God... to many to list...
my very favorite band is a band called Avalon Land, they are from the city I live in Mar del Plata, they are a celtic folk band.

Some bands that I like a lot are

The Sisters of Mercy
Faith and the Muse
Cecil Taylor
Merzbow
Rhapsody
Nightwish
Rammstein
Dead Can Dance
Die Toten Hosen

Still, I think the kind of music that I like best is folk music from different world regions, experimental, jazz (free jazz/avant garde mostly) classical (chamber/symphony mostly), and movie scores. Love movie scores.

I've got another friend who says the same, though he can never give any better explanation. strangely he does like the Jam though... Dunno, for me I can only listen to the Misfits so many hundred times, but London Calling just keeps getting better. Big into the LA stuff too (Circle Jerks, Plugz, X, etc.)

Blue Valentine is great, its one of the craziest things I've ever heard

have you heard much else Tom Waits? It's totally bland alongside just about every single other album in my opinion. Falls way short of Frank's Wild Years, Swordfish Trombones, Rain Dogs, Blood Money, Bone Machine, Alice, Nighthawks at the Diner, and Small Change at any rate, which are my favorites. Of all the rest, I still feel it's sub-par.

Swordfish Trombones is probably the craziest for me, but I haven't heard half of those albums, so my opinion is limited : P

Swordfish Trombones is probably the craziest for me

that was the album where he started moving away from blues and piano singer type music and started getting further out. You think that's crazy, you should hear some of his stuff from the past 10 years. It can get really strange

thirdeye: I sure do! Usually the one in my avatar image, in fact :)
I'd recommend you check out Coheed & Cambria, it's a nice blend of musical styles that I can't really put in one genre... the closest I can get is if you imagine The Mars Volta were playing progressive-punk-pop-rock? Like I say, hard to classify :P
Also for some fancy fretwork (and insane ideas) you can't beat Mattias Eklundh.

yeah thirdeye, coheed is a must. Think Pink Floyd, but if they were a modern day band.

Hey GunTrouver, Neutral Milk Hotel is great. "Semen stains the mountaintops" haha! Some wacked out lyrics.

Actually I'm a huge TMV fan and I've heard about C&C being similar - but I got their CD "in keeping secrets ..." only recently and I listened to it like 2 or 3 times. Definitely gonna spend some more time with it :) Right now I'm suckin on some old school Van Halen stuff - "1984" LP :)
