Does anyone think Bob Ross is an excellent painter? I watch his show all the time!

Yeah, he's kinda cool and his hairstyle rules.
Sometimes its amazing how easy he creates surfaces and objects.
The problem: Mountains - Forests - Lakes .. thats it :)
But it's fun to see him painting.

I mostly like him telling about his happy trees and stuff ;-)
True, the paintings are all the same and kinda boring. Up-close they don't look as nice and realistic as on TV.
I think Bob is not about the paintings. It's the whole Bob thing - including the hairstyle - that makes him rule the world.

He was a cool guy. Like someone said, upclose his paintings werent exactly great, especailly that ones he did on the TV show, but considering the time limit, they were pretty good. Kind of like in the DSG, you cant expect a great painting in an hour..
Alot of artists demean him, just because he did simple paintings, but I have respect for him by getting people into art and into oil painting.

that sums it up pretty well :)
indeed, i saw noone, lecturing about "all those little bugs, insects and animals, living in there, the rabbits, you have to think about them, feel them, all the little animals, having a good time" while painting bushes :)

i think there is a style of painting called "set" painting.
you take a bunch of set rules, stick them together and you get a great painting with close to no effort, easiest to do with nature sine things are so oraganic and it's hard to make "mistakes".

hehehe that video tape thing rules!
Yeah these rules things are something to think about when you want to make lots and lots of paintings -- maybe it is nice to have a list of 'tricks' (hope i'm not committing blasphemy here) that can help out when painting stuff. Sort of the book of cheats lol.
Wonder how it would translate to digital paintings?

I did not expect to see serious replies on this topic though, as an aside. :D i for one was not entirely serious when posting

it's not cheating...it's knowledge...
If you want to be good and fast, you need knowledge...some will call it cheating, mostly the ones who don't know...no offense here...
