I'd like to see what you all think of this one. I think the hands came out too wimpy and human-llike.

Here's the idea....
The unfortunate outcome of an underground civilization's sprawl into uncharted underground depths.
here's another recent one...

A few beast wranglers underestimate a species intelligence.

Ummm, WOW! That first one is an awesome piece. I really like the hands for feet. That just creeps me out. The thought of that thing sitting up on its tail and thwapping me with four arms and two legs containing fists is not a pleasant one.
The second one could use bit more motion in the humanoid figures since I think those dinosaurs would be throwing them all over the place. But the technique and color are awesome.
Great work!

Holycrap, thats amazing. i dont think the hands look wimpy at all, it gives him an intellectual/oposable thumb vibe. Wow.. any chance you'd let me model a few of them in 3d for practice? Email me if you dont mind, mattcrawford@comcast.net
I could'nt do them justice, but damn are they inspiring. Keep up the great work, I really look forward to seeing more of your work on the boards.

Hey, Cire600!
Awesome, awesome stuff!
I see you are a fellow SU grad. I graduated in 98. Were you an illustration major?
If you ever read the DO, I was the guy that did "Krazy Kan", but if you didn't, never mind.
Again, amazing work. Your monster designs are superior and very original.

WOW! WOW! ... and did I say... WOW!
Those are great !
I think I agree with you, the hands on the first one could use a tad more angst and angles... and the figures in the second could be in more animated positions, but ZOINKS SHAGGY!
Great Stuff!

hey man, totally cool creature designs... I am most impressed with the acrylics.. I am working a lot in acrylics now (cuz of school) and am blown away by the detail.
what kind of acrylics and medium do you use? or did you use to get such smooth technique... I am finding that acrylics dry really fast and have been using water to adjust the work time. any advice would be great.
but stunning work my man!!!!

Nice piece!!! I can get a real sense of the texture in the wing in this one. It looks like it's a stretchy rubbery material. Nice attempt on the see thru parts.
The texturing is lovely, I especially love those leaves in the foreground.

eli,
You may already be doing this but... To keep the paints moist when I use acrylics, I use one of those large plastic trays with the top and the big flat sponge (or paper towels once thats ruined) with the slick paper on top. Technique-wise I am still winging it. So I can't be too helpful there. I'll mix in a little medium occasionally to make the paint more transparent. Its Liquitex Matte Medium (I also have Gumbacher Slowblend and I can't tell the difference between the two) I also sometimes spritz the surface with some water. In actaulity there really isn't much blending going on...
Here's a detail from that painting (http://www.ericdeschamps.com/ill/imgs/ForestWings_detail.jpg)

Im not sure if youll even read this 'cause its on the second page but anyway...
You seem to have a pretty good understanding of shading and color so that aside, I recomend working on texture. I noticed in the first picture you posted everything has the same texture. Use reference from real life to help.

hey thanks for the reply man!! I appreciate taking the time to help me with a few comments on how you painted the acrylic piece. well, however you did it, its very nice. I too am still experimenting with acrylic and have been getting some wonderful effects. I just have not really developed a "smooth" technique yet. anyway, I will try out some of those mediums. well, take care.
cheers.
