I'm going to start posting some of my sketch book because I love this section. So many great ideas/talents here I just have to play along.
These drawing are concepts that I'm developing for a story of mine. (Still fleshing all of that out right now.)
The first character I’m going to post is the Tortosaur.
Tortosaurs
Tortosaurs are a genetic mix between Human, Brontosaur, and Tortoise.
Tortosaurs are not the fastest moving creatures on the planet, in fact some would say that the are downright slow, but where the Tortosaur lacks in speed he well compensates for it in power. A Tortosaur is believed to posses the strength of over 100 men.
Tortosaurs live in the great plains with the wild WerkOx, but they do not hunt these great beast but rather use them as beast of burden.
Tortosaurs and domesticated WerkOx over the years have developed a special bond. A young teenage Tortosaur is bound to a calfling WerkOx
Tortosaurs average life span is around 100 - 150 years. It is said that the eldest of the Tortosaurs, Eldor, has been alive for over 200 hundred years.
Tortosaurs are great keepers of nature, they single handedly over see the health and maintenance of over 1,000 plants and animals in the Great Plains and Oak Wood forest.
Tortosaurs have also been graced with being the protectors of the TIME power core.
Tortosaurs are some the most gentle, companionate, humble and loyal creatures you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting.

this stuff is really cool. its something ive always wanted to do.. creating a whole world around a species and characters. The culture shows through on these ones... a really cool indian/tribal theme showing through.
Ill keep an eye out for this.. would be interesting to see some other concepts species etc in this.
Is this for pleasure or have you like a game or book etc in mind. Great stuff.
Andy.

jHagen - Thanks for the props man!
PHATandy - This is for pleasure right now. I would like to do a comic some day and then a game way down the road. Still have to design a lot.
ZebzFree - Yeah I draw a lot more than just the Tortosaurs, they are just one race that I am working on and they are the most complete right now.
Here is another example of what is to come:

Some really great stuff in here, again a nice world your creating with the tortosaurs.
if there was anything I could tell you to work on it would be depth. You seem to rely on overlaps to show depth and it is creating some confusion. You repeat the same values through-out your characters as well, your 3-D Tortosaur might be a good example of where to lean.
Perhaps give your self a stonger more defined lightsource so that you have cast shadows from the character onto itself? Perhaps tweak it a bit with linestrength as well, say thicker for things that are closer thinner for further away?
Flesh out your value range and intensity range, I think this is really the only thing holding you back right now.

Idiot Apathy,
Thanks for the crits. I totally agree with you. I would like to get more form and dramatic lighting in my work. I will have to start pushing myself harder in those areas.
I took a look at your SketchDump area, you have some real nice work. I also noticed that you do some paint overs of other artist lines.
I would love it if you took one of my pencil concepts that have and do your thang.
Thanks again,
NickZ.

TO become good at colours, I suggest you study the masters such as rembrandt and monet, there's alot more but they have weird names that I can't pronounce or remember. :)

What I found most enjoyable was the textures, highlights, and shadowing you were able to achieve with pencil (like in Frog King and Komodo). Great stuff. I have always used one of those blending stumps, but have heard that art teachers discourage that (I did not go to art school). After looking at your work, I guess I understand now why blending may be discouraged. You do not blend, and so end up with work that has much more detail.
I think you could do grand things with your talent. And, about the fallen angels...I think initially they were unchanged. They do not eat like we do, but receive their energy from the light of God. The angels bask in that light. The fallen ones cannot. If they are injured, they do not regenerate. Also, in time they changed...becoming shrunken and grotesque. Perhaps the mightier ones retain a few noble characteristics. Maybe they eat what Satan eats - dust (see Genesis). We become dust (see Genesis). Does this mean the fallen ones are nourished by the spirits of the....unbeliever? Don't know.:\
