OMG! Pyramid Head! The nurses! Dahlia! PYRAMID HEAD!!! Chainlink fences! Blood on the walls. They even have the soundtrack, the snowy town, the SIREN!!

I have not been this excited about a movie in years. In fact, I haven't been excited this much about anything in years. I'm just peeing my pants at how accurately they're recreating the atmosphere of the game.

This is my favorite game series ever created and look at it!! I can't wait! I'm gonna explode!

Man, this looks great, and I have a lot of Respect for Christof Gans, the director. Also, the writers are pretty darn good. HOpefully itll be 15 or 18 rating, I remember the first time i played SH on the PS. The intro with the music was one of the most beautiful amd emotional intros to a game.

WOOT WOOT!

was looking foreward to the pyramid heads and stuff. now its just a neofeminst scary movie.blah.
they should be running around in tight skirts and wet t-shirts.
seems like it anyways by the look of it.

Hahhha! Isn't he the worst director ever!? Me and my husband must bring up his name in a conversation every other day, just to warn people about his movies. I can't even believe how much he's crapped all over the style and enviroments of Bloodrayne. She had such an awesome outfit in the games and in the movie, it looks like she's wearing loose Dockers pants in the movie. WTF!

That's why I'm so excited about Silent Hill. That first scene in the trailer is almost identical to the opening scene in the game, and like Interceptor said, the music is the game's too. So badass!

my prediction: this movies is gonna simply suck. The trailer makes it out to be much more surreal than it truly is, and conveniently hides any hint of cheesy dialogue and story. the fact that the main character is now a woman, with a husband, rather than a single father (whos wife was dead already if I remember the game correctly) reeks vaguely of the standardised "get woman to the theaters" hollywood love story. Another movie dissapointment Im sure. just my prediction.......

Yeah. This trailer looks pretty Awesome. I really hope it's a good film. Kinda Blowz they had to switch the story to another battling warrior woman to fit the feminazi times.

Here's to hoping...(that it's good)

Can't wait for this movie!
I just found this out, and am not sure if it has any truth to it. The soundtrack is being composed by Jeff Danna (Resident Evil: Apocalypse) and not by Akira Yamaoka (the guy who's developed the music & sound for all the SH games)! I'm somewhat dissapointed and I hope it doesn't take away any of the SH mood. That would suck. [More] (http://orangeloungeradio.com/phpnuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=499)

Updated info on the movie can be seen here (http://www.upcominghorrormovies.com/movies/silenthill.php). As well. I hope this is a hit, otherwise I'd just play the games and be content with them. :D

If the games are scarier than this movie, they've failed miserably. I hope they don't ruin one of my all time favorite games. (Can't wait till part 5)

Kinda Blowz they had to switch the story to another battling warrior woman to fit the feminazi times.

Call me an ass for agreeing with this, but this was my first impression when I saw the trailer. Hopefully her character makes sense and is realistic enough to help bring life to the movie. And hopefully they rely on "Silent Hill" scare technqiues rather than and becoming another "The Ring" rip off.

Even though they switched the main character to a chick, I recognized it as Silent Hill two seconds into the trailer. Then I actually squealed. I'm so freakin' excited. Silent Hill is one of my favorite PS games ever. And I don't know about you guys but, I thought the trailer caught the creepy hospital atmosphere perfectly. The nurses looked pretty messed up. I'm still iffy on why they felt the need to make the main character a woman though. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Certainly looks creepier than the resident evil movies.

Btw, which of the Silent Hill series would you guys recommend? I've tried The Room, and played it until I was encountering those floating things from the wall in the train station, but didn't find it fun (nor creepy).

I'll have to agree with him, but, on the other hand maybe it adds a little depth to the whole feel --nothing like matternal instinct, right(the shit she must be feeling when losing her child)-- of the movie, and I guess chicks can also identify with her (that's why I think it's another semi-chick-flick).

Anyways looking forward to this one, I've played the first SH and it creeped me out(I was youg back then, didn't know the boogeyman existed:P), hope they didn't fuck up the feeling.
I predict another dvd on my shelf anyway, and hope 4 the best:yayca:

Sooner or later there's gonna be someone in this thread saying something like "stop whining about the main character being a woman". Well, i'll whine anyway. I mean, seriously, it was ok in Alien but it's gotten so blown out of proportion since then, there mere idea reeks of hollywood.
Does that face really inspire any kind of empathy in a horror movie? I doubt she gets any serious scratches through the whole thing, let alone get her throat ripped out (though if she did...).

JERI: I would reccomend either the original Silent Hill or Silent Hill 3. I've never played Silent Hill 2 all the way through, but what I did play was pretty fun and seeing the Pyramid Head was worth it. Silent Hill (original) was very fun, but the graphics are PSX so you might not like that.

I finished all of Silent Hill 3 and felt sick the whole time through it. So I guess that counts for something - oh and I played it when no one is home at night by the graveyard where I live - I don't really want to play Silent Hill 3 ever again because of this. Haha

If you like action and zombies, check out Resident Evil 4. It's for PS2 and GameCube and it's decent. I enjoy unloading clips from my shotgun/pistol/etc on hoards of zombies. There's tons to do in this game.

Hey Jeri

Silent Hill is one of those games that if you don't mind some of the game play issues with the battle system, and some of the puzzels that can be a bit testing, you'll enjoy it. The story can get confusing at times as well. If you get past the graphics, try playing the first one, but only do it at night (1 or 2 in the moring), with the lights off and the stereo high, and alone. You will shit your pants. In fact play them all like this, you get the best experience that way. Play in the day time with a few friends over, and it won't nearly have the same effect. I guarentee at some point you will look over your shoulders to see who's lurking in the dark. Silent Hill 3 has some incredibly freeky moments. Part two was alright.

JERI
February 11th, 2006, 06:54 PM
Yeah I've played RE4 and clocked it - kick arse game.

Thanks. Guess I'll try Silent Hill first before trying 3. Will need to find a place that still has it though.

I still believe that jacobs ladder is about as Silent hill as you can get with a film. This new idea of a movie based directly from teh game is not very thrilling to me, and though i am interetid, it only seems to market value, rather than an interest in the obscure, eldritch and terrifying. This is a block buster wanna be, for all thiose video game fans out there. How droll, and in a sad way.

Well see what comes of it...

I watched the trailer again this evening and I have to say I'm curious. I only played a little of the first one, but they seemed to have captured the look I remember. I agree I would have left the main character as a man, be a change of pace for once. But people find women being terrorized more scary. I think it may have to do with men being subconsciously protective of women ( though I could be completely wrong...who know's).

I was confused about Mort's post above. He was mad because they didn't include the pyramid heads, though magicgoo specifically mentioned them being in the trailer. I assume he is talking about the guy with the long cone like head toward the end of the trailer. So what's the deal with these guys?

it will be one big frustrution.

First of all it was a completely different feeling watching it than playing the game , cuz while playing YOU are the one who sees the blood on fances, crawling fetuses and experience the whole stuff.. In movie you will see the case from someone other's perspective and it will make you feel that you are far away from the atmosphere that you felt while playing the game. Thats a fact.

other than that, only changing Harry with a woman tells us that film makers didn't understand one bit of the philosophical questioning in the first game about the father-child-love dilemma, so they blown it. It means they never played the game as i played, didnt question the meanings lay below the scenario. They couldnt understand what a silent hill is.. too bad

it will be no more than another hoolywood blockbuster trial

or i'm too fanatic, cuz i obssesively think that silent hill is the second best game ever :)

Of coarse it will, it's a movie, not a game.

In movie you will see the case from someone other's perspective and it will make you feel that you are far away from the atmosphere that you felt while playing the game. Thats a fact.
Uhh, the game is 3rd Person view, not first person. Also every Silent Hill game isn't "YOU", it's a different character. So this movie should fit right into the game.

other than that, only changing Harry with a woman tells us that film makers didn't understand one bit of the philosophical questioning in the first game about the father-child-love dilemma, so they blown it.
Don't be so quick to judge. I agree about the "father-child-love delemma", but who knows if it's bad or not. Besides, think of a world where the Silent Hill movie came out before the game. We'd be moaning and groaning about how sucky the games were because of whatever.

JERI: I haven't "clocked it" with RE4 yet. I thought I was at the end, but it's such a bigger game than I thought and I love it!

CRØW: Yes, that's the guy in the trailer. Hehe, the Pyramid Head (PH). Well, he's only one guy and if you play Silent Hill 2 you will see him appear within about 30 to an hour of the game. Here (http://silenthillforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=8247&highlight=pyramid+head) is a little theory on how PH was born. I enjoy PH because he's just freakin cool!

Azeira: I have Jacob's Ladder and it freaked me out until the ending. Whenever I watch it I pretend it's a Silent Hill game. Hehe, it's so much like Silent Hill 3 it's scary!

I am skeptical, but I have my hopes up since I am a big fan of Silent Hill. I'll watch it and make my judgement then. I'm just scared because VG movies have a reputation of sucking with the only respectable movie being the first Mortal Komabt (IMO). That an current horror movies suck as well.

I agree... it would have been super fun to work on this.

Not many people know about the game where i live... and my friend, Cold, said that when he yelled out in excitement during the trailer no one knew what he was talking about. I believe the gaming community is either in their houses playing games or not out at the normal communal areas.

I got so excited while watching the trailer, I yelled out, "PYRAMID HEAD!" when I saw him, and no one knew what I was talking about. HAHAAA

Women are more vulnerable, more easily scared, and hotter than guys... Sorry ladies if I'm stereotyping, but that has been my experience. The only problem I have with it is that it's not true to the original story and Holly Wood is trying to pull some shit off to sell more tickets. This game had alot of good and bad. On the bad, I'd say it's a bit too SH3 "preachy" for me. That and the fact that characters have bizarre motivations to do some things. And they overused the game tunes a bit.

The good, is that the monsters were great, I though. And the enviros were pretty boss. And Pyramid Head is an ANIMAL.

That's not a sword, Matt. That's the Great Knife. Which you get to lug around in game #2. Can't run with it, but it's the most powerful and slow weapon ever.

Anyhoo, I absolutely loved every second of the movie. It exceeded my expectations and I loved the soundtrack of all of the games (doing the song from game 4 for the girlie t-dome entry), so I loved the use of it in the movie.

Finally saw Silent Hill, and I loved it!

Of course, some bad aspects: the acting with certain characters in certain scenes were kind of weak. And a few the characters motives for doing certain things in the film were a bit weird. But over all not too bothersome.

Most definitly the best videogame to movie, movie! And one of the best horry flicks to me. The look of it, and the creatures were great. And for some reason I really like that female cop! I think she used to be on Picket Fences.
