Here's a new pic i started on yesterday, inspired by a bunch of venom pics people were posting on another forum i visit. I used a ref for the pose (http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.artwanted.com/images/mb/54918-56372_thumb.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.artwanted.com/mb.cfm%3FTask%3DTopic%26Topic%3D54918%26Cat%3D6&h=200&w=156&sz=53&tbnid=sOBctZWmOVYJ:&tbnh=99&tbnw=77&hl=en&start=14&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvenom%2Bspiderman%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3 Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26sa%3DG) to get the general feel, but as you can see it wasn't a massive help.
What i'm mainly looking for is anatomy crits, feel free to drawover the image if you feel compelled. I'm fuzzy on most of what i've drawn, specifically the back, forearm and leg muscles. :^^;:
Any help would be much appreciated =)

Also, someone suggested to me that he dosent look beefed enough, do you think it could be because his head is too big in comparison to his body?

Doublepost but yeah, i've been working away at it. Still no crits on the muscle placement? =(

Make his torso and legs larger.

That would ruin the effect of the perspective though... =/
I've removed the webbing now cause i didn't like it too much, it distracted from the face and venom himself in general.
There's a bunch of other changes too that i cant be bothered to list, so i'll let the pic speak for itself.

I scanned a page from an anatomy book that I thought might be helpful to you (link (http://www.moranconcepts.com/images/venom-ref.jpg)), and here are some other photos that might help (link (http://www.tuvayanon.net/6blr.html)).
EDIT: another (link (http://egojin.whoismall.com/shop/Images/d6.jpg))

I think he looks like Carnage more than Venom. Beef him up if you want him to be Venom. The legs do look awful small, even with foreshortening in mind...
Looks good either way.

I could only see the thumbnail of the ref, but I wouldn't call someone else's picture of Venom ref, I expected a photo of a real person or something non-related to Venom, but anyway.
Venoms an alien so you can screw with the anatomy and still be alright.
Okay crits: The trapezious is one muscle, it would end at the spot where the second trapezious thing ends, opposite the deltoid on the clavicle.
On his right arm the olecranon shouldn't be visible, it would be blocked from sight by the brachioradialis. Also the brachialis is missing which would be very visible on someone this buff, which is very visible on that link by the way. That's Mike Matarazzo for anyone interested, the second guy's Craig Titus, don't know if it says that on the links.

Carnage is surrending of alot of "threads" and it covering his body..
venom have a big spider on his back-front and seem more "human"
but is still very very big.

Uh huh, i know carnage and venom apart. The earlier build i had of him was indeed much more carnage than venom, but i added a lot of muscle mass to try and get rid of that. I don't want to make him TOO ripped though, i hate that over the top look.
Armando- Thanks a lot man, that's a big help. I'm going to set to work fixing those areas asap. As for the reference, it was really just something to help me fix the pose in my mind, not a reference to look at more than say once or twice. It just helped me build the skeleton setup and concrete the pose. And yeah, it dosent get any bigger than the thumbnail unfortunately.
For the muscles themselves i've got a lot of pics on my pc that i'm referring to but you know how it is, there's never one that shows everything you want to see. I really need to practise this stuff :^^;:
Thanks a lot anyway guys, i'll have an update posted up soon.
Edit- Orcatraz: Thanks a lot dude, they help immensely. I didn't actually see your post earlier but i definately do now. Much thanks!

Venom is a bit over the top with the muscles, I mean he is alien after all.

I know you've already gotten a lot of good advice, but I'll throw in my piece anyways. (19 years of comics and what not.) Venom seems to go from Hulk's upper body to Wolverine's arms, and from Captain America's hips and upper legs to Spiderman's feet. It's a smooth progression, and it never seems like a disparity. Scott Campbell and even Liefeld draw some of the best Venoms because he's such an over the top character.

I've edited the lines to see if i could increase his "ripped-ness", basically i just transformed the head+hands to be slightly smaller. What do you think, better or worse?

Thanks a lot for the feedback so far :D

A quick update before i hit bed. Just blocking in where i want to shade to make it easier on myself when it comes to blending, what with all the crazy assed muscles everywhere.

Apologies for the double post, but i'm posting with a nice big update.

Maybe this thread could be moved by a mod to wips? Its turning into more of a progression topic now rather than a crits one.

Over the top anatomy and musculature is fine by for comic-type illustration, but it has to at least be somewhat believable.
It looks like you wrapped the clavicle all the way around his back, and his thigh muscles look completely random to me. It seems you're not going to be changing the original drawing, but I think showing a bit of ribcage would have made the body taper a bit less drastically from chest to waist, like in the ref Orcatraz provided.

Showing the ribcage would throw off the body in comparison to the sketched up background and its perspective really, we'll see when i post that cleaned up a later. I think this will be my last wip for a while, i need to do some other crap before i can get to finishing this...

Overall i'm pretty satisfied with the body as it is now. I need to work on those white areas though when i get back on it. The kneecap bugs me.
