Get a good book( i.e. Andrew Loomis. Ask around here to know where to download his books) on the matter and copy all the illustrations.

Use a mirror. You always have a head to draw because there is one attached to you. Also, if you can, have friends and family sit for you (or if they wont, draw them while they're watching TV or something). Again, look around you, there are heads everywhere and drawing them from life is going to be far more beneficial than drawing from photos anyway.

yeap ditch photos..they take your soul away (thats what i always said) hehe..loomis is an excellent book to learn to construct a head..it has good planes and simplified anatomy..practice from there..any good old master will be good to copy...look for sargeants, el greco heads ,also look at yourself in the mirror..forget for a while about your features and go for the big shape of the face and skull...oh yes and smile hehe
