I'm looking forward to the movie! I expect it to be awesome and the early reviews are sounding good...I've been thinking about a Kong scene for some time and finally got to it! I wanted to capture the ferocity and power of Kong. If you look closely you can see Ann in the trees at the top right...Painter and PS at 5 hrs or more.

Please let me know your thoughts!:yayca:

Nice work! A little dark maybe, but... You got a lot of strength and action in this one. Well done.

Looks great.
But there is something about the pic. i get a under water feeling.
Maybe you should workout the rex more.
But great work though. And i like Ann is in the trees.

Cool image. I'd say drool and saliver in Kongs mouth, and a rim light, to really cut out his silhouette and form. Looks sweet as :)

The top arm... I think it needs to look more like a grip. The bottom arm looks great, but I think the top could show more power. It kinda looks like he's trying t push down the top of the mouth o_o

I saw the same thing.
Looks as though he's pushing the mouth closed for some reason.

I'm not sure how to go about fixing it though. Just letting you know it's there.

Recently I've been working with a synthetic decking material made of saw dust and plastic that replaces the Red Wood on your pario deck. It's called Trex Decking.

SO...

When I saw this title I naturally envisioned King Kong shredding up my costomers Patio Deck.

But I found a better picture instead. Nicely done!

I think you need to sharpen it up a little more. The Rex's head seems too dark, and also it seems that Kong is trying to rip the Rex's jaw open but I think that to get that much blood goin', the jaw would have to be open wider.

I'd suggest a few shafts of sunlight breaking through the foliage, to give a bit more authenticity to the setting. Other than that, top notch!

Thanks for the comments and crits folks! Azeria: Thats something Im trying to get away from (cartoony) I'ld like to get more sophisticated but I do enjoy cartoonish styles. Julianna: Too much blood eh? I added it at the end and I do tend to get carried away with the gore... Everyone else thanks I appreciate the input.!

hehe, nice stuff Mike! Love the rendering as always...one crit is about the shadows and overall color scheme...it looks too dark and too much gray/black areas in the scheme...how about shifting the dark areas to a greenish tone, this way you would increase the jungle environment and give the whole image a unity in colors...

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but the scribbly marks on the hand on the lower jaw cause that hand to not look as complete as the other one, but overall very cool. I love the eyes in particular. Definitely my favorite scene in the old movie. I hope they have something similar in the new one. *crunch!*

ah, well perhaps a good set of darker values would be suitable. lookin gat the fur of Kongs coat, you can see that the thiness and the white glare of the strokes (and how painted some of them appear) are what boost that cartoony/ficticiousness. Thouh the expression on his face is also rather out here, at the same time, darker colors/values can do well with this. Perhaps making his coat thicker, blacker, along with various other prtions of his body to give us a real dramatic feel for the painting. This goes, too, for the T-Rex. One of the things that got me about him was his eye. It looks lifeless, grey, and plastique. Though kong is, ofcourse, killing him, still, it seems more fake than dead. Try using some yellow tones/details for give us a more reptilian feel to him, as well as articulating on his skin/body, showing us skars, creases, etc... Its a great shot, and has so much potential. These are just observations that could help you.
