These are a series of character concepts I've been doing lately. The basic theme is 'indie scenester kids of the future with guns'. Alright, the theme is anything but basic...There's a fair amount of images, so please be patient.

I'm not happy with the running pose at all. The figure just looks like he's standing on one leg and leaning.

The character has a lazy eye, a Nikon belt, and low self-image due to an overbearing mother constantly criticizing her appearance.

Most of the weapons are of my own design or variations of real-life weapons.

You have a very strict, clean style in these, with a 'same thickness line' all over. Not sure if it's a choice or because the linework is done with a mouse perhaps? Or maybe technical pens?

It can be a style in itself though, and it works well especially on the running guy and the mini morris woman IMO.

As for the running pose you're not happy with, I think it would look better if you drew the foot of the forward leg with it's heel on the ground and the sole showing as if he's just taking/reaching for his next step, or the tip of the shoe on the ground and the heel above ground, as if he's on his way to finish the step.

If you choose the latter, then his knee should probably bend a little more too though.

Anyway, they are just suggestions. :)

I think you've done a good job.

Nice work, I really like the motion in the second piece. It really stands out.

Thanks for the comments so far, guys.

John-I'm inking my stuff with micron pens. I use about 4 different line weights, but I guess the variation isn't all that perceptible. I used to go crazy with drawing huge, thick outlines on my figures, but I've eased back on that lately.

Your suggestion for the second drawing is spot on. Having the advancing foot viewed from underneath would help tremendously. I think in general, I should foreshorten the torso and legs more to get more motion implied.

Irate-Thanks. You're about the only person that's ever complimented my work on having stand out motion, which I think it's sorely lacking.

if we're talking atlanta indie, the guys need to be wearing tighter girl pants, shaggier hair, expensive shoes, maybe a star tattoo here and there:D nice designs. i like all the guns on the first picture

Thanks for the observations, Pibb. I don't think my concepts were focused on region, but if I do some concepts based on Atlanta scenesters, I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

Guiltyspark, the only excuse I can think of is that the figure released the magazine earlier when his arm was level with the ground and has since brought up his arm to reload the gun. Thanks for noting the seeming disparity.

Scout, the character concept is tentatively called Six Shooter, hence six guns. The reason why I wanted him to have six guns is that he loads each gun with different types of bullets for different effect. Some guns will be loaded with hollowpoints, others with explosive tips, etc.

The scene I had in mind was for the character to smoothly and deftly draw and holster each gun in some sort of sequence to capitalize on the different advantages of each type of bullet. So he'd pull a gun from his left thigh holster, shoot a round, holster it, pull a gun from his right shoulder holster, shoot it while holstering the gun in his right hand, etc.

It's the sort of over the top concept that only really works in cartoons, movies, and video games.

super clean style... killer mini coop, one crit is the lady leaning over the car, there are too many lines on her wrist and her arms, looks like the arms of a 87 year old lady, just like teh simpsons draw the old people lines on their arms and such.~
beautiful work!

Cool concept!
it reminds me of John Woo's "haerd Boiled" or anyother Hong Kong shooter.
The heros never, reload their wepons! After having shot 'bout 50 rounds, the simply trow the guns away and reach for another pair... its like they are allergic to reloading.
Why else would you carry 3 pairs of guns?
