here's a picture i'm working on right now. it's for myself, and basically practice with photoshop to get my skills in ps going somewhere.
i'm leaving it for a while cuz i don't really have a clear idea what to work on right now.
let me know what you think of it

GAH!
Your sizes are all off mate.
The backbreather is kicking it old school, the packs arnt that tall, they top breather comes up to the middle of their helmet max.
The pads are too far up as too are his arms, the arms are too bulky and not really long enough in in the right position.
The chest plate has been squashed up too much and isnt wide enough.
The head is too small and the breather mask just looks dodgy, his head looks like it belongs to a terminator more than a regular marine.
And the plasma gun... Well its tiny and the cooling coils are far too small.
:)
Hope that helps.

Is that a human?
If not.. then I dont think the sizes are off..
and even if it IS a human.. I dont see why future marines can't wear stuff that size.. I've never really read a future space marine handbook so I wouldnt know if the sizes are messed up or not.. :)
over all.. great concept..

well, i know the proportions are off. i overexxaggerated everything because i like to imagine these marines as HUGE!!!
so i played around with the measurements. especially on the plasma gun. cuz i like it's design, i just needed it to be a little bigger.
with the suit being this big i believe he looks more impressive
you might be right about the breast plate there mr.mag. but it doesn't look off to me...
i dunno, i just find him looking more impressive this way.
i don't know if he's necessarily human, i just wanted him to look scorged and demonic. maybe he is under the enchantment of a chaos god, or maybe the glowing eyes could be the side effect of some rite or something
keep em coming.
would like to also know what people think of my technique, i don't have any illusions about having a style yet, just not enough experience painting these past 5-6 months

Hehe:D wsup Leroy?
First things first: Really impressive, please don't let this one die.... I don't know that much about Space Marines, and if some things are of proportion.... I don't really care, the whole pose and figure looks very impressive as it is.....
Maybe I'm completely wrong:D , but it seems as if your stuck at the final step wher eyou really give that extra definition to forms by adding more contrast.
when I get there myself I just start experimenting with shadows, colors (Warm versus cold.), and adding lines.
This is something I am really strugling with my self, but the best thing to do is to just do it, after all, its Photoshop, you can allways undo right?
Hope this helps;) ....

Well as it is a warhammer 40000 space marine then yes it has to adhear to certain rules.
And spacemarines arnt that huge, they are only 7 ft tall.

i'm not going to make a big discussion out of this, because it doesn't really matter, and i don't really care.
if you truly find his size that bothering, i find that too bad. but i like to imagine marines big. They are supposed to be the toughest fighting machines in the universe. They may be "only" 7ft tall, but my picture doesn't suggest anything about length.
if think there are certain liberties an artist can take and i took em. if you want to really help me, please talk to me about technique and painting quality. one of my best friends is a manager to a games workshop store, and he thinks it looks just fine.
apart from that the black liberary has illustrations depicting marines even bigger than this one.
i'm not too big on time at the moment, so i don't really have time to finish it right now. thanx for all the replies however.
cheers,
leroy

well personally to me it looks like on of the Mondochewons off of the fifth element. except with not as much detail. It need some lighting work and it should turn out pretty good.
