Well, this is my second posting here on CA with a try at a sketchbook. Hopefully I go farther with this one. I've started a website and I've been trying my best to improve. Please, C&C is welcome.
I know it's not much, but I plan to do more updating, daily at best. The pictures are a little distorted because I took the pictures with a cheap digital camera, I apologize in advance. :yayca:

My only suggestion would be to work the pencils and lines of the drawings further, before bringing them into the computer for painting.
Work on your figure as well. www.saveloomis.org Check out "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth"
I hope you make good on your aspirations to update this thread regularly.

Sorry haven't posted in a while. No scanner, so I'm working a lot digital now. I want to do a single self portrait every day. So far I'm into the 5th day.
Here are the results, and please tell me what you think would help me improve my skills.

Sorry its been so long, very busy. Moved into my first ever apartment with my gf! Should be fun, and will give me a chance to work a lot harder on my abilities. Well, I also got a new camera so I can take pictures of what I'm doing. Right now I'm taking 4 art classes, visual foundations I and II, advanced figure drawing, and intermediate painting. It keeps me going, but please tell me what you feel will help me improve. I'll be dropping more off tonight, sorry again for the long wait. I love this place, I feel like improvement screams from it, so thank you for letting me join.
We have to create a 3-d mask so I made a few sketches to see what I want to bust out.

Nice start at your sb, keep it going. You should draw bigger, that way you see your mistakes better and learn faster.

sorry...this is all for tonight...left sketchbook at a friends room...grr...:android: but...i plan on updating tomorrow...
well this was one of my attempts at PS...i love a lot of the work produced here in CA with the program...but i can never seem to get it down myself..i'll just keep trying:yayca:
im also trying my best to keep up 50 faces a day in my sketchbook...only hitting about 40 a day though...still...trying...i'm having a lot of fun with it..but i don't know if i should stick to realism or manga styles with the face studies..or both...i got my hands on a yoshitaka amano book...so i've been playing around with that face style a bit..i really enjoy the environmental designs as well...they are hella cool...
any who...nighty night :$

Hey warlock. =) I can definitely tell you, keep up the quantity and avoid discouragement, youll see that the results start to pour in. Draw larger as well, as already noted. Practice will make perfect.

40 faces a day is fucking impressing man. Props for the dedication. My suggestion is that you stick to realism as much as you can in all your studies. That's what I would've done atleast. What I'd like to see you do is draw tons and tons from life and start studying the human figure more carefully. Read Loomis, Bridgman, Hogarth etc. or just take a look at Mentler's TSOFA. Mix it up 1/4 studies and 3/4 life drawing maybe. Really life drawing is where it's at for improving your skills, nothing beats it. And what you draw isn't the important thing, just draw whatever's in front of you. Your girlfriend, your cat, your comp, your dinner, whatever. Draw from life!

now....i've been drawing with a .05 sakura pen for prolly 4 years now....when i try using a pencil....i usually just give up because i can never get the effect i want....now....i was just thinking that may be...i'm drawing extremely small because i'm using a pen with such a small nib size?....does anyone have an opinion on this?...do you think i should use a ballpoint pen...i was told it's a lot easier to work larger with...and i've seen a lot of artists on CA using them....please..any opinion would help i think....sakura .05 the wrong way to go?

well heres tonights sketches....i feel like i need to improve but don't know what to do exactly...i'm working on anatomy...and continually do...should i increase my visual resources by studying reference items like clothes weapons environments etc etc....or will studying references slow down the progress i would recieve from just drawing from my head....i feel like i want to draw some robots and ship designs but i don't see them as functional when i do...or just purely unappealing..in any case....here you goes:tihi:

nonono u should study from ref as much as possible. i find that if u study it by drawing it ur adding it to the memory banks u have in ur head, and then later wen ur drawing, u'll subconsious will pull out wat u drew b4 and help u apply it to a current drawing or help problem solve an area. if anything it will help and speed up ur imagination drawings. u got some neat stuff here. just keep working, the more that u draw the better ull get. i might suggest drawing really quickly while lightly holding ur pencil to block in ur shapes and give ur head something to see and work with. then treat it like a sculpture and carve out ur drawing. practice practice practice is all. peace.

Thanks for the reply on my sketchbook. What would recommand for you to do is forcus on one thing. Don't try to do to many things at once. That what someone on my sketchbook said. Study human body and it anatomy and once you conquer drawing it move on to something else.
