Hi everybody. I am just wrapping up my first semester at FIT for Illustration. I'd like to work freelance doing games, book covers and wizards of the coast type stuff one day. Anyway, here is some recent personal works from me that I really need crits for. Please share some good crits if you see something I can improve on, I'm open to everything. Here goes.

1. Character Illustration

of all the pics with colour I like #3.

YOu def. gotta practise painting without lines. That one is your weakest.

I like them most of them, and the lines look ok to me, i'm not sure about the last one though.

Number 3... I can't really tell under which angle we're seeing this character, but if beneath him is the ground, how the hell does he hang on there? That 'curtain' must be really stiff to support a man's weight in horizontal position.

Looks good overall (better than myself, of course) but I'd say that some of your anatomy needs practice. The guy in #2 looks like his foreground shoulder is disjoint, as is the elbow.

I think you're capturing a desire for "drama" and you show a great deal of potential. Likely, other people in your class are interested to look at your work?

Just keep practicing! You're on the right track!

Thanks for the thoughts everyone...

To otherside, I pose a question to your crit. How can we be so sure I am meant to work without lines? I was considering the fact that maybe some people just aren't meant to abandon lines. I say this because I recently read a biography on Egon Schiele. When he went to the art academy in Vienna, they tried to get him to paint in the classical style, but his work suffered. When he eventually rebelled and went back to his own style, which was predominantly beautiful linework, that is wen his greatest works were created. Just a thought, although at the same time I suppose at this stage it can't hurt to try to abandon them for a few pieces.

Pixel8, I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but no, nobody in my class really enjoys my work.

Furthermore, and this is just a thought, but why are my topics constantly moved to the sketches forum? Most of these pieces took at least 3 hours to complete, some of them about 8 hours each. Is it just something about the quality of work? I'm not insulted, rather a bit confused on what standard ca.org is trying to place on their finished works forum.

More crits will be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone so far.
