Hey all!
Here's the latest thing I've finished in sculpey a while back and since I've been pimpin' it around the net I thought I'd post it for comments. Click the pic for more shots.

Awesome job man! this looks really good. I would add more texture to the legs and abdomen of the spider if it isn't baked yet. Awesome job though man...do some more!

real nice - how'd you get sculpey to finish so smooth? Is there an armature for those legs, guess there must be. Great detail, I'd love to see concept sketches if you have any

Hey thanks everybody!
There is an aluminum armature in the torso and arms. The legs I sculpted using an epoxy clay that comes in two parts and hardens after you mix them together. I sculpted one set of legs and made a mold then cast the remaining legs in resin.
I guess I worked on the whole thing a few hours at a stretch over a month or so. I wish I'd kept better tabs on that. Since the idea was to make it a kit eventually I sculpted all the parts individually and then assembled it for the photo. I worked straight outta my head on this one, no prelims or anything.
Smoothing sculpey is a pain but there's a couple of tricks to it. I use a mix of clay (1lb pink super sculpey + 2oz white sculpey III + 2 oz black scilpey III) to get the details to show up. After smoothing as much as possible, I take a brush and 91% isopropyl alcohol and work out any fingerprints or rough spots. If neccessary, I'll go back and sand it after it's baked.
Thanks for all the comments! :D

Amazing!:) I love that you show your steps...something I have yet to do with any of my stuff. I love it...just love it. I was going to ask the size of it, but noticed that a 12" ruler is placed in that one pic. I've been down on myself lately, and haven't been sculpting. (I'm too hard on myself, and have hit a wall so to speak) This is very inspirational, and I need that right now. (So thanks for posting it) I hope I can come to you if I ever have any questions.;)
