yes. 3dbuzz is good. You should also check www.3dtotal.com. And you could do a google search for "3dstudio max tutorials".
I also suggest that you pop by the site of this cool guy that goes by the name of ben "poopinmymouth" mathis. He has some sweet tuts on his page, www.poopinmymouth.com.

I am currently in the process of watching the Maya tutorial videos, but what is a good Maya forum (or just 3d modeling site in general with a good forum)?

I used 3D Studio MAX back in its Dos days, and i'll have to say it is a pretty darn good program, even way back then.
But these days i use Linux as my desktop, and eventually ended up replacing alot of the software i used with free alternatives.
Now for 3D, i use Blender. http://www.blender.org
I got to say this program has always continued to impress me, although the intial learning curve is a killer.
The community mainly hangs out at http://www.elysiun.com
Have fun. =)

CGTalk has a pretty active Maya forum, use the search button though or risk being shouted at.
