Hey everyone, I'm new here to CA.org. My name's Kevin, but you can call me algebra if you want. I'm 15 years old and live near Chicago, Illinois. I've been drawing for a while and I've recently been trying to learn anatomy and all that fancy stuff for the past few months. These are just a couple of my latest things, and I plan to keep this thread updated as often as I can.

This was reffed from some picture on gettyimages.

I have a good 3 or 4 pages of just hands from tonight, but I thought this one was decent enough to post. (And plus my scanner likes to not work).
http://immune.atriotic.com/Sketchbook/headerdonewhite.jpg
I'm almost done with this one. I was messing around with colors considering I've never digitally colored something on my own all the way through. No reference on this one, it just started out as a pencil sketch in class.
Critiques, comments, and advice are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Algebra, nice start on your sketchbook, and welcome to CA!! The first sketch in color has a lot of character and good design elements in it. The hands are looking good too, do more of those, we need to see them! And don't be afraid to post, even if you think the sketches you've done aren't good enough. You're never as good or as bad as you think you are. Cheers.

Some random, badly done sketch that I inked with some fat sharpie I found on the floor and colored in under 10 minutes. I actually really like the colors in this one, I'm pretty satisfied. (The belt and sword sheath never got colored I guess). I hate the color choices (all the bright clothes) but I really never color things in bright colors, and I needed practice on it.
I'm working on some drawings from life and photo ref right now, I should have those up later tonight.

I'm hoping to keep this updated as frequently as possible.

i like the woman with the purple tentacles. everything else seems like steady progress for you. when youre doing the human skull, always pay attention to the curves and shapes of everything, especially with the spinal cord, as well as the teeth arrangements.

Thanks, both of you.
Heroic - I know what you mean. I really don't like how I go over my lines so much, it's a bad habit. In the first page of hand sketches I was really practicing breaking that habit. Thanks for the advice. :)
Azeira - Thanks, and I'll pay close attention next time I do studies like that (should be tonight or tomorrow, haha).
Since I don't have any live models to draw from at my house right now (I don't like drawing in the mirror, I move too much). I drew from a photo ref from the nude reference thread.

I practically never draw anything besides humans, so I figured I'd try my hand at some creature. Original sketch in pencil took about 20 minutes, and the colors took 40-50 because I work really slow. Haha. I really wanted to push contrast and saturation in this one (and try having a second, colored light source).

I was just screwing around earlier today and realized why a lot of my faces are skewed. (Eyes too far to one side, not set back far enough, and nose too far to one side). This is kind of a before and after, the two on the left were before I knew what I was doing wrong and the two on the right were after. And the one in the bottom right was me combining some anatomy studies for the day with a sketch.
Speaking of which, does anyone have a large picture of a full skeleton? Googling yields little to no results.

Sorry for the lack of an update, but I'm having scanner troubles. When I'm doing a "preview scan", or the quick pass my scanner does just to show you what it'll look like before you scan, the light/motor freezes in the middle and makes a loud buzzing noise that I can only stop by pulling the power entirely. I ignored this once and got a scan through (what I'm about to post) and as the scanner's light was going back to the resting position it froze in the same spot and practically started screaming, haha. So, I don't really know what's up but I'll try and keep scanning. For now, just something I doodled in school today.

Hey, man, great start to your thread!! You're gonna be blastin' down that concept art doors in no time! You're starting out the right ways. Just keep at the studies and such. You'll enter into some frustrating times along the way but if you keep at it the growth will eventually show thru like you wouldn't believe! You've got some nice stuff already happening! Like Shyam said, those hands are great. Try to draw from life as often as you can and keep up the anatomy work. I'll be back!! So get drawing!!

Very nice studies of those girls, but you could study more on proportions, anatomy, and those things, so you can learn to set up figures, and have a better understanding of the human figure :)
I don't know if you have the loomis books, you can get them here www.saveloomis.org

Thanks everyone!
@ZebzFree - Thanks for your support, it helps. :)
@bRØk3n_sPiRiT - Thanks. And yeah, I have seen Loomis' stuff. I actually posted a page of studies from his "Drawing the Head And Hands" book like 4 posts up, haha. I do studies on proportion and stuff as often as I can, as well.
I got my scanner to stop screwing up, so here are a couple shoulder+upper arm studies from yesterday and this morning, respectively.

From two different images, it's just that I drew it too big on the second one so I didn't get to fit the elbow in like in the picture.
I've been doing at least one if not more anatomy studies and/or drawings from life for 8 days now, and I hope to keep it up for as long as possible. :)

Sorry for the lacking updates. My scanner seems to only work when it feels like it now. And even then, it puts red vertical lines over half the stuff I actually scan. Oh well. Here I have a sketch I did today in French class, and a study from last night.

http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2743/forearm2sq.jpg
I found a couple pencils my dad had in some old box in the basement, ranging from really thick something like 4H lead all the way down to .5mm blue soft-leaded pencils. I've been messing around with these a lot, haha. On the forearm study, I used a hard lead pencil (unlabeled lead) and on the centipede thing I used a lot of softer leads.
Edit- seems the images I had hosted on my site don't work anymore. My host needs to pay their bill. :/

First one's something for art class. Sharpies + watercolor paper = bad. It bled all over the place. I wouldn't have used sharpies if I was allowed to use something else for it. This will end up being watercolored.

When I was 15 I was drawing shoddy cartoon figures, nothing as good as this. You know, you usually see some halfwitted attempt at practically anything from a 15 year old but you're better than most of us were at that age. Of course you've got a long way to go still and there are some issues with anatomy and nearly everything else but you can't expect to be great at 15.

I'm diggin it. I really am. Your colors, when you do them, look really nice. The nude studies from photographs are dead on-perhaps a little problem with forehead, hair and not photographic detail, but I'm not complaining.
