Well, I'm another noob on the site. I haven't touched pencil, pastel, paper or photoshop since late 2003. I found this site recently and got really pumped about drawing again.
**Edit for info: I'm 21, self taught, use prismacolor pencils, chalk pastels, ps7/tablet(learning), some sculpture, am a huge fan of realism despite a love for comic/lineart, love working from life and referencing my own photos.**
Here's an unfinished color pencil drawing from 03. I took the pic and printed it out for ref. It's still not done, haven't touched it since then.

Sweet sruff, work on your lines, try to do that Guile or Blanka, over and over with the least amount of lines.
(awesome Blanka, seriously google Blanka, no one can draw him)

Taj - Thanks dude, I'll try that. If I were sketching on paper I think I'd have used my eraser more but with the wacom, I keep forgetting there is one on the pen hehe. I googled blanka and man you weren't kidding, that stuff was sad.
Anymale- Thanks man. I had longer hair on Guile but it made his body look smaller and less threatening. I kinda like it shorter though. It doesn't look like other versions too much.
Asoir ans Seets - I just got burned out on it. I had just graduated h/s and my senior year was spent pumping out work for an application to ringling. I got accepted for 02, but man that is one expensive school for a third world immigrant so I couldn't go. It was a boost though, knowing that I had what it took. I haven't given up, just been on a long hiatus and I'm ready to draw again. Wow, that's a long reply. Hope I didn't put you to sleep.

Diego- thank you. I really enjoyed seeing your sketchbook. Your hand sketches make me want to go back and draw more.
InkMonkey- I never thought I could be so inspired from a message board, never. Thanks for the welcome.
Thank you katsgod.
Here's a couple from today.
Tried to get some sense of energy in this. Not too sure it shows.

No idea why I drew a pizarro guy here just randomly sketching.
http://home.comcast.net/~abibula1/incan.jpg
This is the only self portrait I've done. No scanner at the moment, so I took a photo. I sat in my chair for 3-4hrs and angled two mirrors together so I didn't have to move my head, just my eyes(hope that makes sense). That's why my eyes aren't staring back at me, because I'm looking at a reversed image in a second mirror. It's from April 2003 and "surprisingly" also unfinished. My instructor loved it because it showed the process. At the time I had gotten used to taking photos and drawing them enlarged and w/o and lightboxing, cheating or anything. It was pleasantly challenging to work from life for a change. Now I prefer to draw from life. Well, here's my mug. Laugh away :uzi2: hehehe

Forgot to mention, drawn with prismacolor pencils.

Felt the urge to get the comic stuff out of my system. I should be good for a while now. Typical cliche comic stuff. All drawn from memory/imagination, no ref.

Been a few days since I've drawn. I've been taking care of my pops in the hospital since Sunday. He's ok now. Don't start smoking:nohope: , and if you are I hope you're smart enough to stop.
Big-Dave - No worries man. Thanks for the feedback.
Kresh - Thanks man, just look below.
Saise - Thank you. I dunno about fantastic but if you say so, hehehe
fooxoo - Thanks for checking it out.
Here's some more work. A vine charcoal sketch from class and some pencil drawings. I hate taking pics of them, but my scanner is only so big.
This is a self portrait in prismacolor pencils. Only blue and white used. Roughly an hour staring at the mirror.
http://home.comcast.net/~abibula1/blue-me.jpgl
This was from a figure drawing class. The model was a german dude, 6'6" about 55 yrs old and dressed in costume. He liked my take on his wrinkles.

Noticed I really don't draw creatures ever and I think the suckage shows. Sometimes I sketch clean and sometimes it turns out like this. Another vine charcoal drawing of my instructor. Looks like Colonel Sanders doesn't he? Also did a quick Ah-nold study.

Not much time today, but I scribbled a little. I'm noticing my work is extremely sketchy. I know what I see but I don't know if you are seeing the same thing, or the scratchy lines are throwing you off. I'm gonna really try to reduce the amount of lines I throw down. Gotta do more life drawing too.
These were not ref'd, just practicing from memory.

My only advice is that you should maybe add some color to your sketches from time to time.

Condottiere - Thanks dude. I'm working on it right now.
Maruchan - Glad you like em. I looked at your art. Really enjoyed the spiderman sketches.
Panda89 - Thanks, I'll try.
I'm going to focus more on life drawing and finding a balance between comic stuff and realism. I don't suppose I am a concept artist because my imagination is just not there yet. This site has been a huge inspiration and motivator though. I should be drawing instead of typing then huh. Just for the sake of looking at something other than text here's a pic shot when I was touring the Ringling Museum in Sarasota about 4 years ago. Stunning architecture and scenery, if you can you should visit.

Wow, that building looks pretty funky, hehe.
Cool sketches, MBM. I must say, I've never seen anyone use coloured pencils the way you do. They have a certain, profound feel about them and a quality which makes it feel more like a painting.
Your SP is inspirational. I really like the use of strokes and its preciseness(sp?).
Keep posting~ And thank you for posting in my SB. =)

Man you're buff. I want some bigger delts myself but those weights are just too heavy... As for your drawings, I really like them. I imagine all that working out helped cement human anatomy in your mind, and it shows in your drawings. I think tho, as you're already aware, that your line quality need some improvement. Try to make a statement with each line, draw your lines with confidence and make it right from the start to avoid the scribbliness you're stuck with now. Thats alot harder than it sounds tho, I got huge problems with line quality myself and it seems the only way to get better is practice. So just keep on drawing, and keep on updating this sketchbook.

Finally got a new sketchpad to draw in. It's good to draw on real paper for a change. It's been a long long time. The wacom is no contest to pencil for drawing with that certain feel. Been a while since last update, too much studying. I'm so rusty and it shows but I'm gonna draw my ass off every spare chance I get.
Quicksilver - You're welcome, and thanks for posting in mine:wink: I use a method called burnishing. Just pressing really hard to blend colors, nothing fancy
Boogie - Good advice, which I put to use. Gonna take some time, but I can clean up.
Death - thanks dude, I'll try
The first two are my first pencil sketches in the new book. I like the control of my pencils more now. I think I'll use the tablet mostly for coloring from now. My imagination is somewhat nonexistant but maybe it'll come back to me as I go. The last two are just practicing blending in ps7. Pics taken with my cam, the scanner is in a box somewhere. **edit: replaced now with scanned pics**

I broke out the prismacolors tonight. I'm even more rusty with the colors than I thought. It's ref'd from a pic of my favorite brunette Aria Giovanni. The drawing isn't super accurate to the photo being that all I wanted to do was try the colors out. They also are not accurate lol. The biggest pic is scanned and the split one is a photo so that explains the color difference there

hey,
you got some really cool character sketches in here. Also, I think your hand sketches are really excellent. Did you do them in photoshop or painter or something? Are they your hands from life or imagination? I like some of them a lot. by they way, cool self portrait too. big fan of the blue color you used. I find self portraits difficult because I am not used to drawing from a mirror and it feels ackward. Well done.
Take it easy!

Thanks for looking at my stuff incolorinred. The hands were done in ps7, either from memory or my own hands. The ones that look more comic style are the ones from imagination. I've been drawing more in my sketchbook lately though, I like it more. Only thing is I don't have any good lead, just dollar store pencils.
This is a little doodle, no idea in mind at all. Big face is kinda off around the eyebrow/eye area just enough to make me want to erase it.

You draw really well, love the loose underdrawing. I see a hint of a comic book artist in your drawings, but I think you've fused it nicely with your classical skills as an artist. BTW, you should try dry pastels sometime. Try painting too :teeth:. You can learn alot more about color by varying how you mix and apply it. Great sketches, keep it up bra' :).

Hey there MrBob! I haven't seen your stuff for awhile, so I thought I'd pop in and refresh myself.
I absolutely love your sketches, I admire your way with the male form in particular. Men are hard for me, I need to start drawing them more. = ) Thanks for the inspiration.
Your lines are so expressive and interesting. That wolf-like creature thing kicks ass!
Anyway, thanks for sharing, I enjoyed looking.

mr bob-
here's a quick crit. You need to wean yourself of the hesistant 'hairy' outlines on your figures. It kills the dynamic and doesn't add anything to the silhouette or form. Either draw your lines with more confidence (damn the torpedoes! etc) or use the sketchyness inside the figure to describe mass and form. Lock up the pencils and erasers and get some ballpoint pens!
my two cents

I disagree. His sketchiness is a matter of him trying to find the right line. In fact, I would encourage Mr.BobMarley to be even more gestural. Confidently laying down a thick bold outline is a mistake that young artists commonly make. A smart artist outlines and details after the gesture has been made. Keep doin' what you're doin dude :).

Bad Brownie -Hey long time no see Brownie! You gotta start a book here, I'd love to see more of your work.
Deselect Thanks man! That portrait is one I'm most satisfied with.
seba_boi Hehe, glad you like em man. I'd say Street Fighter is one of the few things from when I was little that I still have a soft spot for, Transformers too.
SprayNation and Artkitty - First thanks so much for your insight, it really does help. I have to say I agree with both of you. I'm my toughest critic and I know the hairy lines take away from the form, but I also know for sure that I'm never satisfied with the first line I lay down. I tried and I can't remember one time that I was ever able to do that. A compromise would be to use lighter lead so the scribbles aren't so dominant, and like Spray said I'm looking for the right line so I won't completely do away with the lines. Thank you both, I'm really glad you pointed out what you did. I know my work will improve.
Here's another older work, I didn't want to reply w/o antything to show. Been studying for 3 days straight, but I should have sketch time this weekend.
The pencils I use are prismas and they get this glazed look(from the wax I think)and after some time and it reflects light. I couldn't scan this so it had to be a photo and it's light in areas where it should be darker. It's mostly all there though. It's referenced from a photo I took.
http://home.comcast.net/~abibula1/kellysmall.jpg
HIGH RES FULL DRAWING (http://home.comcast.net/~abibula1/kellybig.jpg) Same as above with but way bigger for detail, have a look.
I changed a few things mostly in the face and body proportions. I should fade or blur those diamonds in a bit huh.

hahaha like the funny pics, guy. Your sf stuff is great. I'm a big fan of SF myself.
The prismacolor pic is very well done. The hard edge on the shadow over her breast is kind of soft in your rendition but I know its hard to get that with prismacolor.
Your sketches has alot of energy to them. I think that's dhalsim kicking ken in the back. Good stuff haha.

hey man! Thankls for the comment on my sketchg book! I love your pencil cryaon work very ncie there! For your coloring try out the coloring book http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=732673#post732673 Just try and do one every day! Dont do it for people but your rself they really help out! Allso when doing color use the hsb slider when doing work it really helps to keep the value in sort! Wjen I paint i try and keep the value for shadows below 20% and then the light any where betwwen 20% and 90% but not passing that! And keep the rest for highlights! But add the highlights at the very end,,,,, If this makes no sence it's because i am a bit drunk! Tell me and ill redo it when i am sober... Keep sketching mate...
MrBobMarley
February 5th, 2006, 07:16 PM
Seth - Drunk or not that link is now bookmarked, thanks dude!
Master 25 days -Thanks for looking man. I remember thinking I went over that shadow too much with the light cream now that you mention it.
New sketch, two decent looking ones at the bottom are from ref (like you couldn't tell). I really hate that face in the middle, that might be why she has a black eye. Other two are the 2nd and 3rd digital drawing/painting I've done, unfinished at that(probably forever). The lack of experience here shows.
http://home.comcast.net/~abibula1/ariaheelsmall.jpg
http://home.comcast.net/~abibula1/blendedforweb.jpg
It started out as a comic sketch, then I found a ref that matched the angle and took it from there.
http://home.comcast.net/~abibula1/forweb6.jpg
This was my feeble attempt at a fantasy/landscape thing. It's got tons of issues that I got tired of messing with. Had to ref. her right hand and the bg. I might give this another go one day.

The first pic from ref has some nice rendering on the hair but a bit too much imo. it stands out from the face but I can see that you're not done. Fantasy pic looks fannnntastic but make your canvas bigger so her head isn't cut off. Can't wait to see it finished!

Hey dude, your SB is lookin great! You seem to have quite the touch for propotions, and you prismas kick ass! What do you use for fleshtones? Im trying them out now, I use Deco Pink, Salmon pink, Magenta to darken, Deco orange yellow ocra. Are there ones better suited?
You creatures are shaping up too, just a few hundred more, an you be kickin ass in that departement too! I was gonna tell you to watch you lines, but you seem to have them cleared up more on these last updates, so I guess youre aware of that!

Nice woman sketches man! Haha! Fuck reading through my last post! to funny! Yeah it's a wicked thread also theres another one in the photoshop section about color and value! Oh also check out this http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=53517 The peer project fondation acticities! Kicks ass! It's all about lighting, color- Lots of usefull links also. Try and keep the value to a shadow, halftone, and highlights! Keep it simple.

seth1 - Thanks seth! Bookmarked it already. Color theory is something I must learn. Drawing women is too much fun. Thanks again dude.:teeth:
timpaatkins - More like a few thousand million more lol. I started with the basic 24 pack in highschool cause it was cheap and I had to make do. I've used the same basic colors since: peach(base), white/cream/light peach(highlights), dark umber/dark brown/light brown/sienna brown/goldenrod(for mid/dark tones) and various pinks, and yellows for variety. I try to limit using black because it's so predominant. I'm no guru so use at own risk hehe. Thanks for looking dude!:yayca:
Master 25 Days - since middle school, almost every one ends up a pylocke, dunno why:dur: . Good eye on the hair, I shoulda laid a bg down first. You also share one of my gripes with the elf pic hehe. Thanks dude.
frog and *BAM* - Thanks dude, I'm trying:teeth:
stew - appreciate it man!
SpaceAce - Yea, I still want to do a piece with some Incan(?) stuff in it. Awesome is about 10,000 leagues ahead of me, but I'll take it hehehe :P
Now, I made some sketch time today. First is from reference. Second was inspired by all the orc/urukhai looking things plastered all over this board. Mine was a quickie and it doesn't show the grit it should. I am pleased with the female though, slowly getting there. Is it preferred to have the reference pic to look at also? Lemme know.

Good job on the girl. I wouldn't mind seeing the reference...
Orc is hot too. Don't you hate it when you run out of paper like that (or is that a planned composition)?
MrBobMarley
February 6th, 2006, 05:45 PM
Whats up boogie. The orc fit fine, my book is just a hair too big for the scanner. Ain't that a bitch. I put the ref pic in. The chin is too small, forehead slopes too much, one breast is too high, among other things I just noticed. But it's not like it was for commission or anything. I just realized I didn't finish her lips:er:
I also believe it's time to get some nice lead pencils. It's really lacking a range of value that would make it stronger. I drew it with a pos #2 hb. Time for a 6b eh?

I'm loving what I see in your sketchbook man =) You have this great affinity for line, the sketches you've shaded by hatching actually seem to be more successful than when you use the side of the pencil. Although the side of the pencil sketches do have an interesting gritty feel to them =) Keep on updating ;)

Prismastuff is looking good. The pieces from ref. are good, but the faces are your weakest. Do you use some kind of block in method before you add the details? Check out the fredflickstone-tuts in the tutorial section if you haven't already.. he's got some killer stuff to teach :)
That being said, you got some skills! Just keep pumping out those sketches, man!
Thanks for stopping by my SB!

Just got home from a 4 hour test and I am fawking beat. Finally got my real estate sales assoc. license tonight, I'm so pumped. This means no more studying and more draw time.
Kresh - You're right man. I pushed as far as I dared with a shitbox No.2 pencil lol. Buying a quality set soon. Thanks for the crit dude!
seba_boi - Hahaha dude I wish!<3 Nah she's an adult erotica/softcore model. I draw her a lot cause she's absolutely gorgeous, she's my type. Big tits, small tits... makes no difference with a face like that imo. The girl in the prisma pics, well she's a good friend that liked to pose for me. Do you have a sb? If not start one up!
dCepT - I'm kinda ashamed to say this but, I've never seen that section til now. That guy is awesome, I saved those pics in my tutorial folder. I usually just draw it as I see it, but I want to try his technique. Thanks a ton man, appreciate it!:teeth:

I don't know but drawing Aria Giovanni (I can't believe you seba!)might be too distracting for me if you know what I mean haha. I think the reflected light is a bit too strong. If you squint at the photo the shadows connect. On your rendition, there are some seperations. I find it hard to show highlights on white paper, so see if you can get ahold of some tone paper or shade in the midtone and erase out the highlight, or ptu them in with a whiteout pen.
Dcept already mentioned planning your facial features better.
That orc looks great but I think the face could use a bit more characters and the eye is too close to the brow
btw we're doing a sf challenge. You should check it out and maybe post something up.

Not as much draw time as I would have liked but hey life calls. I picked up a tone paper book and did a little prisma sketch in it (from ref, not finished). The tooth is perfect for the soft lead and I think I' gonna use this paper from now on.
Master - As for drawing Aria, I could care less for the dirtier pics of her. She has a beautiful face, and I like drawing it right now. Could be a problem for other people though lol.
Here's what I got so far.

Man where does the time go. Been working too much. I lost a lot of sketches off my webspace, so I'll probably put em up soon. Was working on this one for a lil bit today. Needs a lot of work, but I kinda dig it so far. Last one is a colored pencil piece that vanished from my last post.
Today is the first time since march I used the tablet:frustrated: Really gotta practice more.
