Good stuff mate.
I like the range of work you got here.
My fav is that brown cityscape, a lot of emotion and atmosphere there. But i'm an enviro so hey :D
First sketchbook page needs a bit more line variance to be easily readable, but hey it's your sketchbook, it's there for you and you only.
Nice sublety of tone in the ref.
Just watch the anatomy, look at loomis, get too know your underlying structure on the body.
Keep on art'ing

Heya, welcome to ca (yeh, it wasn't that long ago ;) ) and great to see a sketchbook!
Gotta say your "pretty lame unfinished enviros" are my favs here, I think they look great ! Have you worked with digitals for long? (asking because of the 'wacom' piece)
You better keep this upated :)

hy strize,
Here is your fan from the "yorckstudios". After you really opened up a sketchbook (iam really proud) i first have to give you some kritik and after this i am forced to open up an own sketchbook (i didn´t want to be a couchpotato). Your works are still great. I think you really can handle with light and shadow and your knowledge about enviroments grows continualy.
The color and the clothes of your charakters are very lively especially the one you´ve made with the vacom. I think now you could spend more time to some details. Make the figurs get alive with some associations in order that the viewer has fun to imagine what kind of person he is seeing.
The vacom sketches are really on the right way to fascinate the viewer with their naturalistic appearance and their inner flair wich chiefly comes through the light.
altogether i wanna to say that i like your fast and secure stroke.
My favorite picture is the one with the hot lady. She`s so sweet and looks like she needs somebody.
Go on with this real shit, you showed me ones more that only constant actions bring you further.
See you later in the kitchen!

kicek,
you've got a great set of images already going here... very impressive environments and your speedpaints are looking so nice. I like that you've got both a good feel for how light works (like in the brown street scene that's so nice) and for very nice line work.
here's a crit for the self portraits you are doing...
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/6181/n230ms.jpg looks alright, but i'd stay away from putting that much value / lines around the lips until everything else is pretty much rendered: as is, it looks kind of girlish. try to think of the head in 3d shapes, the mouth being kind of a roundish muzzle with the lips and chin as three dimensional parts of.
gorgeous work here.... hope to see you post more!!!

Man, really sweet sketchbook. A lot of variety, youre strong in a lot of areas.
Crit-wise I'd say you could push value further in your pencil work to create more depth

very nice environments dude. Anatomy has already shown improvement from the first post to the last. Someone already said to push your values more in your sketches and I agree. I noticed For you environments, you can try seperating the layers (fore/mid/background) more. Wish I can crit more but I'm still learning myself!

I love your environments. Just amazing. I'd really like to see some environments that are...sharper...more refined I guess soemthing like in post#9, the city with the floating eggs...sorry idk what else to call it. I'd like to see more of that. And I also notice that a lot of your environments are red and black, I bet you could dazzle us with some new colors eh? eh?
I really do like your anatomy studies too. I love making figures, although I really don't know how my anatomy compares hehe. I wish I could tell you something critical but I cant cuz well bluntly your better than me lol.
Awaiting those sweet updates :D

Those unref anatmy pages are great. I dont know if its done on purpose, but i really how they look like. It reminds me of the devils advocate (with Al pacino).
The last pages look great also, but it seems you did pencils first then overlined with a pen.. ? just want to know, cause im doing some errors and i wanted to see if im the only one doing pencils before :P
Anyway, your doing some cool stuff, so keep posting.

Excellent work here. I really like your line work as well as your color.
Only thing I can really offer is perhaps using diferent line weights as well as differnet textures to help pull a few things into the front/push them back. Your work already has a great sense of space, but it might help... just my 2 cents.

April 2nd, 2006, 09:44 PM
wow, excellent stuff. one crit, it seems to me that when you are drawing faces from life, you seem to squish the features all into the middle of the face, like they're mushed a bit. I dunno, maybe that's what those people really looked like, i can't say. but your enviros are spot on (improvement there since the beginning of the sb) and you sure do like those catalog chicks huh? good idea, i think i'm gonna try that now. keep it up

April 8th, 2006, 01:16 AM
The main one I was looking at was the first one from the 8th of March post, seemed a bit flat. Just needs a little line weight in the foreground to put things into space. Overall I think your spot-on, espcially in your thumbs, just little nit picky stuff.
I really like the 2nd and the last one of the newest post!

Excellent paintings, you seem to have a good handle on values and colour (basically the same thing because with one comes the other xD)
One thing i'd like to see more is some more dynamic poses. Alot of the people you have painted have nice a nice rhythm to them, but they look frozen in time. Not as if we are truly seeing them? Do you get what i mean? blah hope i didnt lose you.
Anyways, overall your top notch and your stars show it:)

Well, this book deserves the 5 star rating, I'll add to it. I love the last batch of works but I'm wondering what's going on in that last one? Did that guy take a quiver of arrows in the mouf? Also from the last batch I love how you've brought out the details in the armor of those guys even though they're almost all just a black stroke, tricks the mind into imagining the rest.
Earlier there's a drawing with a light saber which isn't working for me, something with the angle and the arm proporotions.

loving this sketchbook - having had a look back over the past 10 pages since you started your sketchbook i have to say the improvement is remarkable
proof if proof were needed that sketchbooks work! very accomplished colours and lovely loose lines.
the master studies are especially nice - did you find them a very useful exercise? i've seen quite a few people attempt them but im curious whether they are more or less valuable to the artist than live figure studies... what would you say you learnt most from them?

Very good work! Scene design has a great sense of color, and the use of brushes very skilful and experienced, and images is very rich, I just love them.
In particular you want to learn this style works, I hope you will become very well-known artists!

G-damn, your colors and values are spot on. I haven't had so much time to paint but this makes me reconsider my schedule to fit in more painting study time :X.

Wow man,
I've been following this sketchbook for a while, mainly because of the awesome delicious enviro's I've seen in here.. Very nice ^^ :asspat:
Anyways, I'll try to say something constructive as well in this post:
- In this image (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=262186&stc=1&d=1198022442) I really like the sketchy lines, describing the forms, but watch those proportions! Especially the guy on the right looks a little wonky with his legs and arms, also the feet might be a bit too small on the two on his left, but anyways that's just nitpicking.. I like the creativity you show in these.
- In this image (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=241698&stc=1&d=1195343542) I love love love the atmosphere you create.. Only nitpick I found is that I'd like the rain to be a little less stripey, I think lowering the opacity of the rain would do it already tho. Some higlights on the rain might help for the wet effect of it, but I'm just blabbering away here, never tried that..
- And in this ont (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=262184&stc=1&d=1198022395), I'd like the right and lower part to be slightly more worked out, I just have no idea what's going on there. But anyways, it was a quicky and you probably focussed on the figure :lineart:. Nice colours!
So.. That was my try to find crits ^^ :steph: :mittenbop:
Love, and a merry christmas (although it's the last day) :scribble:
Marleen.
