Finally, I scanned and sorted out my stuff to show you here. Shout out to all the great people I met in Prague and thanks for convincing me to start a sketchbook. It's only fair to share my stuff with the community who has inspired me so much. I hope you will enjoy the following.

I'll start you off with some older stuff I had with me in Prague.

Hurricane: Thanks dude, was cool meeting you in Prague. Love your stuff :).

Algebra: Glad you like, I try to keep as loose as possible without starting to doodle, it gives more life to the drawing I think.

Profil: and you too man. Keep at it, your sketchbook is looking good :). I'll be doing more with that brush setup I used in the buddhamech, I like the roughness it creates.

Madplanet: thanks, ask and you shall receive, more below ..

BAKI: Thank you.

The rest of the Praha sketchbook now. Not much finished designs, more quick sketches and unfinished ideas in this dump.

yow floris... I think your book is amazing

That second pic is a really nice design, really nicely painted, especially the more spontaneous part around the legs. Also schetsen1.jpg has some original shapes, but somethimes your drawing kinda get this generic "supermechdude46" feel.. like you are just copying you saw before. Like the guy with the skull shoulderblade, how diablo2 necromancer is that?

Just saying find some shapes, design that are yours rather that someone elses.

Excellent, Floris. These works are great, I really admire the way you sketch, gestural and precise at the same time. Really admirable grasp on form. Your more finished works are really appealing too.

Very nice stuff, looking forward for more.

The thin line that you use works very well and it reminds me a lot of some of Gary Gianni's illustrations. The Shirow-esque armor suit and the Linda sketch are my favorites of the latest batch.

Whoa, that is some great stuff right there. As it's been said you have a great knack for anatomy & movement. I've just been scrolling down the page thinking 'wow, there character sketches are my favorite' and the 'actually no, these mechs are the best' (very appleseedy) and then something else will catch my eye, and round and round it goes.

Don't stop!

Heya! Cool linework going on here! I like especially the thin marker stuff - you have a really expressive line, telling a lot with few strokes. Well, there´s a lot more than few of them but that thing makes them really lively. Good going.

Would love to see you color more though since the first ones (the colored ones) are not half bad! Yes man. Bring us more.

I believe I saw you there in Praha too but just can´t figure out who you were. Well, next time I know better... :D

Jens: Hey man, thanks for the crits, man. Diablo 2? I never really played that game but yea, a skull shoulderpad is pretty cliche. I'll put more effort into discovering what my shapes are and to dodge those cliche pitfalls :).

ZebzFree: Thx, nothing more right now I'm afraid I just woke up with a hangover and haven't scanned anything new. I'll try to find some time for that soon.

bRØk3n_sPiRiT: Thank you ).

madplanet: maybe it's not clear because of the crappy scans, but most of the sketches are straight up ink. I really enjoy sketching like that because you have to become more accurate for it to work. I really notice a difference in my pencil drawings when I've been doing a lot of pen drawings first.

marioucci: such comparisons, I'm flatterd ).

jtheanswer: thank you, I really enjoyed doing the degenesis stuff, I guess it shows.

mull77: Thanks!

blog: dude, that was you?! haha, I know I should've kept notes of who I met in Prague ...

csteingart: Hey chris, thanks for dropping a note, man. It was great meeting you, I'm so bad with names, let alone nicknames, but now I know who you are on the forums ).

central: Hah, thanks!

blacky: I'm afraid I kinda lost myself in drawing the ornaments and she left before I could show it to her. Oh well..

dCepT: Thanks!

Sanby: there's always more of that in the works, I'll see if I can get some more scanned soon.

Hiipi: hey yea, I know who you were in Praha, I think, but we didnt' meet much. In this picture I'm the guy who is not the monsterhair sporting german drawingmachine: http://www.1st-floor.com/workshopsite/images/IMG_4855.jpg

Fellah: Thank you :).

styler: More inc when I get around to scanning.

I feel bad for replying without posting more work, but I had a rough night .. I'll see if I can get some more stuff online soon. Cheers,

big fan of your work, you've come a long way in a short time. mucho progresso. (comparing your first posts with these)

Hypronost, bedankt :)

Pencilator, heh guess I should've made that name tag after all. Was cool meeting you.

Hanuka, I did make some sketches for the degenesis shaman, but no time to finish em ..

Been covered in a load o school work and kinda negletted the SB. Sorry bout that. No time to scan my sketchbook but I've been participating in the Creature Design process 101 activity (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=56875) and can show you step 1 and 2.

Step one: 10 thumbnails, exploring the brief.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/krabad/thumbsweb.jpg

Step two: Thumb 8 was chosen and taking into account thumbs 3, 5, 6 and 10 which the "client" (Mike) marked as beeing interesting as well I worked out three colour variations and explored the design of thumb 8 further.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/krabad/step2.jpg

Emily picked design 3 of the above and gave some good crits to take it to step three, which is a honed and cleaned up drawing of the design. I'll post that when it's done here as well.
Cheers,

what else should i say than "bloody excellent"? hard decision between those three - i'd say the palettes in the first two are stronger than in that third. fins and legs in the third are awesome. head of the second is the best.

however, all three entries are high quality stuff.

keep it up.

Fellah, cheers.

Gloominati, welcome then, I didn't update for a bit so it got drained off page 1 fast, unless people post (which doesn't happen if I don't update, keke).

Hanuka, I like the first and third colour pallete best, the second is too monochromatic. Matter of taste of course, but the third pops the most cause of the higher constrats.

ParkerD, cheers, hope you like what I done with em in this update.

Madplanet, thx, next step below...

Pencilator, yea, I felt guilty, like I was leaving my baby sketchbook alone at home, unfed :/.

Joeri, I thought you liked the nazi-spacemarine-konan-bikini-tentacle-wolverines??!?! I did them all for you, broke my heart dude :(... :P

Cookiedough, ey ey hun, long time, glad you found your way here, thanks for the kind words ).

Right, step 3, taking design #2 from the step 3 above to a more finished painting. Some critiques will follow on it after which I'll tweak it into the final painting. Hope you like.

That's it for now, another sketchbook is lying there ready to be scanned, I'll get around to that soon enough. I'll have a look if there's any digital work worth uploading too. Been working almost exclusively traditionally the last few months, but there's still a lot that never saw the daylight.

Recursive_End, Long wait, cuz im a slacker haha, scanning is so tedious.

Cookie, thanks girl, lets get sketching some time soon, got a big amsterdam sketchgroup in the making, ill letche know

David, dude, I'm so looking forward to that.

Doyle, thank you, the pen has kept a strict monopoly on me lately, some older digi speedys below.

madplanet, I love life drawing, the naked ladys .. I mean learning anatomy and shit :P. All my recent colour work has been digital and right now I'm focussing on traditional. I wanna start doing some oil painting and break out the water paints again. I hate doing lineart on the comp, so been thinking bout scanning in some pencil/pen drawings some time and add some colour to them.

fooxoo, thanks! :D

GriNGoLoCo, bit more below, more to come soon )

liam.c Hahah thanks! The *'s kept jumping from 4 to 5, was wondering what was up with that, heh.

archipelago, i often draw with pens straight up ink, no pencil sketch, I think that influences the way I draw with pencils a lot too.

senbdoij, loose is fun )

mentler, your comments are like poetry sir, thank you - I like to beat up my drawings a bit, makes em apreciate life more

VirusArtist, thanks )

ArcoNL, dank u!

sone_one thanks, I've been thinking about what my style is and isn't, feels like there is so much more to explore and I'm still pretty reserved about it, need to beat that fear out of me.

Riiight so after all those replys I'm gonna just make a small dump here. Gonna finish up scanning another book tomorrow and I'll post it, but for now here's some speedys that I never bothered to post, cause they're never finished, very rough.

Mr.Blonde, I'm inpressed with YOUR work man, damn. Scanning is so tedious that I put it off till I filled one or two sketchbooks and do it all in one go. I'll see if I can do more frequent updates.

ArcoNL, Hartelijk dank ), playing around in PS, making brushes, discovering the program, it's great fun. I really liked the brushes I made for the sand piece, but I lost them and all other customs I made when my old computer crashed bout 2 months ago :/. Oh well, have to keep experimenting anyway.

tensai, thanks, more inks and pencils in this batch. I'm still discovering PS, it seems every time I work in a different way, the king was another experiment, glad you like.

Skeiff, cheers, I tried to use only muted colours, make the image work without resorting to flashy colours and highlights, the roman beeing an exeption.

Jens, thanks bro, looking forward to that future :)

cakeypigdog, improvement is a tricky thing, I'm glad you see it. I feel I have a lot of things to break out and improve on still. I'm not sure who you were in Prague I'm afraid, 4 hrs sleep and lots of beer a night does that to me, heh. I'll be starting internship as a concept artist in the summer, alongside my friend David, lasting till december, after that another 1,5 yrs of school, so at least 2+ yrs stil left now.

shadoman, I like making scrawly shaky lines rather then swooshing curves, makes the drawing more alive I think (and it's a good excuse for shaky drawing).

mentler, my pleasure sir, I'm imspired by you and your work, as always. Thanks for the encouragement!

WBear_Necessities, ehh thanks. HPX is cool, made a big impression on me in Prague.

Diego, thanks again

Danomight, I don't know what you can learn from my work, but advise I would give is to get comfortable with the figure and not be afraid.

Skeiff, nothing special, a Tradio (http://www.shoplet.com/office/limages/EB003740.gif) for the pens and a mechanical pencil with HB leads for the pencil works.

Mr.Blonde, sure, man. Which one you wanna do, maybe do a swap? I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with.

dCepT, thanks for the asspat

madplanet, thanks, I stopped life drawing a few months ago, hope to start again soon with a friend. It feels like I could use some fresh imput from real life again.

Just one piece today. It's been gathering dust for more then a week now, but just decided to finish it, just over two hours is pushing it for a calling it a speedy. It's a tribute to Craig Mullins, a constant source of amazement and inspiration.

Oh yeah, I got something, I already said this to ya, but work on putting feelings and emotions in your drawings. I want to see people laugh, cry, be amazed, feeling unpleasant etc. It will help you put more in your characters, help you tell the story that's behind them.

i love your building style- it's almost as though you're tracing contours of images beamed from your head onto the paper.

i seen him! i seen him draw! his head never moves! his hands are like robotic arms at them car fact'ries! he's like a drawin' machine!

anyway- i love the LotR interpretations- such a natural progression.
excellent work- i'd be intimidated further by seeing you finish your work. (cuz at least now i can at least think to myself that i've got a snowball's chance in hell at out-draw-ing you. ... speed wise. filling up the paper wise. good god i hope one of your admirers doesn't fuckin' crucify and castrate me.)

Cookie, see you do like the crotch shots, I'll do more of them, sure :P.

Zaknafein, you are correct. The perspective on the gun opening is off, we shouldn't be able to look into it this much. Don't think I'll fix it, it's not something for the folio anyway, only want "original" work in there.

Mr.Blonde, duude I love that coloring. It's cool to see how you approach it so differently then I would. I played around with some of your lines, but wasn't satisfied. Now I'm very bussy with school and a gig I'm working on (hope to be able to post that when it's done). I'll finish, I promise ).

WBear_Necessities, thank you.

Skureal, hey man, it's was very nice meeting you. Had a great time sketching in amsterdam. Wanna do a drawing colab next some time? Think it would be very interesting.

Robot, hey m8y, thanks for dropping by, agree on the crits!

yAdam, thanks, the lines form from the interaction with the paper, I haven't been able to do the same with the wacom, something about the computer feels too smooth.

Kresh, I use only hb mechanical pencil. 2h is too light to put down the lines confident enough, I think. It's not jut the pencil either, I draw a lot of straight up ink, it helps the line economy and improves the confidence to put down more interesting lines.

Hurri, I'm sorry about that, hope your nuts heal well, you need them, hah. You comming to brussel? I'm looking forward to that, there's a lot of drawing and drinking to do, I need your assistance with it.

Gilles, thanks dude, it was nice meeting you in amsterdam! I dunno what I skipped, I just draw, make a lot of mistakes and fix those :P.

Heart_X_Slayer, thanks, I enjoyed drawing the mech, never draw much of those, mostly characters lately. Maybe I'll do more of them.

Magic_Man, thanks!

Pencilator, cheers, go draw.

GriNGoLoCo, it is the gun, as noted above. Thanks for the comments.

sone_one, hah, I'm not far away from 21, it feels like I'm getting old and I have so much to learn, so much to do. It's strange but I feel like I wasted a lo t of time and now I have to make up for it.

csteingart, thanks, I will!

Aether, thanks, I try to post more, but end of school yr is in the way.

So untill now I've kept everything posted chronological with when I made it, but last saturday we had a sketchclan meet in amsterdam where I made two images. They are already posted in the Dutch Sketchgroup Meeting Sketchbook (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67890) (check it out, cool stuff inside), so It's nonsense to wait with posting em now that they are already out there.

Gilles challenged me to a Thunderdome, the first subject was a steampunk samurai, the second TD was a Norse Fish God. Others joined in too.

Norse Fish God

Life's been very bussy for me with the end of the school yr closing in and a lot of work still to be done. I'm also working on a very cool design/illustration gig which I hope I'll be able to talk/show about once it's done.

Cheers,

Floris

Pencilator, eek eek

Inkfish, I think I'll do more crotch shots, it seems a powerfull pose.

WBear_Necessities, I post most of the stuff from my sketchbooks. I leave out the really uninteresting pages, short doodles, scribbeld notes, bad ideas abbandond. Scanning is so tedious that I put it off untill I have one or two full sketchbooks unscanned and I really have to do it, hah.

Jarri, thanks

Skeiff, it becomes more comfortable, it's a question of concentration and intend too. Sometimes accurate anatomy isn't the aim of a page, distorting it, going with the flow and making interesting lines is something I enjoy doing too. When I draw in the train it's too bumpy to make anything neat anyway.

wi_2, hey man, It was nice meeting you. Don't feel worthless, it only hinders your progression. Identify the skills you want to learn, learn, live life, have fun, don't be afraid. Thinking it's all futile is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Merlin, cheers

Skureal, "just draw it" it's catchy, I like it :)

Messing around in class, drawing nazibots.
http://student-kmt.hku.nl/~floris1/art/sketchbook/boek3/3_6.jpg

These two are maybe 1 cm high in the sketchbook. I found it interesting how much you can read into such small drawings, each taking maybe 10 seconds at most.

hey man, nice update. love the action in ehm.
gotta watch those feet! :D

nad yeh.. i know i need to stop thinking its all futile and i will fail anyway.
but yeh.. its hard to just switch:).. i need something that tells me.. hey.. it working. that i actually feel progression or at least that i learned something when i sketch.. which i don't really..
i never went to school.. well serious school.. did 1.5 years VWO
i those times i never did homework and just well made it through without..
i never had to fight to get/do what i want.. and yeh.. now a all fames turen arround where i do have to learn how to do that.. learn to learn.. my biggest problem is concentration. when i draw i feel like stabbing blindly into thin air.. not knowing where to stab next.. if i would just hit some rock or something i would know 'hey.. so thats not the dude i wanted to kill' so far.. its been mostly air.. so yeh.. motivation goes down. futileness up :)..
i think also a big thing connected with this is the all fames being loose with your drawings etc.. i think on me it works more as an escape.. i dunno.. more like stabbing into the same spot of air. when i should be dancing arround in there. well.. yeh.. i think im closer to the right road now.. but its just hard and im just complaining:). thnx for the concern.. and it was real cool meeting you too.. i think there was good friendship in there.
cant wait for the next meeting and more TD's to compete at :P

What a long time since I last posted, and still you people bump it! I don't deserve that, but you deserve an update now.

A lot happened since I last posted. I've been working as a concept artist at my internship since start july. I've only been doing environments till now, something I had little to no experience with and I'm very grateful for all the experience I'm getting. I haven't counted the seperate finished pieces. But my filecount of everything just reached the 160. I've been working like crazy with my friend David right next to me kicking ass for the past 3 months, 40 hrs a week and I can't show any of it.

Getting up at 6:30 every morning took some getting used to. I often sleep in the train, sometimes sketch, that's what you'll see below. When I get home I'm tired and often don't feel like drawing more. I'm used to the schedule and work now, so I expect to start producing more personal work soon. I have seen a lot since and feel inspired.

In july me and some friends went to the annual brussels workshop. Good times were had. It was great to meet up with mates I met in Prague and meeting new people. Learned a lot and made some new friends. Hyver and his lovely wive did a fantastic job organising everything, very cool.

There's a great picture uploading system now and the site is getting more awesome constantly. I'm gonna upload everything from now on and I'll update previous [img]-posted pics accordingly when I have time.

--

fooxoo, hey girl, it was cool meeting you in Brussels, seems a long time ago already, I've been very bussy -- I still owe you a drawing, I didn't forget, you'll get it as soon as I have time to make it ... :).

madplanet, bi-artistic? I'm a lot sloppier with my right hand, but my mind still sees the problems in the drawing, and looks at the subject I'm drawing the same way, most of the "drawing" happens in your head so I only have trouble with a shakier hand then normal.

Robot, yooo maaan !! Let's hang out soon, I miss our group, the friends, the drinking, the drawing.

Asoir, I avged 3/4 hrs a night, 5 days straight, while living on coffee, beer, whisky, wodka and czech sausages, that's where the gaze comes from ;).

Skeiff, I'm very sorry that I couldn't come to montreal. Next stop is Florence, won't miss it.

bmumble, thanks, it's an ode to a great artist and one of my heroes ::Mr. HPX-1 ::

BillyDead, cheers, more sketchy stuff below.

Mr. Blonde, hey man, what's up? I didn't respond to you in the brussels thread yet. Here's some more work, sorry for not updating in so long. I've been following your progress @ sijun, very cool. I loved your piece for the last TD, one of my absolute favorites in the batch.

Squeezed in a speedy before bed. Loosely followed this tutorial (http://www.gfxartist.com/features/tutorials/14033). Interesting stuff.

edit, just noticed, I forgot to flip it back, so it's mirrored in relation to the photo. Oh well.

Your most recent SP is masterly! And your ink doodles remind me of Terada, which is no bad thing in my book!

Looking forward to more.

Hyver, hey man, hows life? Thanks for dropping by :).

EAD, Thanks.

Skureal, hey bro, yea, long hair and all, I should really get it cut, although it's nice and warm now that it's getting colder. Had a good time the other day, I'll drop by some time again fo sure.

asoir, haha, thanks :nohope:.

oishiiniku, I'm not that familiar with his work, but what I've seen is killer, thanks for the compliment.

blacky, of the hundreds things I did for work only a part is approved and a fraction of that will be officially released, I expect, which will take a few yrs. So yea, thanks ).

TGping, Not really, my offhand (right) is very wobbly for drawing, but the knowledge is in my head, not my hand, so if I concentrate I can still draw something with it ;).

kaktuzlime, you don't even know me? But thanks, heh.

Dtemp, thanks.

Same story, bussy etc. Did a quick sketch yesterday for something we were talking about at work and worked on it a bit tonight. It wasn't meant as a stand alone piece per se, which didn't help the composition. Figured I could post it anyway.

Cool, Chtultchu! Like the boldness of the strokes, but the colour scheme feels bland. Doesn't scream "mindshattering evil from Beyond" to me. Or maybe that was how ot was meant to be?

I'm loving your work, your lines just bring everything to life! amazing! :) does that looseness and freeness just come with practice and confidence? Ive started a life drawing class, (first time in 7 years) i'm getting back into it but i'm just very stiff, is there anything you do, or could suggest to just loosen up?

Shinryu, bhanu, cheers both.

Epias, dank u wel ).

walnut, like I said, it's not meant as a stand alone piece. As requested by a m8 at work, I painted it quickly to paste it on a vehicle design I was making colour schemes for. Figured I'd post it anyway as I haven't been able to show any work at all for a while.

rubber-chicken, practice and confidence, yes. I love the lines and shapes regardless of the subject I'm drawing or painting. Like doodling on a piece of paper while on the phone. Explaining it is hard, mm, I think I've always had it in my drawings but it really developed itself in the past few years that I've been drawing seriously, that would point to practice and confidence then. Don't be afraid is my advice.

My internship ended with the new year. Currently working on a personal school project. I've been doodling, sketching and painting the past few weeks, but it's scattered all over the place. I'll see if I have anything worth to post later.
For now a sketch I just finished in one go. Gorillas are awesome.

edit: happy new year!
