Here's my first attempt with Zbrush, but I've been using many different 3D programs before, so I'm not new with 3D.
This seems like a really cool program if you want to create something very detailed very quickly. I did this in couple days, and I'm still just learning this program.

So here's couple sketches for this creature.

And here's some screenshots and test renders from the prosess.

And finally a quick test, yet without textures.
This is painted in photoshop, using one of the test render, so I would know better what sort of textures to create later.

Here is the block model for Zbrush, and below it two screenshots of the animatable mesh(design of it). Now it's far better to animate, since the polygon flow is designed, considering how the character will move, and how the muscles go. I drew the polygon flow over a texture in Zbrush, so it's easier to design it. Later I just snapped new polygons over my old Zbrush model, using the drawed polygon texture.

And since I'm here, I might as well put couple renders here too. As you can all see I just threw some color in, but the textures are coming.

Here is a concept of a girl that is going to be in that new story.
I have not written that new story yet and I just have some pieces in my head, that should be in it. This concept was also a research of the style I want in this short film. This girl is going to be rendered to look as real as humanly possible, though I don't think I will reach the level of the LOTR. At least by my self and with my 1,6 Ghz amd :)
This film is going to be very dark and stylized. Think of TimBurton-mixedwith-Giger-mixedwith-me, and you should get very close.

And finally!

Concept for this project and at the same time the films mood concept.
This picture will be painted in four layers, and projected on polygons, to get small camera movement.
That wierd creature above will be in the tree on the right corner, and girl on the ground on left. Camera will move back, slightly to right and tilt to left. (right side rises)

Concepts look great, don't know why you havent gotten crits yet! That first sketch for the creature is beautiful!
The creature itself looks awesome for the most part, I just dont like the legs, they seem to long and skinny to support the rest of the body. Dont know what look youre going for though. would be helpful if you gave us an idea of what the movie is about.
Girl has a lot of personality, but looks a lot more stylized than the monster. Can't tell until you do your render, but seems like they dont fit together in that way.
Oh and the last mood shot is sweet! Love the colour, mood and texture!

Yeah, I'm surprised there weren't more crits here too.

With the Monster; its cartoonish body seems to fit in with the style of the girl more than its head. The head is very grotesque, but blobby and unrefined enough that is doesn't fit, as Green Sock said, in the same "world" as the girl.

You don't have to make the head appear comical or overly cartoony, maybe just carry over the more defined style into what you already have on the Monster's head - define some teeth better, hint at some facial planes. I've only used Z-brush once, but it's too damn easy to make orcs and blob monsters with it; push it a bit further :)

Love the blue environment sketch, btw. I really hope you keep at this project and keep updating!

hah, these are really nice, my favourite so far is the test render you did up in photoshop, i think the lighting of it looks really cinematic, like a frame from a feature film. It would be very interesting to see a model of the girl to see how the style connects to the creature, because the creature, its overall shape is almost comical, but the head and close up its utterly grotesque (and really cool) maybe put in more harsh lines (overlaps in the model) like around the eye, it would make it that bit more 3d and apply a painterly feel of harsh line against soft. :) ill be interested to see what comes out of this.

Hello folkes, sorry for bringing up this old thread, but I wasnīt brave enough to create a new one :)
This project is advancing slowly, but still there indeed is progress! :P

And by the way thanks for your feedback. You guys had so good critiques that I had to come back here to post my latest updates on this project.
I liked the girl concept, but the story has envolved so much that it happens fully underwater, so she didnīt really fit in it anymore.
I donīt know if Iīll have to drop that long legged wierd dude too.

Anyway, hereīs couple concepts for the looks of the underwater scene.
http://dawnkill.com/galleria/albums/userpics/10001/underwater.jpg
http://dawnkill.com/galleria/albums/userpics/10001/Underwater_mermaid.jpg

Hereīs the fist Sea King character that I designed.
http://dawnkill.com/galleria/albums/userpics/10001/Fishface.jpg
and 3d model of him.
http://dawnkill.com/animaatio/render/WipModelling01.jpg
http://dawnkill.com/animaatio/render/SkinShaderTest01.jpg

Never the less, I wasnīt very happy with the outcome of the Sea King. He just didnīt have enough character to carry through his role in the story. So I had to redesign him, even though I had already modelled, and UV-mapped him.

Any critique is wellcome.

Thanks,
-Pete

i think ur doing great, just one tiny little crit though

whne using Zbrush you kinda loose yourself in to it, and get lost in the detail, and there4. forget the bigger picture, the details in our sculpts are great, but whne you stand back and and watch them as an siluette, they look kinda disortet and wierd. think about that in the future, just my though on it, other then that

nice woork, keep at it ^,^
