first of all you got to try.

besides the most important trying barret mentioned: read the manual of your camera. i know that sounds stupid, but most people don't and therefore don't use their camera's full potential.
when shooting a photo you shouldn't have to think about how to disable the autofocus or other technical stuff... :)
