Glutton For Santas or Santa Hunter (ok there is only one Santa - but do you KNOW it?)

It Came From The Chimney

Love Spender

Christmas Tree Inhabitant

How about Santa Claws? A new multi-use creature for cutting down xmas trees, tearing open presents, carving the turkey, scaring the in-laws. The whole works.

OR

What naughty kids should be given instead of coal in their stockings.

- Little JC in da hizzo! (if he was a creature, what would he look like?) :)
- slay bells (a play on words)
- missle toe (again, a play on words)
- cute but deadly (KIDDING!....or am i?)
- cookies and milk (this would be two creatures that work together - kinda symbiotic, but with that holiday ring)

man, brain is not working.

The Stocking Stuffer

Gift Mimic

The Coal Monster - punisher of naughty children

Mistletoe Beast

Um.. that's all I got. I like Fozzy's idea of Santa Hunter - perhaps it feeds on mall and/or street corner Santas, since the real Santa is so elusive? ;)

Ok, I just want to say that as soon as I read the topic I had an idea, but I didn't know that it wasn't really the topic.

I would suggest having the topic be just "X-mas related creature"
My idea for a creature was a creature worshipped by the Celts or other european people considered "pagans" by the christian point of view, that appears only one time of a year (christmas).

I really don't like christmas, or at least the modernized version of it, thats why I would like it to be a little more broad (like being able to draw something not so related to christian simbolisms) but thats only me whinning :P

I also like romance's idea of "Santa Claws" :)

A couple of years ago I read a an early tale of Santa Claus and I don't exactly remember where it originated, but he used to come to peoples homes on X-mas Eve with someone. An elf called Black Peter and while Santa would give gifts to the good boys and girls Black Peter would whip the bad ones. I love that story. Has anyone else ever heard of this? Anyways, maybe that would be an interesting topic.

I'm really new to this!

didn't even know it existed!! but i'm very excited!!

idea:

Santa messes with genetics to make elves more efficient...but something went horribly wrong...

or

Santa Beast, conqueror of the arctic land, demonic warlord and ruler of the north pole, Elf slave driver.

I really like the Black Peter idea as well, I've heard a similar story but I cannot for the life of me remember it.

Ah yes, the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future. Probably my favorite episode of that show.

The elf-based ideas all sound interesting, but they'd probably be better suited for the ChOW than here. There are a lot of good ideas here, but it's probably best to keep them as vague as possible to ensure that we get a wide variety in the entries. Of the ideas presented so far, I think that Stocking Surprise or Santavore would work the best, since both give a general direction without limiting the possibilities for the creature's design.

But that's just my opinion, disregard it if you wish.

I like the idea of Santa Claws, but what does it mean? A non-humanoid non-character with a resemblance to Santa Claus?

romance
December 18th, 2005, 02:48 PM
infinitemonkey - i don't think it has to resemble Santa in any way. If the name Santa wasn't in front of Claws, the creature would have no link to the 'holiday'.
And by 'holiday', I mean economic event.

algebra
December 18th, 2005, 04:27 PM
The embodiment of the christmas spirit, maybe?

Probably a bit too open-ended though...

infinitemonkey
December 18th, 2005, 11:46 PM
romance: What makes it holiday-themed then? Defeats the point if all you have to draw is something with claws.

romance
December 19th, 2005, 12:57 AM
infinitemonkey - perhaps the creature is used, or does something, during the holiday. Maybe it carves turkeys (and/or hams), opens gifts, cuts down christmas trees, etc... Although, it could always have a few ornaments hanging off it as well.

The creature may not even have a purpose. Maybe it has a motiv, like reindeer killing or elf tossing.

This stuff is about using your imagination. The name Santa Claws is just to tie the creature to the holidays and give it a specific detail (the claws), from that point you have to work the rest out for yourself. :)

Look...Fozzy it is very commendable of you to watch your wording with regards to religious affiliation however, with no ill-intent, it is a common fact that the majority of this website's members celebrate Christmas, therfore I see no issue at all with this topic. The world isn't fair....anyone feeling left out please take this as an artistic exercise and nothing more. I'm atheist, in my reality God doesn't exist and we're merely infintesimally small, insignificant, and self centered organisms on a small spec of dust floating in infinite space......but I still celebrate with family and friends because thats what it is to be a part of a society. If someone would like to start another thread, perhaps in the sketchbook section for any other holday, I would gladly render a creature there too! Life is for enjoying..laugh cuz no1 gets out alive!

Open-minded and Respectfully Sincere,

Here's a thought - I'm sure many of you have already seen how the CHOW and EOW have sort of linked together, using the same backstory of little Timmy in the industrial wasteland of Santa's commercialized village. Perhaps the COW could join in on it as well by making the topic a creature that resides in this frightening scenario. It might be kinda hard to fit a creature into such an industrialized scene, but something along the lines of 'a (festive?) beast of burden used in Santa's factories' might work.

But then again, using a topic with a detailed backstory might be going against COW protocol. Either way, it's just an idea.

Let's face it, Santa is a busy guy. Even with all his elves helping him in the production, sorting and wrapping of the presents, he still has a huge undertaking. Namely, the making of The List.

Here's where my idea comes in:

The All-Seeing-All-Knowing Judge of Naughty or Nice

This creature is an ancient being that has the ability to "see" through the eyes of all children. It's infinite wisdom in matters of ethical actions and celestial computational powers help it tabulate each child's resulting verdict. It then imparts this knowledge into Santa via telepathic communication. Not only that, but it creates a rift in the space-time continuum around Santa to allow him the time to create the list. If not, it would take Santa 10 of our years to jot down everyone's name!

So, what do you guys think?

infinitemonkey
December 19th, 2005, 11:36 PM
digitalmar: I like it (I also suggested something similar) but your description is too specific for my liking.

cgfuller: I'm also an atheist, but there's a difference between recognizing that there are other holidays (not all of them religious) and deChristianitizing Christmas. Maybe I missed a post, but I didn't see anyone crossing that line in the snow. The closest I saw was criticism of how commercialized the holiday is.

Anyway, my vote goes for Santa Claws (as long as it has something to do with Santa, the name is the name for a reason) or the suddenly overwhelming surge in support for the List creature.

I really like the ones that involve a creature that pulls Santa's sleigh. Rudolph's Replacement, or something. That's the direction my vote goes.

I think Santa Claws sounds too much like it's asking for a humanoid.
