I'm trying to develop my skill, by making more complex designs for me. I tried to digitally colorize, the second one, but I don't like it at all. I don't know what's wrong, perhaps it's too black...

Well here are the designs :

These are amazing, but I agree with you about the second one, it's too dark.

These are awsome!

The tribal orc type dude just rocks- not the wierd one with the beard- he probably would have been easier to color since he's straight on...the demon dude...he's not doing so good.

How to make your work better- a couple suggestions.

On the color piece you lose all your cool little detail you have in the sketch- Black backgrounds tend to completely overwhelm an image- also on the figure- I tend to think in shilouhette when creating an image- I usually almost completely ignore the main figure and paint the negative space around him when I'm starting to color a piece and I do a lot of adjustments to the figure at that point- because that is what makes a composition/figure in it look cool.

I attached a quick- "chop" of your figure which I think shows some flaws in the basic layout- the dude is just all bunched up in that cloak. The weight of the sword doesn't show at all in the way he's holding it- I defy you to hold a sword in that exact hand position. It's not physically comfortable nor does it go anywhere- how did he come to hold the sword in that awkward pose in the first place- and where is he going with it?

what I mean to say is- think through your poses- it looks like you had a cool pose you liked and then you tried to fit a sword into it or vice versa- rather than designing the piece as a whole.

I would focus on the figure and leave your backgrounds very simple - for now you have enough to worry about with the figure itself. It's good work, but soo close to being fantastic that it's frustrating to look at.

Keep on it!!

Sorry, I don't really have any crits, i just wanted to say these are awesome. :)

Well - maybe the arm on the right of the second/third guy(s) is a bit longer and with a bit wrong proportions under the armor compared to the arm on the left, but...

Great pieces!

good shit bone---love the level of detail you put into your designs

if you gave the grounds(BG) just a little darker value i think it would help the figures pop off the BG more because of higher contrast with their highlights

keep it up--ty

Cool stuff! I really like the tone work on the demon. Quick crit- He's stiffly posed 'cause his limbs, head, etc- are all lined up! Rotate the hips and shoulders opposite each other a bit, move one foot forward... you get the idea. You want to show maximum visual data (this IS a concept design, after all), so don't go so far as too lose sight of all the detail. The tones on the orkies are unfocused- give those bad boys a more distinct light source- try a side spotlight, or a low one... and keep on drawin'!

The things I like most about these concepts are the style, which favors more of a cartoon look, and the amount of detail in the accessories and armor.

Do you use a lot of reference or does most of this just come out of your head?

:D these r great

the reason the coloured version turned out weird might be that when you colour somethin digitaly it makes the lines stand out less, where as with the first finished pics there all lines, there probably a bit to dark aswell wat programme did you use?

what are these drawn on?

Is that ballpoint pen? I can't tell. And what's the white made with?

How long are you spending on them?

nice pics :chug:

Hey all I didn't expect such enthousiasm :)

I don't use a lot of references especially for a design. I read all the time a lot of book of photos from all around the world.

I think that I save details in my mind and they come out inconsciously at time.

I use simple HB pen on 90g paper for printers, and then I add the texture and the light with photoshop, very quickly (less then 10 mn).

Thx again for your comments !
