felt like drawing today, I used prisma color pencils on rough newsprint.
this is the first portrait I drew in my new studio.
wanted to take a break from the wacom for today.

somehow the proportions in this one look odd. i find it really surprising, it seems like a mistake i would not have thought you'd make.
i'd like to see some portraits of you pulling some odd faces. you must know your face by heart right now, not even really needing a mirror to create a good likeness. so pulling faces, action shots, shouldn't have to be a problem
and you have already proven that you can create a resemblance in the weirdest circumstances

yah i would like to see some real objects being used into the protraits, maybe a spoon on the nose(just joking). Or maybe trying to enclude more of the torso in your piece, very much like a greek bust statue.
I love this piece though, i just came from your last thread and saw the beauty of yoru digital work, but for some reason i can't resist the feeling you bring with traditional.
i agree with some of the proportions being a bit off but they look like they were ment to be stylistic, like the very square jaw. What does bother me though is the neck doesn't appear to be finshed in my eye, maybe rushed.
Still like i said before the piece is beautiful.
ps: love the nose.

ah
PPS: Could you tell me your stance on posts like the one i did above? Do you want to have critism or do you just like to post your art and get 'praise'(which i think is perfectly fine).
Being that it's your actual face I could understand people giving crits to be a bit more personal then a painting/drawing of a leaf, frog, or... whatever.

the eye area makes me wanna cry... it's so perfect, so living!
peeps... get rid of those ideas about twisted anatomy and look at the damned eyes!
re critics/selfportraits: i think andrew is intelligent enough to take the critics for the artwork and not for his face.

yep, the eyes are great, its nice to see something in traditional media from the SPOD master :)
about the anatomy being off: does anyone here actually know android outside of these forums? i mean, have you seen his real face? how can you make judgements on the prportions if you dont know what he really looks like? just a thought...

Nice to see some traditional stuff. :)
Just curious about your new studio. Are you renting a place or did you build it? Hows the size?
We converted a small portion of our house into a studio for me to use. Its really quite small. Maybe 8x8x8 feet, eheh. But its all I really need. I have my drafting table in there, my books, and music. Its nice to have a place of relative isolation.

youve really inspired me andrew. i do a portrait a day now... i am not so good yet, but i just wanted to say thanks for being consistant, it keeps me at it too! i really have improved and think that this is a really great excersise! since i have painter but have never tried i decided to use it on my spod's so that i can learn the program while i am practicing.... again, thanks!
b.t.w. i would be really interested in seeing a real picture of yourself, in the interest of critique. it would be neat to see what you really look like. since all of your spod's look very similiar i am sure it is a great likeness but still.....

i luv your line quality andrew, very nice. my work space is my bedroom, since i still have to rent with roomates. but ive got my computer, scanner and desk right next to my drawing table and bookcase. i couldn't even begin to fathom how many hours i've logged at that table!:)

Wow contriversary, I willl admit that this pick was a bit idealized.I was at my new studio. big open room floor, hardwood floors lots of natural light, all I had in the room was an easel, my supppleis and the mirror I was standing up and I felt very strong and confident, my life drawing class was canceled that night so I needed my traditional fix, Im like a junkie when it comes to life drawing, i start ahaking and fidigiting if my hands are idle.
as far as the feedback issue, I want you to use these boards to express whatever you want, any feedback you have is encouraged. I love reading your opinions no matter what they are, actually the only thing I dont like reading is the occasional comparison to a celebrity or pop star , that does absolutly nothing for me, except make me think of that person every time I look at the portrait, yuck!
If you guys see my stuff and are noticing common mistakes i might be overlooking I would hope you would let me know, trust me I dont bruise easily. I dont make a habit of ever going back to a self portrait becuase my face changes every moment, but I will always take your words with me to the next portrait.
Benzo- dont bring the wacom to the models, bring the models to the wacom, bive Bob all my light.
thanks everyone
