Help needed with Paint brushes!!!

I usually only use the "fluffy" airbrush to paint with but Im getting fed up with it. I've been trying to figure out how to use the Hard Paintbrush for a long long time now and this is my most recent attempt.

Any suggestions on brush settings would be fantastic.

I don't know that much about brushes, still only just starting to learn about digital painting - but I think your creature looks awesome! I love you brushwork it's really expressive!! :D
