I just turned 17 and have started looking into VCU's art program. I am not sure yet exactly which branch of the art program I want to apply for yet, but I am interested in the Kinetic Imaging program or something having to do with Illustration and Conceptual art.

I would most appreciate it if I could get some advice on what I need to be doing in order to prepare for gaining acceptance in one of these programs. Unfortunately I have had no formal art instruction, and have taught myself everything I know from books. I am planning on taking some classes at J. Sargeant Reynolds community college in the near future though. Hopefully I can get some advice about VCU preparation there too. The sooner I start getting ready, hopefully the more likely I will be able to get in.

Any advice will be most welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Well, first off, go and check the website. It has most of the info you will need. The portfolio you need is either 12 pieces of your own work or 10 of a list of stuff they assign. Half of that needs to be direct observation.

Vcu has plenty of majors for you to look at, me personally am going to try for Fine Arts. There is also going to be an open hose on Feb. 2 i think which is the last day for applications.

It looks like a pretty nice place in downtown Richmond and even though people say you should fear the streets I hear it is fairly safe.
