Hi guys and gals,

This is my first post, even though ive been a member here for a year. And what better way to introduce myself then to dump some artwork ive been doing. Here is a series ive been working on for around a year now. i work REALLY slow so i dont have alot to show. Some background on this seris, it is based on chinese mythlogy. where four dragons rule the sea (north east south west) and has an army of sea creatures to protect them. k here are the images... hopefully i dont screw this image tag thing up...

These are drawn in pencil then inked and scanned and colored on photoshop. some of them are not colored yet and i dunno if ill get time to get to them. I wanna be a character concept artist for video/PC games. if anyone that is commenting already has my dream job, please tell me what i need to do to improve my images specificly for that career choice.

i understand i will need to work alot faster. and learn to paint with photoshop better... when my christmas break comes around ill try and follow the many digital painting tutorials on this site.

thanks in advance

I really enjoy these. They're a lot of fun and have some real thought to design in them. I could see them as characters in a children's TV show or game (except that these are a lot more detailed than you'd be able to get away with in some mediums).

That said, my only crit is that a year is too long. These are fantastic for your portfolio and sure to get your foot in the door--but you need to be able to keep a job by doing work at a fast pace. It been my experience that employers will ask you how long it takes you to do things. Try to do some speed sketching...or enter into the daily/weekly sketching communties below.

Really, good stuff. Thanks for posting. :)

Great stuff! Nice job on the inking--very clean, stylized lines. I like the way you've colored the pieces, as well. Not plasticky-smooth, but blended enough to please the eye. Only real crit is you need to work faster!

i like your work alot. its cartoony but also shows some anatomy influences so its also sound there. good combination of both cartoony and serious.

these are very nice and definately belong right here. I really like the stone border with the red orb. I think, if you manage to work faster, you will find work in the field you want to be in. From what I've picked up in my time being here, you'll get a better chance at a position in the gaming industry if you can several things well, like concept, texturing and creating 3d models.

Thanks for the comments guys.
when i said it took me a year to do these, might have been a little misleading. this seris is not the only artwork i did. and i have hwk as well.
on average i think i spend around an hour doing research and reference images. 8hrs on pencil, 8hrs on ink. 12 hrs to color. and probaly a few more hours to fix up this and that. but yes even counting these numbers i know im still WAY too slow.

its definately the way i work. i draw the pencil, then i ink it wit a fine ink tib. then i erase the pencil. and ink it AGAIN adding more line varation... so basicly i draw these each 3 times T.T (i cant ink with line varation right on the pencil, because when i erase the pencil, the eraser picks up the ink and make all the image look very gray and not black)

i am in fact going out to buy a light box on monday, that would allow me to skip the fine line ink, and just directly put the pencil under a new sheet of paper and ink it with all the line quality i need.

and i think as i become more confident with my work, i can go and directly use ink.

thanks again for comments, keep em coming=)
