Hi everyone. When I was younger, I used to be addicted to Music production. And made myself a cute little album. If you fancy a listen:

Pretty cool stuff. What did you produce them in?
There's a nice variety of sounds and styles you've used in those. My favourite is probably Jade Warrior.
I'm impressed with the overall sound quality, the levels and mastering seem expertly done, and you seem to have used reverb and stuff to give it all a lot of depth, which I like. :)

However, my main crit (and something which always seems to happen on nearly all tracks of this style) is that there's not actually much "music" going on. You've got a rhythm, you've got a pattern of chords and a melody, and one or another is always going on in the background. For example, there might be the same chord pattern all the way through the track, and all you're doing is changing what's in front of it (the melody) or behind it (the drum beat) ... basically just switching on and off different layers of sound, but the overall thing isn't changing at all. I think you'd generate more interest if you actually had some sections where the entire basis of the piece changes.

I'd be interested to hear you compose something more classical, have you ever tried making a piece using, say, only string instruments? It's good fun, and can make some really sweet sounding pieces where you're free to play around without being tied down to a particular rhythm and chord progression.

So yeah, IMHO this stuff is all "technically" very accomplished, and in fact one of the better examples of this type of music (don't wanna pigeonhole it, I'm terrible at putting things in specific genres anyway), but as far as actual musical interest goes, it's somewhat lacking. Good background music, I'd say.

Know what I mean?

I'd like to hear more if you get round to doing more, just go a little crazier and really explore the actual music further. :)

Btw, you've spelt it "1 Mile Verical" on your site... :P

:uzi: *me* :uzi2:

Thanks for that MoP. I appreiciate it. No matter how many times I checked the spelling, how the hell did i miss that.

Thanks for your crit. It was very correct. I currently live with two music technology students, and they said the exact same. I imagine my music skills as an equivalent to my present character design skills. Trying to get the technical bit bang on, (anatomy and actual costume design), Whilst not including the emotional overtone that every piece of art should have, (gesture and drama).

Some of the work my music housemate has shown me, has really (i mean really) opened my eyes. And is in total accordance to what you are saying about truly experimenting with music. The scales, keys, time sigs, totally warped providing an incredible piece of music that makes pop look like a 5 year old produced it.

But yeah, any new tracks i find time to finish, i'll post em up.

Thanks again man :)

Hell yeah, if you're living with music tech students, that's an eye-opener. A friend of mine is studying jazz guitar at Leeds College of Music, and some of the stuff he comes up with (and his teachers, of course) is just astonishing.

And yeah, to be honest when I listen to stuff by "pro" DJs and producers (mainly the dance/trance folks), for the most part it really isn't all that deep or complex... your stuff sounds better than many actual pro tracks I've heard on the radio or on TV. Then again I tend to like my music complex and challenging (seek out a band called Planet X, you'll see what I mean, heh). :)

Sometimes I wonder how some of those pro guys got famous - must be through industry contacts or something, because their music is really no better than stuff I can download from the internet made by people in their bedroom - weird, huh?

Keep on rockin'! :)

Thanks man. I totally agree about "pro" dance producers, and also the way the "nu-breed" of rock is going. I've really dissected dance tunes in the past, and its amazing just how little they actually put in at times. So yeah, I think its a bit of a culprit of "who you know" over "what you know".

But its definitley grand to see a music lover with some real apprieciation of music as an art, and not a corporate advert.

I'm gettin hold of some Planet X right now. You like Estradsphere MoP?

Estradasphere is one funky band. I'd suggest taking a listen if you ever have the chance.

Dunno if this counts as gravedigging but your stuff is fantastic. I'm getting this Hybrid/Frontline Assembly/BT/deepsky vibe and it's really good. Every song is emminently listenable and the large and small scale melodies are very satisfying in distinct contrast to the vast majority of trance/breaks put out.

BTW saw you in imaginefx, congrats :D
