wow! i really didn't expect to get such a response from these!
to everyone who replied to the last post, my deepest thanks. i've been having a lot of fun with these. so i put a step by step together, so you guys can see my process. i.was.ink, this is for you, dude.
step 1: pencil drawing. i pumped up the contrast so you ca n see it, but its really alot lighter than this:

step 2: colored pencil to refine the forms, and lay in base value:

step 3: i spray fix the colored pencil, then lay on the ink wash.

then, lastly i come back in with a little gouache, and a little more colored pencil, to refine and detail...

so thats it. this probably took about 1-2 hours, and i think he looks a little like tim conway. hope you like, and i encourage you all to try this, as its fun, easy and noncommital.-c36
