LEAD CONCEPT ARTIST

Job Purpose:
Lead a team responsible for producing artwork that inspires and informs game design and the project team. Taking direction from the Art Director the Lead conceptual designer and his/her team will create artwork which defines the design, aesthetic and function for various project elements. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team and contributing to the creation of original artwork for game production and for use in game design documents and promotional material.

Major Responsibilities:
• Work with Art Director and Assistant Art Directors to design specific game elements and settings in regards to both their aesthetic qualities and functional needs
• Work closely with Project Leads to develop concept artwork that defines the overall look and art style for the game
• Organize conceptual art reviews for the concept art team, the art team and project leads.
• Create documentation that supports conceptual design goals and directions
• Assign and track tasks given to the conceptual art team, including contractors
• Assist in the creation of production illustrations and model sheets for project assets
• Meet project deadlines / milestones, as set by project leads, and the production department
• Actively Participate in concept art and project meetings
• Excel as a team player, striving to maximize team / department performance
• Perform special projects as assigned
• May be asked to help create textures, matte paintings or skyboxes

Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience working on at least 4 CG entertainment products, game concept work experience desired
• A portfolio demonstrating outstanding drawing and fine art skills. May include:
• Figure drawing, illustration, painting and sculpting with a strong emphasis on environmental design both interior and exterior.
• Adaptability to various genres and styles
• Texture maps
• BFA strongly preferred
• Strong Photoshop / Illustrator skills with some knowledge of 3D modeling a plus
• Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of self-direction and motivation
• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
• Previous lead experience and asset
• Must be receptive to art direction and perform well within a collaborative team environment.
• Must be responsive to deadlines and work well under pressure
• Must be willing to work overtime if required
• MMO Gaming knowledge an asset
