Everyone who i've shown the pictures to asks me that.
The book was some stupid book no one should ever have heard of:
Can Poetry Matter?
it died for a good cause though i'd say

The close up-s with the words in clear focus are my favourites..

i like the one where the fire "comes through" the page in close-up the most. looks almost surreal...
but seeing books burn kind of hurts me physically. sorry, can't help it... :)
great photos, though.

There are some awesome pictures! Can you give some more details about your settings?
(Tripod?, underlay?)
Thanks :)

I think I like the first set of images, where the book is still reconizable as such, when it is still something coherent struggling to maintain its unity in spite of overwhelming odds. Besides, the regular curvature of the pages is a nice contrast to the impredictible and irregular curves of the flames.
(You should have told us it was something terribly important, like a unique 13th century manuscript, rather than an old and rather dull book - just to keep us on the edge of our seats)
On the whole, these pictures are a masterful illlustration of the Farenheit 451, since they make us sympathise with the book being destroyed AND, by focusing on the beauty of the show, gives us an insight into the minds of the book executioners and makes us think - "Wow, this is so beautiful... I'd like to see that again!" And have another book burned at the stake...
Great job! Yeah, if you remember, do give us some technical information (I was thinking about f-stop and shutter speed. I don't know, Insane, are we talking about the same things here?)

This one is my absolute favourite of the set, great shot.
Fire4.jpg - stunning shot aswell, love the lightning.
Interesting stuff, we should have more dynamic and original photos like these around here!
I take it the english teacher liked the photos aswell?? ;)

I didnt use a tripod, and im not sure what you mean when you say underlay. I didnt use any tricks to achieve these photos - i just burnt a book. As for my F-stops and shutter speeds im not sure - i'd have to check each photo (i mostly leave my camera on its auto settings and let it fiddle with all of that, unless i need to for low lighting or whatnot)
Morbid:
thats the photo most people have said is their favourite from the bunch, and fire 4 was the other one that many liked heh.
I gave my presentation today and my english teacher did really like them.
Thanks for your nice comments about my photos Morbid! and everyone else too! Its very nice to get positive feedback about a photo =)

i just picked up the book, and burnt it
i had ideas about the photographs i was going to take before hand - like for example i tore a bunch of pages out and burned them separately with a fire in the bacground - then threw the book in and started shooting
there was no meaning behind it for me - i wasnt trying to symbolise my rebelliousnes sor anything. I just wanted some cool pictures (or hot pictures)

This is an absolutely amazing series of photos. Very rarely do I see pictures of slow, yet intense flames in such clarity. A macro lense just went on my Christmas list. Very inspiring.

Hey, nice photos!
I love the last ones, where you can see (read) the words, and some of the words describe aggresive emotions (i think), which adds to it all, makes it very subtle but strong.

Now we are are book burning are we? Where did you say you were from? Seriously though these are great images and those close ups are beautiful and brilliant looking. There's a lot going on there; the intesity of the colors, the texture of the page and the clarity of the letters. It all makes for a great image.

This is a great study, and well produced. But I feel there are too many of them...and detracts from the strong important pics.
Which for me, are 12, 8, and 1. It would be better presenting these as 4 together next to each other..so use 1, 3, 8 and 12[the last one] on a long black border from left to right.
Maybe like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v648/marty_dude/Firecols.jpg
Or something like that, with or without the word fire, still looks refined, simple and gets the point across without any other bad images distracting the pics.
or just use picture number 12, the last one, as this is definitely the strongest and gives most impact.
Good stuff
