hi guys!
after seeing so many of your great pictures i wanted to post some of mine, cause obviously all of you can give me some hints... :)
it's a collection of old photos and some newer ones, especially those i didn't post for the challenges because i was too late or i decided to pick another.
thanks a lot for making me take more pictures and inspiring me with all your great work -- i kind of forgot how nice it is to walk around with a camera in your pocket and look for pictures...
soooooooo, here we go. looking forward to any comments.

Congratulations, Stine!
I am looking at your pictures and wonder why on earth do you say your pictures are not good enough??? The forest, to name but one is simply lovely in its rythm.
Best of luck!

thanks, khshayathiya (wow, that's a pretty tricky name...:))! really glad you like it. that forest reminded me of a bar code when i first saw it so i cropped it into that format...

Nice pics! Its cool that you experiment with different subjects for the challenge. I think the apple idea was good. With some better lightning and a wider DOF it would be great for the challenge.

I absoulutley loooove the middle seuquence of three picsin a row. Beutiful cropping and color cordination, trully profesional :)
I also love the grass pic with the morning dew i loved the mood.
One suggestion with the picture called amrum 1. It could do with some heavy cropping and becaus of the absence of colors it would look great in b/w. But other wise great stuff i love it, trully original in some pictures.

January 10th, 2006, 03:40 PM
Allow me to contradict you, Il Cielo.
The pale blue of the sky is a perfect match for the grey of the road. The two colours are not in contrast, but rather in harmony. Moreover, the pure blue of the sky creates the fresh, cool atmosphere. A BW image would have kept the shape of things, but would have completely missed the mood of the whole.

I think this will be the fourth time that i vote for you in the photo contest!! I quite like your photographs! Especially the spiderwebs. And the set of three in the middle are very professional and also very good! I cant tell what is in the third picture at that size though. Is it a glass bottle? I also like the two flower pictures above. The first picture is very good too, but something bugs me about the Fly's position - it seems like it wants to be in a third up and to the right, but it isnt.

Hi Stine!
Congrats on some beutiful photos. Im not familiar with the terms regarding feedback to photos so Im just gonna say, great work. The forest pic is stunning! Just love it.

January 11th, 2006, 05:24 AM
first of all thanks for posting your replies!
@ morbid: thanks for your response! i wasn't absolutely happy with the photo mainly because of the things you said: light and dof. so i took my spider-web-on-a-wall-photo for the challenge. but the apple is still here, so maybe i give it another try today... should have taken more time for the pictures but i shot all of the challenge stuff yesterday...
@ il cielo: really happy you like it! found your photos amazing, especially your trip. are you feeling better?
@shadeofdawn: thanks for your votes, man! an amazing portfolio you have there, big as sh*, but worth the download...:) glad you fixed the server-space-thing to show us more.
yes, the blue one is a bottle i sometimes used as a vase. actually the rose was in that bottle til i took it out and shot the blue photo... thanks for your compliments, i really appreciate that!
@kacklon: thanks, that's really nice. and you don't have to use those "terms" you're talking about... :)
so here we go, i tried to change the amrum-photo and this is what came out of it - but first i post the original so you don't have to scroll all the time...:)
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/stine17/amrum01.jpg
and the b/w one:
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/stine17/amrum-bw.jpg
i like it a lot, but xs (we agreed that i could use this short form to prevent my hands from falling off typing your name...:)), you were right it looses some freshness. it changes the atmosphere from holiday-pic to more serious, i think. what do you say, guys?
so next one's the cropped version -
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/stine17/amrum02.jpg
don't know why i didn't think about cropping it in the first place. because as you know i'm all up for cropping (some sort of illness maybe...:)) -- like it better than the original, so thanks for the suggestion, il cielo.
looking forward to any comments!

Well, Stine, the BW looks very good. But, as you say, it is a radical change of mood. If the blue one is uplifting, makes you ant to inhale deeply while enjoying the peaceful vastness, the BW looks like a manifesto against nuclear tests, or a warning against another world war. It is a completely different picture, with a completely different message.
stine
January 11th, 2006, 10:09 AM
yep, strange what a massive impact the colors have on that photo... but i wouldn't see it that negatively in b/w - it seems more timeless or antique, cause nothing on the picture gives you information about the time it was shot. that's what i like about the b/w...
oh, and shade, i totally forgot to say that you're right about the fly-picture. there should be more space towards where it is running, but unfortunately it moved so fast i missed the right frame... :)

Very nice, all of them!
I like the second because is seems to be the opposite of the platonic Immitation theory (that this world is an imperfect immitation of the perfect world of ideas and that art is an imperfect immitation of the world asn, as such, despisable): the real world appeares to be distorting itself on purpose, so as to resemble a digitally distorted image.
I also like the "heading home" - the atmosphere is masterfully grasped.

thanks, shade. wasn't sure what photo to take - i thought the "lightbulb no. 2" didn't show enough "detail", so i went with the other one...

Khshayathiya
January 25th, 2006, 11:34 AM
Indeed, Stine, the Lightbulb no.2 is very good. The more I look at it, the more I like it! 's it psychedelic or am I just prone to getting high on beauty?
I love the idea of an almost imperceptible separation between interior and exterior and the artificial tension between the two. They are, after all, so much alike. I find your picture a marvellous expression of coincidentia oppositorum.
And the filament, naturally, is the romantic genius, wraped in contemplation, superior to all others but isolated because of this very fact.
Zen and romanticism in an artistic symbiosis...
(Yeah, I've just read the dictionary last night and I wanted to show off... I'm sure you haven't thought about this and you might even disagree, but the beauty of art lays in its openness to interpretation)
stine
January 25th, 2006, 11:42 AM
thanks a lot, that's a nice interpretation! i didn't think about the subject this poetically, but i wanted to find something from everyday-life that you normally don't pay attention to or even want to hide but that has a strange beauty when you look close enough.
it was kind of hard finding a clear lightbulb (we only have the frosted ones in our appartement) and i actually was a bit suprised when i saw that the inside of a lightbulb is quite complicated...
i'm thinking about taking the "no.2" - but i don't know whether that's okay with the rules...

I dont like "Former Habitants"
I think its all wrong, there's a lamp on the side that shoulda been cropped out, and the exposure is just too high, it probably would have made a good photo if it was taken from a different angle.
However, i like all the rest.. Especially "Favourite Place To Be" lovely textures. And the whites and blacks really compliment each other there. I would suggest you raise the contrast a bit more to bring out the black.
Otherwise,, good job as usual, i wouldnt expect any less of you Stine :D

This a great set of photographs. A real treat to look through, and I don't think you would have many problems finding work or profession. [Obviously unless you already are?!?]
One thing perhaps to look at in post production is the saturation, and like you have experienced on a few pics; play with composition to get the best feel. Printing [photoshop now adays!] is just as much a part of the creative process as is the seeing and taking of the photograph! So much can be enhanced with this. I would say that 70% of a great photograph comes in the printing, you could turn a very average picture into a beautiful piece purely with post production. And you have such a great foundation to start from.
Try some portraits now...I don't see too many of those ;)
stine
March 13th, 2006, 03:37 AM
thanks a lot, guys. i'm seriously flattered.
great suggestions there marley, nice of you to take the time!
never thought about taking pictures professionally... sometimes i take photo-material for a website i make but that's all. i guess there's a lot missing to a professional level (starting with a good camera).
i normally use photoshop to enhance the picture, but i'm constantly afraid of "overdoing" it. simply want to keep it to a minimum... maybe i should experiment a little more.
and you're right, there are no portraits, but that's not because i wouldn't shoot them but because i'm VERY careful with posting pictures of people in the internet. i would never show a portrait without asking the person for his/her permission and some simply refused and some i couldn't contact. and i'm way too shy to ask strangers whether i could photograph them. but anyway, i should do more of those just for myself... :)
again, thanks a lot, guys, being around here is truly helpful!
cheers,
stine

Great work!! I'm really impressed by your photos.
Marley
March 13th, 2006, 02:54 PM
You don't have that much of a problem photographing adults...but becareful with children...this is a very dodgey area these days.
However, simply use a long lense and catch people in the moment...then either tell them you photographed them for your school project...99.9% of the time they will say "oh that's cool" and probably thank you.
Or just walk upto someone and say I'm doing a school portrait assignment and thought you'd make a great subject...can i take a picof you? Offer to give them a print, and if you use it in a show or gallery tell them to come and see it...friend for life, and more people who see your show.
DON'T be shy...just do it.
When I was doing my degree I went on hols to Florida in the US...and spent my whole time asking people, or just taking pictures of them anyway documentary style. I aksed some many people, police, security gaurds, those guys who swim with shamu...truck drivers [I went to truck stop and just hassled a few guys who had really big trucks...made up some story that sounded cool], even people just sat at the bus stop! I photographed a gaurd called Elmer at Disney World who I tlked to for 2 hours after that and offered to take me to his house to meet his wife and kids. Great guy!
It's difficult I admit, but once you do it and just keep doing it you soon buz off it...you get into conversations with people about alsorts....people introduce you to other people and so-on.
As long as you look confident and know what you are doing...they will love it! And what is the worst they'll say...no! Whatever, onto the next person :)
Use the skills you have with those pics done on here and photograph some people at school...at work...at the garage...the library...just make up a convincing story, be honest about your intentions and you'll be amazed.

zergaloth: thanks! yeah, that frame's fancy, right?! :teeth: actually i think frames make a picture a lot better. it's amazing what great impact they have... so i "blame" it on the frame, cause my camera sucks compared to most of the ones used around here (envyenvy): it's a nikon coolpix 775, 3 1/2 years old, 2 megapixels... :)
ohjay: hi, nice to see you in the photo-section. great sketchbook you have there... thanks a lot, i'm glad you like it here. :)

It's great to see so many photos. I especially liked rotten and forgotten. The textures really pop, and the subtle colors in the image enhance it. Did you play at all with widening the depth of field? you've got the tennis ball in focus, and the stone in front of it. I was wondering what it would look like with a little bit more of the space behind the ball sharp as well.
I'm not sure, but it's something to think about.
Congrats on putting a self portrait up. Those are tough to do. Some questions that I had:
Did you mean to have that beige corner visible in the top left? Is there any significance to the pipes where your left forearm would be? Did you notice how there aren't any arms or legs visible in the composition?
Thanks for posting

hey guys, thanks for having a look! :)
claude - that whole sp thing was a neat idea. getting to know how all of you look is really cool. many empty spaces filled... :)
beiijing - thanks! birthday three weeks after christmas sucks, don't you think?! :)
rhynome - heh, stress and embarassement more than tired i guess...
nii - hey sketchbuddy! nice of you to stop by in my photo thread! as i said i prefer being behing the camera... that challenge thing is here in the photo section a weekly small contest. lot of fun and a great motivation to take pictures. unfortunately my sketchbook kept me quite busy as you know... :) again, thanks for visiting.
zuharroy - thanks for the comments! to the "rotten and forgotten" - unfortunately my camera leaves me very little choices. it's a 4 year old nikon coolpix 775 with 2 megapixels and no manual programs, so i basically have to take what i get. but i plan to use my analog cameras more often again and then i'll surely play more with dof etc. thanks for pointing that out!
the sp is an absolut fluke. i shot it within 2 minutes (didn't even comb my hair what i should've done...) and in front of the only white wall in my room that has no bookshelves on it. so the corner is my door and the pipes are my heating. it's a real snapshot and i only put it on because my photo for the challenge didn't show me at all... sorry if that disappoints you, i promise to do a better one some day... :)
oh, and sorry for not having any new pics... soon!

4, 3, 1 and then 2. The order in which I'd rate them, the fourth being the one I like most.
2 is much the same as 3, but for some reason I just prefer 3. Either it's because it got me humming 'chim chim, cheroo, etc.' or because I just prefer the bricks and the shadow to the glass without a shadow.
Mirror Mirror on the Wall. It just looks really etheral; which, I suppose, is why you took a photo of it.

Interesting shots Stine, I believe this is the most abstract i have seen from you so far.
I like the Glass walls, and the bricks shot the most of the lot.
I think indirect sunset woulda been nicer if there was more of a glow in the window.. i guess bad timing?
One more thing bothering me, its not a problem with you, but i am annoyed by the shadow of the line in the bricks photo to the right. It woulda been perfect without it.
Otherwise, i saved the glass one .. :D

actually, no. 1,3 and 4 are all views from my window. the decaying building you see in 4 is actually the house i live in...
the lightning for the last one is only possible in springtime, because otherwise the light would be blocked by buildings, so i'm glad i took that picture...
oooh, claude, you got me again. that little line there was bothering me, too. but i couldn't ask my neighbors to tear down their antenna. a little later and the shadow doesn't cover the whole chimney. so i took what i got...:)
so, tomorrow i'll have another look at the glass-brick house and see whether i get better light (thanks for the tip, rhynome!)
cheers,

I know it doesn't exactly fit what you normally do but would you mind taking a photo or two of Marburg? Nothing exactly artistic just a photo to capture a building or two, the architecture and terrain. If you can bring yourself to, or more importantly, have the time to.
I really like "Knock Knock", sort of like 'This is a door-knocker... concentrate on it.' Things we don't usually do. Might say to ourselves 'oh, interesting door-knocker', but that's it. That picture carries it on a bit.

Is Marburg built on a hill? Is there any particular history to that Manor-house looking thing at the top of the hill or is it just another generic Manor-house? The reason I ask is that it seems it's higher than the Church and in English towns there seems to be this thing (with old buildings at least) that the Church is always the highest building around, I don't know if it's meant to be, just it seems to be that way. You'll rarely see a building on a hill above a church. You could tell which town was which by the Steeple you were looking at; it's how people drew maps, they'd triangulate the landscape by using Churches. Ah, I'm fantastic at absorbing useless information.
Anyway, I take it it's not really the same case for Germany then, at least Marburg?
stine
May 9th, 2006, 08:48 AM
yup, the town is built on a hill for defensive reasons. the castle was built originally in the 13th century and then modified all the time. the whole town is almost built around the castle, including the churches. so there's no "ranking" in height... the biggest church ("room with a view") came a bit later, after marburg became one of the most important pilgrim places worldwide. before that we had several cloisters, thought. it's a typical (german) medieval town i guess... :)

Bella Italia and Suicide Sky are definitelly my favs. Also number 5 for the angle. Actually I cant really say why i like no 5. It has that something so i'll just blame on the angle :P.
Just wanna stop right here and mention how much i like Suicide Sky. It's that whole contrast between the beauty and freedom of the skies and the sadness and ugliness of death. Reminds me of Beck's "Paper Tiger"...
*Adds the song to the playlist*
Right.. moving on. Bob really needs a shaving. Never been a fan of macro shots but this i like> Maybe because it's an unussuall kind of macro.
Right, before i end this just wanna say i really like Suicide Sky. :)

Stine, I have to admit that much of the reason why I love your photography is the captions.
I like Suicide Sky, well I'm not a great fan of the title in this one; I'm definately not having a go at you, not at all, it's just not my taste. Though the caption does bring it back again. The reason I like it is because of the lines and blocks of colours. There's vary little variation in colour on the concrete or the rope or the sky, etc. It just looks good, and the way the eye follows down to the 'noose' has quite a good effect.
Le Gab, you anti-macro heathen! Before you mention my lack of camera I have been away for a bit and I wish I did have a camera, but then again it would have been a bit touchy to take photographs as it would have been of old Warsaw Pact equipment that coincidentally is the exact equipment the North Koreans are using and that the RAF is currently training on. It was also the base of 'Blue Streak', an eventually scrapped plan designed to take nuclear war-heads to East Germany and beyond. Looked like something out of a Bond film.
Back to Stine, as the post should be, thanks for the landscape. It's fantastic, shame there's noise, but I can ignore that and focus on the mountain. It's a really nice shot and thanks for that.

thanks so much for your posts, guys. sorry i didn't answer earlier, was really busy the last week...
alday j. - thanks a lot for stopping by and for the kind words. *blush* :)
le gab - thanks, gabriel! glad you like that photo - funny, cause usually the picture i'm most uncertain whether to post it or not gets the most positive reaction. strange. really need to work on my judgement abilities. :)
infinit - hey there! hope you're all right. has the "zivi" already started? thanks for stopping by, always great to welcome you in my threads again. :)
eazym - thanks!
rhynome - hey, every time a pleasure to read your comments! didn't like the title of "suicide sky" at first, too. found it a bit too rough, i guess. sometimes it's hard to transport a meaning in a language that's not your mother tongue. on the other hand, some titles are way more catchy in english ("natural barcode" e.g.). so i have to admit that for me thinking about captions is as much fun as actually taking the photo. :)
barret - thanks a lot for stopping by again! :)
cigaro - thanks!
dieter - thanks! good luck with the "early morning shots", looking forward to see more from you.
sooo, last week i scratched all my money together and bought myself a new camera (canon eos 350d).
a day later i was "set photographer" at a small diploma film project for a couple of days. took tons of photos (mainly portraits), but i don't think they're very "artsy". plus, i would'nt publish them here because i didn't ask the people there for their permission...
so sorry for not posting any new stuff, just didn't have the time to take pictures beside those jobs... hope i'll be able to be more creative in the next weeks working at summer academy here.
again, thanks a ton for stopping by! cheers

hey there, decided to post some pics from the film shoot -
the main problem was that my camera is quite loud for a film set(i don't own a noise reducer...), so i could only take pictures inbetween shooting. and of course i tried not to stand in the way, which isn't that easy (we were shooting in a hospital the first day). :)
so here we go, just a small serie...

I really like three, five, six and that last one you posted.
It's a shame in three that the man to the right's either so visible or not visible enough. It seems a bit like an unhappy medium.
I'm also quite taken with these photographs:
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/stine17/suggestion/donnerstag/spritzesetzen03.jpg
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/stine17/suggestion/donnerstag/lesen.jpg
The first one because of the way the people are positioned; staggered, going back into the picture. Though for reasons unknown I just prefer number 2.
(What's being filmed anyway?)

Number 7 (first set) looks like an erection. I think you should either have a penis poking the tip of the flower, or have spread legs on the sides, surrounding the flower tip. Or any old thing to make it look blatantly sexual. I think it'd be funny.

Hey Stine .. First I want to say that I am floored by your photography .. the colours are soo vibrant it is amazing .. very inspired right now .. Especially the one on the first page, Former Residents, I think it is called .. absolutely gorgeous .. the lighting couldnt have been better ...
Second - I am curious as to the camera that you are using .. cause I am soon buying a rebel .. is it necessary to go that high because if I can get the same quality of shots as you are I am more than satisfied ..

andres pad - well, couldn't have said it better (if i was male...). :)
dieoxin - thanks for stopping by in this thread, too! all the pictures you've ssen on the first two pages were done with a 4 year old nikon coolpix 775. 2 megapixels, no manual control at all. the photos from this page were done with my brandnew canon 350d. i think the difference is surprinsingly small, but i like the fact that i can control the picture much better now. i guess deciding what camera to buy mainly depends on what you want to achieve and how much money you would like to spend. there's a great sticky thread about that here in the section and a whole lot of people a lot more experienced than me talking about this topic... looking forward to see your photos! cheers,

Well, like I said, Ms. Stine, I'm not really sure. But, I'll give it a go, tell me if I'm crazy or way off-base on these. For example, "Stand Tall" seems a little of balance. It's kind of dead in the center but not really. Now I have no problems with centered images, nor assymetrical ones, but this one is somewhere in between, which i didn't know was possible.
Like I said this is hard to say because the pics are all nicely exposed and what not, and the stuff I'm pointing out doesn't ruin the picture, it just bugs me.
Same criticism applies to the complimentary color boards. I just think that this last batch is not up to your usual standards. I know most people have a love-hate relationship with their work, but take a look at some of your earlier stuff and tell me if I'm wrong.

'Come a little closer' is, wow... just, wow.
13426 (no.6) is also fantastic, I really like that one... that's the one with the hanging thing of which I can't remember the word.
The rest I also like, but it's those two that really stand out for me.
And no, it's not just you who really likes flower shots. A little confession is that I have most of yours saved on my computer in case they ever got lost into the nether that is the internet.
The focus on Sticks and Stones isn't really great for me. It seems that there's too much going on down at the bottom for it not to be in focus and my eye seems to be drawn towards it, but I don't know if the photo would go very well without it, ah well.

"floater" (term for a dead body in the water) is just a small part of the more morbid serie -- i realized how many "corpses" are in a single garden. all the dead leaves, animals and everything. so i looked for the dead and dying. well, that doesn't sound that wonderful, but actually i found it quite interesting. and in the end that's the basis for new life, eh? :)

Well, actually it lacks thatcertain crispness and sharpness that i ussually enjoy in your photographs . But then again, it's a very nice abstract. If you were going for abstract. Were you going for abstract...? Cauase if you weren't going for abstract... :P
Number 2: I really like the cold and lonely feel of the photo. The clouds are just awsome. I, for one, would ahve tried oe with more negative space, i think negative space gives you some great composition oportunities. Anywayz, great stuff. :D
Cheerio!

hey guys, long time no see. sorry! right now i have 4 jobs and besides that i'm working on my thesis and trying to draw/paint in my free time. so photography was a bit neglected...
morbid - thanks for stopping by, glad you like it!
andres_pad - wow, that's a cool new avatar, andre. the orange sweater gives it a slight prison touch, though... :) thanks for stopping by - that slug was huuuge and i was actually surprised how fast they are... :)
le gab - thanks for the crits, gabriel! with the first one i surely went for the abstract. was a little tough, though because the car went with about 180 km/h and was shaking quite a bit. would've liked it a little sharper myself... the negative space thing on the second is spot on, i see it myself now. thanks for poiting it out!
so here's a small collection of photos i did over the last few weeks - didn't have the time to actually go out and take photos, but i hope there's something in there you like. i studied books on composition for illustration and painting and so some shots are simply practising basic rules or getting nice shapes etc. as always, crits and comments appreciated!

Hi Stine,
I just read through and watched all of the photos in this wonderful thread.
Apart from the actual quality of the photos I like that there seems to be a clear line you follow which makes everything look like a logical progression.
And I would like to tell you that I laughed my head off at half of the titles. You have a great sense of humour.
I am new to this forum, I hope a reply in here gets me subscribed to this thread.:)

Ah, it's nice to see you're posting photographs again. The butcher's shop is actually just too painful to look at.
What's the line in 'borderline'?
Family ties is nice, as is fireman and I really like kitchencomp.
Though of course, favourite of the set has to be moonshadow.

thanks a lot for your kind replies, guys!
born stubborn - first of all: happy birthday, stub! :) and thanks for your comment. glad you like them!
eazym - thanks, mike. i actually took the photo for that reason, too. i want to get mysef some sort of "library" with different lightning conditions for drawing and painting and the full moon was a great opportunity...
mr. mu - thanks a lot for having a look and for your nice words. coming up with the captions is actually half the fun for me when taking photos, so i'm really glad you like them. :)
infinit - thanks, manuel. the shot of the butcher's shop was actually done a night before my tripod arrived, so i did that free handed. leaned on a wall and then basically stopped breathing. :) because i used iso 800, it had an aperture of 1/10 sec. i took 3 or 4 of those and was really surprised that all of them became relatively sharp. the moon shadow pic was done with the brandnew tripod on my desk (that's the view from my desk you see there). open window, me with pj's, but jacket and skarf, freezing and 1 o`clock in the night. :) i used iso 200 to avoid any noise and so it needed 30 seconds. it was really hard to get the houses in focus, because it was so dark, i couldn't see anything through the viewfinder. took me 5 tries or something... that was real fun! :)
rhynome - thanks for stopping by, rob. glad you like them. "borderline" is a cracked tile in our bathroom that always catches my eye - dunno why. :)
okay, i got some new pictures, but i will have to post-process them, because they are raw's. hopefully i'll find the time tonight to do that. just wanted to thank you guys for your support.

I've noticed that sometimes when you stick a caption/title on your photos they become a whole lot more interesting. Not just because the caption is amusing or thoughtful, etc. and so adds a little more, but also because sometimes it seems to make the photo make sense.
For example the photo "Bucket Full of Clouds" on its own is nothing much, sorry to say it, but it's true. Though as soon as the caption is added it suddenly becomes an entirely different photo altogether. I think that's one of the great things about your photography.
No crits, I pretty much like them all.
Levels is brilliant, for example, those sharp angles and the lines. Same goes for the Sun made Comb. The white stripe is just so crisp and, well, nice basically.
Coming Spring is also great, really nice idea. Though how many times have I told you not to use those web-translators to get English from German? You'll just come out speaking like Yoda and to be honest there are some thoughts about Yoda I'd rather not have...
About Great Expectations: Well, all I can say for now is that you're all coping better than anyone I know would and now go wash that ink off your hands you mucky pup.
It's also a pretty witty picture, nice touch.
Cheers. Thanks alot Stine, especially for showing us some photos again!

Mrs. Stine. We've been... expecting you! :)
It's really awsome to see new photos from you, dudete. The textures in Skin Peel and Relax, young padawan are very very nice. The composition in Levels, with sharp angles and diagonal lines really gives a dynamic feeling.
However, you may very well know that Sun Comb and Great expectations. Sun Comb is so very awsome given simple composition. minimalism A great find! But then again, ot's nothing compared to Great Expectations. For me there are really no words to describe the first contact with this photo. Not even the secon, or third... or any other. It's just... brilliant.
It's great to see new stuff from you, Stine.
I really hope everything is okay for you. I, for one, am really missing you arround here, and i dont think i'm the only one.

Holy moly, these are amazing, Stine! Looking back at your first post, the difference is amazing. You have amazing control over depth of field and exposure, your composition is fantastic and the colours are gorgeous.
I try not to only praise people in my comments, and, while you make it hard for me, I a have a few crits.
blockhead: a slightly deeper field wold have been nice, just one stop more to get a bit more of the body in focus. This would be to bring a bit more of the 'goatishness' into the portrait, just to drive home the stubornness and blockheadedness of the animal.
make-up: I would love to see this in a high-contrast black and white version. I love the contrast of the red and white, but I think the way B&W reveals the grain may also bring a new life to the photo.
DU SEI WIE DU, immer - Paul Celan: This is just absolutely amazing. No crits, just love. This is a photo that proves a picture really is worth a thousand words.
Keep posting, and I'll keep watching.
Cheers,

infinit - glad to hear you're fine, manuel. so in 2 weeks you're done with your zivi? congratulations! to your question: i usually don't crop my pictures, as i try to concentrate more on composing it in the viewfinder. in this case, no cropping done, it's all an "in-camera" effect caused by the extreme dof of the old lense i used. to prevent over-exposing the picture, i used a greyfilter. so it's all "natural"... :)

I like your short dof pics, but you can see clearly when you have the aperture fully open or not. In some pics, ie. "what to eat next", the out of focus areas are not very nice and are pretty distracting, where in "ikebana for beginners", its very smooth and nice.

Hi Stine,
your point-of-view is getting more and more abstract lately and I really like that.
You are one of those people who are able to depict something quite tangible yet the whole image borders on an abstract photo. Amazing.
EDIT: only crit I have... I don't like the crop on the last one, I am sure it is quite deliberate a choice so I am aware it's neither carelessness nor a "wrong" trait of that image. I just wish the close eye was complete.

okay, small update. it's a collection of some shots i did during the last 2 or 3 weeks. i've been experimenting a little bit more with still-lifes and colors, but tried to find some interesting stuff outside the house, too.
hope you like the shots, as always: crits and comments highly appreciated!

Well, it was about time! Where ya been? :P
Hey, dudete!
Great update. The experiments are really paying off. Fluff, magnifying magnifiscent and artificial vs. natural are looking very clean and natural. Not to say how i love the colors. jonas i like as well, as it is an interesting portrait idea, tho i think it migh have been better if you kept the framing but had made it in portrait mode.
Other than that, all dandy. :) Soryy i dont have time for a full photo by photo crit.
Anywayz, what have you been up to? :D

Damn it, you make it so hard for me to return the crits you give me because it's so damn hard to find anything wrong! Break on through is SO DAMN GOOD(!!!) that if you want to send me a slightly larger version it will go into my wallpaper folder and I will love it (and you) for at least a week :D Architectural Abyss is also excellent, the colour is perfect for the mood and the symmetry is brilliant.
In short: your work is a pleasure to behold.

they all very well compositionally. I really like the play between warm and cool tones as in: "warm-cold-contrast" , "break on through (to the other side)" , "fluff" , and "artificial vs. natural"

They are all excellent photos, the ones that stood out for me was "x-ray", "blushed pear" and "fluff". The soft background and the colors work very well in the latter two. Xray has nice light and looks very sharp. It looks like you have put some red in the blacks, looks cross processed.
Thanks for sharing!

Great update! :)
I really like the textures in "architectural abyss," I think it may be a bit overexposed on the left side though.
"x-ray" is really dreamy and I'm lovin' the warm tones. :)
I love how you handled the lights and darks in "living fossil," but maybe it could have a better composition?
"blushed pear" is a really excellent abstract. :)
Nice timing for "artificial vs. natural!" Though I'm not sure if the composition is the best for the concept.
