Hej!
You can get financial aid from CSN, so it's not impossible to studie outside sweden.
I'm thinking about going for a school in another country, no schools here have cought my eyes. There are some schools like Umeå Konstshögskola or Designhögskolan in Umeå.

Tack för svaren!
the problem if even if i could study in for example the states, i could only afford a year and it would be like a fast shortened course, i want the full package.
Pencilator: What schools are you looking at?
Timpaatkins: Thanks, going to check them out, Why should i stay away from Berghs? :P

Cause it was shit (when I went there, 03/05), hehe. I did the Media Design program, was very dissapointed. Empty weeks, crappy assignments, no respons from the faculty etc etc. Contacts were good though. It could be a bit better this year , when they have Pålle as head dude.

You should get money from CSN, could be some other rules if you're not a Swedish citizen but I don't really know :O
Anyways, go check on Nyckelviksskolan and Nackademien. Short programs, not sure about Nackademien, but Nyckelvik. is pre-studies (you work on portfolios to be able to apply for "real" schools).
Anyway, be sure to post more examples of schools. More alternatives the better!
I'm applying for Nyckelvik. next year, and gonna try for the big ones in America after that.

Cool that more people joined in :D
I'm looking at some fine art schools here in europe, Carl Dobsky told me about Florence Art Academy. And I've meet a person from ArtCenter and talked about what I needed in my portfolio to get in there. But that was almost like a year ago, don't know if I want to go there. It's hard to chose ONE school to attend.

Yeah i like where this is going, i want to attend a school where i can train myself in the basics of traditional drawing and digital (if possible), im attending only 17 still in the "Gymnasium" studying Graphical Communication which is more for commercial, packaging ,prints and design.
So i want the school to have art as the main thing and not to much abstract design or simplicity stuff.
Mattias Snygg told me that he went too "Göteborgs Konstskola" among others. (http://www.mattiassnygg.com/index.php)
Ill see if i can find a link later on

I'm attending a Art and Form program in the Gymnasium. It's total crap. The focus on the "spritual" part of art. Bullshit. And the teacher's doesn't engage in the students intrest. Can't wait until I'm finished. Half year left now.
Lazy: Graphical Communtication doesn't sound to bad :) But I know what you mean.
I want to attend a school where I can take the basic stuff to an advanced level and have a steady base to go anywhere.

I coulndt draw ANYTHING when I decided I wanted to be an art director in advertising, so first I went to Paris for 2.5 years, and studied a foundation year at Lesag Ecole superieur des arts graphique, a very good school with a extremely tough foundationyear, focused wholly on traditional daring and painting (gouache and only gouache the first year). unfortunatly my gf left me 2 months in, and we continued living together and I was COMPLETLEY fuckd up for like 2 years, so I couldnt focus on my art at all... Fuckin women, another story anyway.

Small hi-jack in the thread, but does anyone know any specific one-year educations in Sweden or perhaps Norway/Denmark?
I think I need another year before college studies, and I'm not sure I can get into Nyckelvik (according to the guy I spoke to the other day, it was very hard to get into the class).

Hey, has anyone of you swedes gone to school in canada or USA? Like is it possible to start on a bachelor of arts in say Sheridan and get loans from CSN?
Lazy
November 25th, 2005, 02:58 PM
Yeah i think its possible but we dont get much financial support for the massive cost and it is impossible for us (or atleast me) to fund 4 whole years, so it would be some kind of special 1 year only (want the whole package).
Whats the deal with Nyckelvik?, anyone want to explain, do they help you fund or something?

They take 9500 SEK for every term (two terms), and I think you can borrow most of that money, or all of it from CSN or somewhere.
It's a school, one year. KY (kvalificerad yrkesutbildning, fast studieförberedande), for one year.

Hej alla svenskar, and everybody else!
My husband and I are opening a new art school in Sweden focused on training students to draw and paint realistically using traditional techniques of the Old Masters. The school will open in October of 2006. We have been teaching students in the US for over three years (Pantura Studios) and are now relocating to Stockholm. Here is our web site: http://www.atelierstockholm.se. Once we get set up, we will be seeking CSN approval so that students will have the option of taking loans for the tuition cost, and there will also be a few scholarships available (for full year tuition and also partial tuition). Check out our website and see what you think, and of course, email us if you have any questions.
I just want to say that I see a lot of myself in reading your posts. I’m from Sweden, and I always wanted to paint in a realistic way and struggled for years without any help. No school was offering what I was looking for and many even seemed against it, and I felt very isolated and alone (this was before the internet!). Then I studied at the Florence Academy of Art (where I met my husband) and also with Odd Nerdrum – a perfect combination of strict technique and creative imagination.
If you want to learn to draw and paint well realistically, I think the best option by far is to go to a private atelier somewhere. Public schools just don’t teach those skills.

w00t!
This school sounds really interesting, I'm so calling you in a couple of days :)
Really interesting with the traditional ways, but do you completely rule out all digital painting?
yaya. too late, gotta sleep some and come up with more questions before I call :)

Lazy- We will up and running in Oct. of 2006, so we’ll be there when you graduate. You can download an application from our website to get an idea of what kinds of things we ask our applicants. Most important is a strong desire to learn and improve.
MorteM- You would be able to use your digital work in your creative and imaginative assignments at the school, but digital painting is not something we teach. We focus on teaching traditional, skillful drawing and painting by hand. Of course, the skills and techniques you would learn would also improve your digital painting results.

This sounds great Pantura!
The main reason why i am asking is that i am not going a art-specific line right now, well a little art and design influence maybe because i am going to "Mediegymnasiet" studying "Graphical Communication".
But i have an extreme will for learning and improving!
And i believe i can compile a nice portfolio to send to you later on!

Pantura: Hi. This sounds very intresting. I've been in contact with Florence Art Academy for a while now. I ahve been thinking about going there after school. But I think I'll have a look at you homepage.
And that you're opening now when I graduate sounds very promising.

Hello, lazy, Im currently a first year at HDK in gothenburg. Just want to tell you that its not about the school, I realised this after I finally got in. If you are motivated and draw/paint/observe all of your spare time, you will get miles ahead of the people in school.
