View Full Version : Print Quality Issues

Is there any reason my printer is scaling my images down randomly between one and three inches every time I use it. This happens no matter what program I print from and since I am using it for classes where print quality is part of my grade it becomes a major issue (eg: everything is hung up for a crit and mine is 3 inches smaller and instantly gets picked on by the professor.) The printer I am using is an Epson C83 and isn't exactly on the high end but it shouldn't be doing this should it?

Check that the default setting for the programs you are using aren't set to something like = 'Scaled to fit media' as this will mess with it, also that there isn't a boarder set on the print page as this can also rescale your picture.
Hope this helps or points you in tha right direction to sort your problem.

I haven't had the scale to fit option selected in any of the programs and the images are usually smaller than the 8.5x11" paper it is printed on so I don't think that is the problem but thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have the CD with the printer drivers? Try reinstalling those, or going to Epson's website and downloading new ones. That might clear up the problem, as it sounds like it's on the printer side and not on the graphics programs...

double-check the print size and dpi settings in your document, and see if perhaps the default dpi value used for printing differs from that.
fwiw, i personally only print directly from photoshop - image viewers sch as acdsee and the xp view thingie tend to ignore those settings (although in which case the printed result is a lot bigger than intended)

@cotron I'll give it a try, epson is discontinuing my model though.
@hyver I belleive it's printing at 150 dpi, and I'm printing form Illustrator as the images are vector and putting them into photoshop casues a bit of distortion.
