This was done for Background painting class and was part of my Super Thursday Presentation

The assignments for Background Painting Class are all "Adjective" based....meaning u choose 3 adjectives...and construct an image to convey those adjectives. My adjectives were i believe grand, warm. and adventurous?

Awesome bg. I like the soft light, it's welcoming. I think some more darks could have been used and some more contrast up front. Are these backgrounds for this class for animation type projects? Or do you do matte type stuff too?Thx for posting.

very beautiful, i can picture the overall contrast of the picture to be up'ed a few. a little more black and some very brights in the background would help out.

also there's an overall warm feeling to the image, you have some cools but they are some what "warm-cools" in the trees to the right you have kind of purplely blues, i think those could be saturated a tiny bit and bring out the coolness too them.

Hey, guys, can you fill me in on what exactly 'Super Thursday' at Art Center is?

I like the image overall, but I think it falls short and succeeds in some areas in terms of conveying the adjectives.

'Warm' you've captured right on the money.

I think 'grand' is a bit hit or miss because the scale and framing of the image seems more 'intimate' to me. This looks more like someone's 'happy' place.

I like the top of the natural stairs where you have this sort of floating, conical plateau. With more features like that, the 'adventurous' would be more realized.

blackhand: Super Thursday...is kind of a tradition at Art Center....ive only been involved with it since last term and ive known of it since the term before my first super thursday and thats only because i was in ryan church's class....

Super Thursday is an event at Art Center...were all the students in Entertainment classes, Trans? Product? and maybe film? (not sure about those other Majors. btw Entertainment is not a Major at Art Center but just the designation of a select few classes) basically put on a show for industry people who come to Art Center on thursday of week 13....(Art Center tri-mesters are divided into weeks of which there are 14 weeks in a term)...I was involved in the Entertainment portion of Super Thursday...the Entertainment portion consisted of 3 entertainment classes...each having a separate project to present.

1) Adv Ent. Design with Scott Robertson
2) Visual Dev. with Christian Schellwald? and David James
3) Entertainment Studio with Bill Wallen

as u might have noticed...Super thursday falls on week 13...a week before finals are due for our other classes...so that means we have to be done with everything for Super Thursday a week in advance...and for some of us who ended up taking two of those 3 classes had double that insanity....i was involved with the Visual Development classes project which was an entire class group assignment, and Adv Ent which was also theme/assigned based but we didnt work in groups.

Davi- thanks for the tips.

weapon 82- its a traditional background painting class. emphasis is on composition and value etc. instead of on subject matter
meaning the instuctor didnt care what u painted or how u painted it..digital or traditional, though he prefered traditional being a traditionally trained disney painter
