I know this isn't a concept but this thread inspired me to do an imp. So, the other night I decided to do a little speed modeling and try for more of a platform style character. This took me 3 hours to model and UV. I'm extremely happy with the way it turned out so I'm going to skin and animate the guy once I have some time. I might even do a series of these little guys as he was extremely fun to make.

Having scanner problems, but was able to dig up this old thing. It was originally designed as an album cover, but ended up as a promotional poster for a band called Pervert on a tour back in '94. Done with an airbrush and acrylics in 15 minutes. I was paid $300. Got me into a better class of air compressor. I will try to get new material up asap, I have a computer tech friend looking into my scanner conflict.

Just a quicky - more of a doodle really

A demon only visible through X-Ray. The demon itself is totally non-original generic crap. But i was thinking about how demons would be visible and if the 'demon world' is totally separate from our own (...hypothetically of course...) and about new types of demons (ok, we have seen the fire and ice demons and whatever but how about radiation demons and biohazard demons? concrete demons?) well then i got up with the x-ray demon. He'll zapp you with a lethal dose if you're not nice to him.

I find it extermely interesting that most people consider demons to be humanoids. It's even more obvious in this X-ray painting where the anatomy is really analogous to our own. Not a criticism but an observation. I assume it's because of the fallen angel parable, but I'm not sure that Lucifer and demons are necessarily from the same "crop" so to speak. After all, there are many circles in Hell.

Then, I think of some of Lovecraft's creatures. Some you can't even represent due to the theoretical multiple dimensions they live in, totally unconceivable visually.

Could be a great challenge, though

I find myself ashamed to be stuck in the humanoid rut when i did the doodle above. Lack of imagination i guess.

It's the same thing as with aliens i guess. Even Alien has a quadruped body layout and is earth-like.

I think it goes beyond the explanation you give, i think it's just plain difficult for most people (including me) to go away from humans easily, whatever they draw (orcs, monsters, aliens, demons, robots, ... they are all mostly humanoid in layout)

Oh, I think it definitively goes beyond that simple explanation, Erik, you're right.

I would, however, remind you all that the most wonderful shapes and interesting "things" are found in Nature. Check insects, very small animals, underwater creatures, little organisms and blow them up: there's you demon :)

Lichens, mushrooms, wildflowers when zoomed upon can reveal amazing shapes and forms. Trees, birds, mammals, single-cell organisms. If you stop and look, you WILL see things you've never seen before, all extremely inspiring!

Hello. I just couldn't resist the urge to post in the demons thread any longer! These are from awhile ago, when I was sketching a monster-a-day on yellow post-its during downtime at my day job to ensure that I drew something everyday. I was of the same mind as tegehel in trying to vary their anatomy and keep them from being too humanoid; in retrospect I was only partially successful but hey, they were fun; maybe I'll revisit them and try speed painting one a day while trying to get familiar with Painter 8. Anyway, on to the lil demons! More to come.
