View Full Version : Do you get permission from clients to post your work?

Hey all.

I have a general industry question: When you're creating illustrations from a client and you'd like to post them for feedback or fun, under what circumstances do you do it? Do you wait until they're published? Do you ever ask for explicit permission? Or do you just assume it's okay since this is a relatively closed community?

Thanks to you if you have the chance to answer. And sorry if this question has been asked and answered before. A few simple searches didn't turn anything up.

if youve signed an NDA you can be sued if you display it without there permission.
anyway,, just to be safe, always ask permission.

I wouldn't ever bank on the nature of a forum being a closed community. The design world is remarkably small, and you'd be surprised at how quickly you can gain a bad reputation for breaching an NDA.

Stuff like that will send your career down the crapper permanently.

The bigger the company, the bigger the legal department.

Thanks for the replies. You both make good points. I hadn't yet posted an image that was made under contract. And I guess I won't without getting permission first. :)

It's just that I've seen a number of people posting images from products that aren't yet published. I'm guessing they all asked their clients first. I'll give it a shot and see what they say.

Thanks again.
