With a backstory being neccessary, does that mean we can be interpretive as to what Valhalla is or.... are we talking THE Valhalla? Meaning an area or building called Valhalla due to it's size, prominance, appearance?

I think it's pretty much open for interpretation.

ah man, I didn't think I was going to enter this one, but I found an idea today. Pretty straightforward.
EDIT: Fixed a couple things and linked the old version. Many thanks to Rook for the helpful suggestions.
First Version (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/auden100/Eow12.jpg)
Valhalla stands beside the frosted peaks of Asgard, its massive walls housing fallen warriors brought by the wings of valkyries. Their days are spent in massive mock battles while their nights are filled with feasting under the watchful eyes of the wolf and eagle.

oh dude thats awesome, :D i really like that one, one thing to watch out for is your mountains in the bg, they look more like rocks then mountains, take a look at some refs from a distance mountains are usually far less cragggy, make the moon brighter and clearer too and on the snow use a large softish brush to clean up bits that arent at the edges

Valhalla, the fortress where the gloriously slain in battle determine themselves to assist Odin in Ragnarok, the gods' final conflict with the evil fire giants.

Very nice Auden! I agree with Red Rook tho, the mountains and the moon are quite blurry. Otherwise epic feeling :)

Auden: Thats cool man, I kinda had the same interpretation cold on the outside, all party inside :D
Sept13: I really like that shot and perspective.

The path to valhalla. Viking warriors walk the path and face the judgement of the each condemed. Vikings that weren't worthy of Valhalla and are frozen as statues. THe Condemed are only allowed to attack the unworthy. When the Unworthy is slain, they are damned and frozen as a monument and pass judgement for 1000 years. Those that are worthy can pass without incedent.

Valhalla Prison
Valhalla Prison is modern international prison, situated to big waterfalls. It is "home" for the worst criminals on the World. Is called Valhalla because these criminals are like gods in underworld. Escape from this superstructure is impossible, only way to this prison is by air.

Rawwad, I like, great arctitecture, deffinatley different from what other people have interpreted but thats what this thread is about. It does seem the persp is off on the skyscraper, I have a heel of a time figureing out how to rotate a square properly in perspective too. I just don't know the rules on how to do so. If anyone knows plz post the solution

Nice Makk, don't demotivate yourself by claiming it crappy. You just have to think it as a practise and promise yourself to do better next time. I'm sure you've learned lots from this piece, eh?
Just keep up the good hark work :)

Auden100: Nice classic viking thing you have going there, nice cosy feeling in the contrast snow versus warm lights from the inside.
Sept13: Cool blocky style! Kinda makes me think a little about "The Incredibles" (spelling?).
DepleteD: Nice pic, I like esp the color scheme and the clouds.
Rawwad: Cool as usual, nice finish. Kinda looks like a part of a motherboard =)
Makk: Not crappy. I like especially the sky and the mountains, believable colors. Maybe you could put on some atmospheric perspective on the farthest stone just to push the depth a little?

JUST makin it I think!!!
anyways, here it is:
http://www.sketchling.com/artwork/2006/Valhalla_EOW.jpg
It was a little known fact that valhalla had a servants entrance as well as a grand one aflock with Valkieries.... Ivan had no idea that using this entrance forever denoted his status in the afterlife and that because of his blunder and despite the valiant killing of all his enemies and the rampant raping of his captured women... he was about to become someone elses bitch...

Sketchling, that's freakin hilarious! The image is great... but the concept is outstanding! Sounds like something Terry Pratchet would put in a book. Very cool.

Sketchling – beautiful lights and atmosphere…really amazing. :hatsoff:
depleted, Sept13, auden100….beautiful pieces.
BTW ….I am not good in this kind of painting. To telling the truth, I suck! So maybe someone can make some kind of tutorial. You know….something like …HOW TO paint an environment? What are you thinking guys? I am thinking about an architecture or landscape.
Red_Rook, maybe you can open new thread?
Cheers!

VALHALLA
Valhalla is a cemetery of Dr. Saint Paul Hospital. This mental hospital was built in 1946 next to Barris. This hospital was for combatants and victims of war. At the beginning the cemetery was unnamed, 'cause for just a few graves there were no need to do it. But one night, November 24th, 1957, changed everything. That night all patients died under mysterious circumstances. After that Hospital was closed and corpses buried. The Police haven't found any reasonable explanation concerning this incident. But people start saying that gods couldn't stand the pain and sorrow of this people any more. So they decided to take them to heaven... Asylum was never opened again, and the last order of hospital's director was to name the graveyard a VALHALLA. The place where warriors and soldiers go after the time of death.
