I have chance to go to Yale free or at a very low tuition because my mom went there. does anyone have experience/knowledge of its art program?

I've heard their Master's Program is phenomenal for Fine Arts (I had a friend graduate that program; he was a phenom before he left and came back even better) but beyond that, I really have no idea.

If I could go to Yale I wouldn't waste my time with art.

But if it's free or even at a dirt cheap price AND it's not worthwhile, why go?
So much for following one's heart here! I'd be asking hard ass questions about the program too before I accept what could be a white elephant. Woo hoo- big deal you got a degree from Yale but your portfolio upon graduation looks like ass.
I'd spend the money and go to a legit place and get a real education.

What a great oppurtunity man. GO FOR IT!!!! It's Yale. It's art. It's cheap. It's like winning the lottery.

Yes they have an incredible arts department.. but just be careful, art degress really can be difficult to turn into a career.

Listen to Elwell. As said in these forums a million times, where you go to art school is not important as long as you are good at it. In my opinion, you are better off taking advantage of their other amazing programs and maybe double major/minor in art. You will have the rest of your life to get good at art but one shot at getting a degree that will get you a job pretty much anywhere.

I guess my comment won't help you at all but...
Have your mom ever considered adoption of a Russian girl? I'll be the first in line.
Seriously, in Russia it's like the Olympic Gods place... Names like Yale, Harvard, MIT, Eaton, Oxford and Cambridge - here people would die to get there...
Too emotional, I know. But as have been mentioned above, Yale is Yale. Get there. Study. Get out of there. Then do whatever your heart (or/and brain) is telling. But I can't imagine any person to ever regret about studying there.

Same here. I wish your mom would like to adopt a Vietnamese girl. xD
In my opinion, it's definitely a YES. That is Yale. In addition to art, you have chances to meet a myriad of talented people pursuing different majors. So why not?
