The far intake is definately off...think about how low on the ship it is, on the underside of the hull. We shouldn't be able to see any of the top of that baffle. At most we'd see a bit of the harpoon like object sticking out from behind the nose cone. Check out Scott Robertsons Perspective Tutorial (http://drawthrough.com/tutorials/index.html) for some info on how to mirror an object accross an axis.

The next thing you need to think about is a light source. The lighting on this is all over, with highlights on almost every edge and no cast shadows. This really makes it hard to read the form, especially the cannon on top. It's hard to even tell if that cannon is on the top of the ship or on the far side, and this is mostly due to lighting (even a simple shadow cast onto the top of the ship and a possible reflection of it in the cockpit would help).

Explaining how to render a reflective surface, or even a matte surface, is definately beyond my capabilities. I know Scott Robertson is putting out some new Gnomon DVDs soon that cover this in depth and in a great way (I saw part of the talk he gave at LA on the subject recently). If they're within your reach financially, I'd definately suggest checking them out (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/). They're a bit pricy, and they're sort of hit and miss with how usefull they are, but I certainly think they can help out.

The muddiness looks more like because you for got to save as a high quality JPEG...
