any forums problems?

we are in the midst of adding new tech to the forums and updating the code. if you encounter any problems with the forums (profile gallery and pictures not working for example), please let me know here so i can get them fixed. I am unsure of all the bugs currently and would appreciate any input on this as we finish up the upgrades.

i'm encountering a problem while logging out. something like "error occured while logging out. clike here to log out." when i click i'm stilled seen as logged in. then click log out a second time to REALLY log out :)

something i'm getting is that when i click on my name at the top to go to my profile, i get that "undergoing maintenance" page. However, i noticed that the URL has a server number rather than conceptart . org in it. If i replace the numbers with a regular URL, it works. This has been the case for at least the last few days, not sure how long total.

Is the page completely finished loading when this is happening? Sometimes dynamic javascript functions like that won't work until the page is completely loaded. And with the extreme slowness going on (and the number of posts in that forum a lot of times) they could be related.

P.S. Site is slow. ;)

yeah...

the prob was our coder upgraded the vbulliten forums without testing it fully. pontemonti is back on it now and knows exactly what to do to solve this stuff.

ponte is my hero.

thnx for the input...if anything is found, this thread will help us get it fixed.

If you press 'search' in an active thread it'll work, but not Lounge....Possibly other Catagory Forums too?

The only real problem I've seen since the slow downs started is that my posts are about 37% less funny. Maybe Ponte could make a couple more adjustments?


Actually, things seem to be running much smoother today. Thanks Jason and Ponte and all the other internet versions of the cobbler elves who rush into the system at night and fix everything. It is much appreciated. :yayca:

Custom User Title Bug

I was changing my custom title of "Leader of the Registered Users" to "Ex-Leader of the Registered Users" in the User CP. After changing it, my custom tile reads as "ΦΦΦΦΦΦ of the Registered Users". It seems the word "Leader" comes out as "ΦΦΦΦΦΦ". I reset it back to the default.

I don't have problems with the forums but my PM lists 3 unread even though I've gone thru all of the messages. I think it had something to do with not sending a reciept to the sender.

I've noticed that when i enter a thread, it takes some time before the quick reply part, and everything else under the last post loads. Sometimes this can take quite some time, and its very annoying if i wanna quick reply to something.

I've been getting the maintinence page when I try to access my user profile through the link at the top right of the page. Any other link to my profile works fine.

The same problem, I can't make my avatar being seen, and the avatar of normal size 100x100. some strange little things with PM, like I don't know now if my letters were received or sent. Can't see a profile of users when I click at their avatar in my or any other thread. Rating feature never works.

when i type in a quick reply, like this one, and press "post", the status bar starts going up slowly, then stops at around 25%, and the status bar at the bottom of my explorer window says "done, but with errors on the page".

If i click back, then refresh, my post shows up correctly tho.

which points to an error-ridden page. If you get an activation link, or instant reply notice via e-mail, you get this domain, which you can later substitute with www.conceptart.org, and only then it will work, as in:

and then you manually have to change the URL for:

I just want to second miljenko on the e-mail notification thing. For the longest time I thought that the forum was still down. Until I looked more closely at the URL.

This is actually making me visit conceptart.org less. Because I'm watching several sketch threads. Whenever I get an notification mail from them I visit the other parts of the forums at the same time. With the links not working I sometimes hesitate because I can't be botherd to retype the url for each and every mail.

(Yes I KNOW, I'm lazy as hell! :P )

CA doesn't work with my airport wireless anymore!!!!!!!!!!! There aren't enough funny emoticons in the world to stress what a huge problem this is for me. I thought the site was just down for the last 48 hours as I kept getting "the server is not responding" error messages. Every other site on the web works flawlessly...for some reason CA's new servers just don't seem to like my airport. Please please try to resolve this asap!

JeffNYZ: I would say that the airport (Mac airport express, right?) problem is probably on your side. You don't have some strange firewall settings, a parental filter or something similar installed? Try clearing you cache in your webbroser (it's a long shot, but still). If it works with the ethernet cable plugged in and not when you're using your WLAN then something is definatly strange on your side. Try restarting your access point/router/gateway.

Sometimes those things get some kind of hiccup and just freaks out. I've had my WLAN go down many a time with the router not responding (bad hardware) that could only be resolved by unplugging the power supply causing a "hard reset".

Zaph - Yep, first thing I did was restart everything on my end...modem, router, airport express. Cleared cache, tried 3 different browsers, etc. Indeed, the site works when the ethernet cable plugged in, but not when I'm using the wireless. I had something similar happen a while ago when Photobucket switched servers...suddenly I was getting "server not responding" error messages no matter what I did, though in that case the ethernet cable didn't work either. Anyway, the fact that CA just switched over their servers and suddenly this problem has popped up seems too great a coincidence. In any event, I've done everything I can think to do on my end, so I'd appreciate it if someone on CA's end can see if they can figure it out!

JeffZNY: Ah well there seems to be some kind of DNS problem by your description then. If it is, it should resolve in a day or two. Some ISP's DNS-servers are slow to update. But I can't make any sense of the fact that you're using one isp and getting different results on your ethernet contra wireless. Up to the router/gateway/modem/whatever it's the exact same traffic. The only difference after that is how it is transported to you computer.

Now, your computer may or may not have different settings for wireless and ethernet. I'm no mac wiz (I use XP) so I can't tell you where to look. But if you have been poking around with networkconnections before, look in your connection settings. You should try to find out if you running on DHCP (dynamic ip adress) or have you detailed your ip-address, gateway and DNS settings? Are you using some kind of login service or not? If it is the latter, are the DNS settings the same for both your ethernet connection and your wireless connection. If they are not, that's probably where the problem lies. Make sure they have the same DNS-settings (use the ehternet one).

Zaph - Yes, well the mistake is to try to make sense of any of it, because you'll drive yourself insane. The machines aren't going to battle us out for supremacy of the earth, they're just gonna wait til we can't take it anymore and do ourselves in. I started using the RSS as well. I'm glad that you included that, very convenient. Only trouble is that I see that it lists all new posts, all forums included (I think at least). Wouldn't it make better sense to have one RSS feed for each forum and then perhaps one top level feed for all of them? Just a thought.

Clicking on 'last post' thread titles in the main forum is bringing up the Forbidden message. Can work around it by clicking on the forum first then on the thread name.

I'm having same problem as JeffZNY originally posted. When I try to access www.conceptart.org I get the following message:"The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings."I called tech support at my ISP and they walked me through clearing my DNS cache but I still couldn't log onto www.conceptart.org. I cleared all temp files, started & restarted my computer, and went through every other fix my ISP techie could think of, all to no avail. He had no problem logging onto conceptart.org at his end, so suggested that I try logging on using http://69.16.210.25/ That worked, so I'm now accessing the site that way. As well, most avatars are not showing up and pages are loading very slowly.Any idea when the DNS and avatar problems will be fixed?

Aaaaaaand, my problem has returned...almost exactly 1 week after I had the problem in the first place. Sounds like DS and 2medusa are having similar problems as well. Again, the site works when I connect directly, but it vanishes when I use my wireless connection. And since I'm already aggravated, these missing avatars and forbidden messages are becoming more and more aggravating as well. I don't know why the forums had to be changed in the first place, but they're an absolute mess at the moment.

Tried to edit my post just now, and got a zillion Forbidden messages. Closed the browser, opened it again, and now the "edit" button isn't even working at all. Oy vey.

Anyhow, there's a new wrinkle to the problem. I tried the http://69.16.210.25/ address that 2medusa posted, and found that my wireless is able to contact this address no problem. However, this isn't all that helpful because it only takes you to the homepage...clicking on the link to the forums naturally results in the same vanishing server act.

Anyone working on this?

This seems to pop up every now and then when I go to click on ANY forum section or thread...
It just happens at random.

The sites very slow at the moment, so I haven't been able to actually check the whole thread here, but on the main conceptart.org page where you guys have the showcase of professional artist work, it hasn't been working for me for awhile now(1 month). I use Mozilla Firefox, and when I click on one of the thumbnails, for instance for your work(Jason) it just gives me a blank screen. I figure it's a firefox problem, or it was due to you folks revamping the site , but I have popups enabled and all *shrug* Also, I remember it used to work just fine while I still was using firefox.

For some reason for a month or so now alot of peoples avatars have been displaying as links whenever I view the forums. If I click on the link it sends me to their user profile page and when, after, I go back to the original thread the avatar is restored to normal (it's back to being an image). Is this a problem anyone else is having? Or is this a browser/computer specific problem?

If you go to the first page then edit page after click go advanced! You usally have to wait 5 min for each to load, after press save, and wait another 5 min and it works...

we have isolated the speed problem. there is a bug in our stats tracking software which is overwhelming the brand new servers. Our hosts are working on it and should have it solved early this week.

I have been working all day on fixing the other problems on the site. We have a couple weeks of hard work left on this. I appreciate everyone posting bugs. This helps us to know what is left to fix. Thank you.


I look forward to march when I am no longer focused on system repairs and can get back to the new tech for the site. getting close. I am looking for more php coding help. May even consider outsourcing it to india if that is what it is going to take to get it done. Finding the right PHP coders is a challenge. every coder I meet simply hates working on vbulliten. Fortunately, pontemonti is going to help us get it back working well. He maintained the forums for years now but ever since he became swamped with school, we have had a very hard time keeping things working as well as we would like. The peeps at mb hear me say "god damn i miss ponte" regularily. thank god he is going to help...cuz i do not know anyone else who is as smart or reliable at such things.

ps...everything is finally transferred to the new servers we built from scratch. there was a TON of data that all had to be backed up multiple times and then transferred. hosting is getting god aweful expensive...but once we are done it will be stable again. thank goodness.

I've been seeing a lot of links, usually sketchbook links the go to http://conceptart.org; this "logs" the user out of the new link and you won't be able to log in either. Not sure on who's end this needs to be fixed though, all that needs to be done is adding the www. Maybe it should go into the newsletter if it's only on the users end now?

I've noticed a little bug when using firefox. Sometimes when i navigate around the forums i get the download dialogue asking me if i wanna download the file "showforum.php" or something. I cant remember exactly what it was, and i cant make it happen by will.. But i'll post something a little more accurate when it happens again.

Oh, and the forums have been really slow for me too lately. (I guess you're tired of hearing this by now.. ) I'm on 1mbps dsl.

When I rename my sketchbook thread it renames the first post, but the thread topic doesn't rename. It's stuck on April. So it appears really out of date.

I have noticed the forums are running real erratic lately. Super slow alot of the time.

speed issue resolved and improving...should be smokin fast now ...barring natural disaster. So, I am hoping that some of the red x issues and the problems editing and double posting are solved now that the new servers are not overwhelmed.

Sometimes the quick edit seem to freeze up. When I click nothing happens (no page loading). This might be because the server is lagging. I have to click on advance editing and go from there to make it work. I'm using ff 1.5.

and then about 10 minutes ago the site dropped down to the "awfully slow" level.

something very strange happened to me a few hours back. I wrote a message in the " a little inspiration from massive black, post no 871,, and hit the post message button, but decided to edit my message. I hit the edit button really quickly, and was all of a sudden able to edit the post above me (no 870) in my panicked state I hit the forwards button again, and alas, the fun opportunity didnt show its self again. Is this something that has happened to others?

Not a bug, but a feature request: can we get the lounge to have the youtube player enabled? So instead of just a link people can see a still frame preview of the video and they can decide whether to launch it or not without having to leave CA.

(I've tried youtube's embeddable code and this ... to no avail.)

Sometimes it doesn't let me see images.... usually only when their MB images though but sometimes when I refresh one image will show up but not others. Really odd and I even looked at the code to see if I could at least find URL's to the pics but they weren't on there either (look via view source)

When going in User CP page, clicking on all subscribed thread you'll get the "you've been banned" page. Nearly had a panick attack on that one.

here's a workaround i use for that cryptic error page everyone's running into. when that page is visible, you ARE logged in, but CA3 will show you & everyone else as OFFLINE. go to this page

it should bring you to your member's My Account page (the one you usually get to when logging in). bookmark that URL. use the tabs to go to your homepage. bookmark your homepage. when you log in again and get the error page, use either bookmark and you should be good to go, just remember to ignore the OFFLINE label.

i think this will only work if you're already logged in on 3.0. i logged out & tried it, and was sent to the login page, which gives that error page when my user id & pwd are entered.

it seems there's a script missing and that interrupts the normal login process and keeps anyone from being labeled as "ONLINE," although the rest of the login seems to be successful, as i can edit my pages normally, and use the rest of the site normally.

earlier on i posted a workaround. it seems that this error page pops up due to a missing script that interrupts the login process, but not fatally. afaik, when you see this page you ARE logged in to CA3. you can then go to your user homepage (if bookmarked), or to either:

to get into your CA3 user account, or the CA3 main page.

if you try to get to 3.0 from the forums, it sends you through the login process, which generates that error page. the links above should get you past the blockage.

Anyways, I am experiencig a slight problem with my "USER CP" control centre :(

I can get to my "UserCP" by clicking the link button at the top of the page, but from there I cant access my "Edit Options" section which I really need to do as I changed forum display styles a few days ago to try a different setup out, and im not liking it all, but I cant change it back now lol :(

I set my email notifications for weekly reminders, and they seem to be working alright.. most times I get a bunch of threads, though last time it updated for me (mondays it seems) I only got 2. not sure if it's because people haven't updated or if the forum is being a little slow. Also for some reason all the images are being replaced as I look at different threads; people's avatars are changing and some times just being replaced entirely by a smily or something.. and lastly I am getting alot of forbiddens when looking at this site; have to wait for each page to fully load before I can click on a link.

I had this problem a couple of days ago, I checked in with a friend who told me he could access the site no problem. I theorised that some kind of rogue cookie from the site was blocking me (it wasn't a problem with Internet Explorer 'cos I tried logging on using Opera also), so I cleared out all my internet history, cookies,temp internet pages etc..& I got logged on first time.

Now this could just have been coincidence, but if it was it's a Helluva coincidence.

Same prob here. Just today I was told there's a database error and I can't access the forum through the main page. Just as soon as I went through my history and just took out the www. in front it worked again. The whole thing.

hmmm wierd. I dont have any "ban" messages, I can add new subscriptions, edit and delete them Ive even tried unsubscribing and resubscribing, but I sitll get none. Is everyone getting their emails for subscribed threads or is this justme. Id like to know so I can look into why I wouldnt be getting the emails. Its my own email and hosting service that I pay for so theres no unknown spam blockers or anything.

no problems with the forum itself, just the 3.0 dont work properly, cant log in, and so on, exept in the group section, were Im on some wierd way is logged in , et c, I can see "my groups"

Yes, I cannot view all the images. Some of them appear as mere white dots. It definitely disrupts the enjoyment of my viewing, as well as my being able to vote fairly since I can't view all the images in thunderdomes/community activities/etc..

I'm new here and was having issues as a guest. But by what I had seen through someone's sketchbook, I thought I would join. Ever since, the issues have been more dramatic.

Except for the "ban" that some have been experiencing, I've been having:

I'm at work now.
At home I browse using latest version of Firefox on WinXPPro.
Here at work, I am using IE6 on Win2000Pro.

It seems like the forum works better than at home. Hell, I even see the child forums on the main page, which I never did at home.
But, it is "phpfox" that I am still having issues with. The problems "look" different on this machine than at home. Lots of "rooster" sketches or red x's. Have yet encountered a "forbidden" error, but alot of redirects still to a default profile? Also, "Can't open file: 'online.MYI'. (errno: 145)" whenever I login (both machines).

Where the stars deliberately removed to secure that people would pay more attention to less popular members or is it a bug?

(I miss em, great source of motivation. I think a more precise rating system would be even nicer. As star ratings usually moved between 4 and 5 stars anyways.)

403 errors abound. It seems quite random though. I'll try and view a thread, 403. Then ill go to another thread, have that work fine, and go back and try the first thread, no problem. Hm...

I got banned from subscribing for the first time today. Haven't had this problem but I see that a few others have posted they're having the same problem....I just tried to subscribe to my own sketchbook thread that I'd just started a few days ago, and I got the following vBulletin message:

You have been banned for the following reason:
None

Also when I selected the "Contact Us" link and submitted an email with the problem, I got a return email with the following:

Yeah, the search function seems hosed. The "View New Posts" is just a specific search which is why it's not working as well.

can only access any part of the forums today by using the IP numbers as the root of the URL. anything using "conceptart.org/..." gets a 404. CA3 is totally inaccessible.

addendum: not all forums are accessible even using the IP #s

I apologize if this has been mentioned. I skimme dbut couldnt read ALL replies to this thread. But it seems like throughout the weeks I have been getting less and less emails about new replies on my subscriptions. Now I don't get any at all, and havent for 2-3 weeks, not even for my own threads. Hopefully that's not too far off to fix but I appreciate all the renovations you have been making around here. CA has a great future when that's all working smooth!

Ok so it looks like Ive figured out what is causing this. I wrote my hosting provider about it to see what's wrong, indicating thaqt I dont get any subscription emails or anything. Here is the answer I got:

"The problem with the conceptart.org site is that they are sending emails from nobody@host.conceptart.org but host.conceptart.org is not a routable email domain. Our server blocks emails of this nature because they are usually spam. Many other providers will block them also so this is not just our policy. The site operator needs to have outgoing emails originate from a valid domain, for example nobody@conceptart.org would be fine. He does not necessarily have to accept emails to that address but it needs to be defined in DNS as a valid domain. "

SO my question to the admin's is is this possible to fix? Or am I just stuck and gotta try to figure out how to get my hosting provider to make the change (which is doubtful). The thing is, I also have an email through my internet provider, Mindspring, and while I will get the occasional email from this site when I test it with that email, most of them I dont get either which would lead me to believe that it is for the same reason.

With regard to the e-mail notification issue, I have adopted a different solution. I no longer request them, and have made the User CP page my default. It shows all the threads that have been updated since my last visit and now my inbox is much cleaner and my surfing much quicker (no fumbling around the e-mail site). I also just use the forum jump drop down menu to zip around.

Just a tip for those who didn't realize this function existed.
