More doodles from imagination.
Also, I really need to start planning my drawings better, because my dumb ass can't seem to manage fitting a pair of feet on the same page as a body.

Alright, this thread has basically been a bunch of drawings of dudes. That is a problem. This post attempts to begin to remedy that problem.

More stuff. Ps doodle from imagination, and a PS sketch and some drawings from ref.

Good lines, but i think you could go even further in the details and stuff... just let that pencil go man... and do some pens, paints, etc too !

DanC- I definitely hear ya. I'll try, man!
Today- PS enviro from ref with some slight liberties taken near the end.

It's true.
I'm trying to be a little less timid with the pencil so these were basically done by just throwing down anything that came to mind. I'm also working in pen a bit. Also, two SPs. Interestingly enough, one is a bit too squat and one's too tall. Mathematically, by the squeeze theorem a middle face exists between them and is equal to my face. I will continue to attempt to calculate it.
Also some random texture studies. I'm going to start studying trees and drawings of them, cause I'm clueless when it come to those fuckers.
Lastly. some concerns that need to be addressed: I need to draw more. I never draw my damn hair in any of these SPs. All of the SPs are from the same angle because that's the only place on my drawing desk I can fit a mirror. Therefore, I must either get a new mirror or figure something else out because this is honestly ridiculous. Finally, feet suck, faces suck, clothing folds suck etc. etc...

Wow, you have been progressing immensely, and the diligence with which you keep up the studies is very impressive.
Keep those up, of course, but you really need to start moving into move finished stuff. Unless you start advancing your knowledge to the next level, you'll eventually just taper off as 'someone who is really good at doing studies'.
It like when I showed my sketchbook to Jason Manley, and he asked me what I wanted for a job. I said concept artist. And he pretty simply asked me, "Well, where are all your concepts?"
Studies are very important. But unless you apply them to what you REALLY want to do and what you REALLY want to be good at, they won't be nearly as valuable as they can be.
All the best mate.

Hey still checking regularly, mate, just ant to post for a change and tell you how amazing you're doing, I really dig this: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=414701&stc=1&d=1216269896
And that's mainly because I dig good drawn breasts. Well done brother!
Your overall observation-skills are fricking amazing.
Your colors are getting better, also! I know it's frustrating when there's a gap between certain aspects of drawing and painting but push them! I'm sure they'll be pretty beautiful in no time!

Dude! Girls! With boobs!
Them SPs are gettin better, but you're still a bit sloppy with the proportions. Try getting that right before you put down the values, it's much easier to correct when you've just got construction lines. And when you do get to values, try getting more of them. Charcoal, perhaps?
I admire the patience I see you have. I can never slow down and take it easy.

Ryn, Faust, and Serp, I hear you all loud and clear. Thanks for the crits and encouragement!
I will be gone for a week or so, so no updates for a bit. Not that you would have noticed the difference, to be honest.
Anyway, here's the usual. I feel like I've been plateau-ing for a while now. I think the key for continuing to push forward lies in more finished pieces, and expansion into other mediums. At the very least, for now, even If I'm not overall improving, I feel like I'm becoming slightly more consistent, so that's something.
More to come soon-ish.

Oh crap. So much shit has been going on. I went to Seattle, then school started, then college application, and now my power just came back on after just under a week. I have so much crap to upload that it's not even funny, so I will be doing this in chunks over the next few days, because this page is already killing my bandwidth.
In short, here is part one of a bunch of crap.

Keep it up! :anime: :asspat:

What? You had no power for a week? At all? Man , I thought being without just the internet for a day or two was bad enough!
The latest update is overall pretty sloppy, thick lines, messy hatching, I know you can do better that that! The one with the sunglasses is pretty cool, though.

Christian223- Thanks mate, I'll watch that!
Serp- You got me man. Those were almost all done on the bus, but that's no excuse. Also, having no power sucked, but it wasn't that bad, because you don't expect much anymore.
The dump continues. This is all junk from my Moleskine that that I did in Seattle. More dumpage to come.

November 11th, 2008, 12:40 PM
Whoops. Remember when I said soon? Yeah, I meant in two months.
To start, good news. My janky old computer has gotten replaced, so internet access is no longer an issue. My college apps are also basically done, which was the main thing on my plate (besides laziness) keeping me from updating. Also, I had to design a website for a few schools, so I have one now. Check that shit out and give me some tips, since It's just some HTML I threw together. You can find it at www.josephkameen.com (http://www.josephkameen.com)
Anyway, I realize it's been forever since I've been active here, but I really want to be an active part of the community again (that and I feel like my art has gone nowhere over the last 6 months.) So, let's get to it!

Sheeeiit. Been a while, huh? Anyway, I've just been spending this time finishing up high school as best I can and preparing for college. In fall, I head up to Boston U for the College of Fine Arts program. I've still been drawing regularly, just not scanning.
Anyway, here's the latest batch. Let's see if I can keep this up again since it's summer now.

And here's what I'm currently doing on the side. It's a larger-than-life-size (the tallest figure in these photos is probably 9 or 10 feet tall) creche based on an older set. Kind of interesting duplicating something I didn't make myself.

Back to business! I took a break for a while there because I've been preparing for and then moving into college. I'm going to Boston University with a major in painting. I know that maybe it would have been better to go to an art-specific school, but BU gave me a scholarship that I couldn't refuse, and no art schools I applied to gave me enough to make them even remotely affordable. But, I think I can definitely get what I want here with enough work on my part. So, here starts the next phase of the journey.

Hey long time no see! I like the portraits from ref, hope you're learning a lot from them. One thing I think with your figures from imagination is that you need to use what you learn from other studies in them more. You always use the same head construction, and I know you can do eyes better than what you did on that cowboy, man! Anyway, keep working, you've definitely improved since I last was here!
Cup of Joe
November 22nd, 2009, 11:26 PM

Wow, so much progress! You are doing really well man! As a small crit, sometimes your faces (mostly the ones from imagination) look a bit off. Especially the eye size/placement, they look a bit odd. Don't be afraid to play with different facial expressions as well.
Keep up the good work man, you are really making strides!

Pretty good rendering on it though.

Nice drawings! The life drawings look good, but remember, plane analysis is not everything, you have to remember rythm and the general form and flow of the body... you know..;)
BTW, you tend to put big noses on your figures from the imagination. Keep drawing, keep posting!

Man, just looked through the whole of your book. :O
It's just mindblowing that you can go from this (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/cojcpm/CIMG1023.jpg) to stuff like this (http://attachments.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=799174&stc=1&d=1255147012) and it's so inspiring to just watch the journey - I love these sort of sketchbooks. :)
Just watching your hard work is so motivating and I can't wait to see where you end up, because I know it's gonna be amazing. :D
