Bro... awesome about sumz it up! Great, great work, man. It's great to see you back as well. You'll have to tell us all about your many adventures. I'm thinking of doing an overseas stint with some friends next year so you'll have to let me know where to hit up the hostels and stuff. But yea, this stuff is sooo great. It's too much to take in! I love the environment pen drawings as well. You're makin' some fat strides. Make sure and tell us what you learned from the WS! I wanna know what the pointers you got were! Great work! Great work! Now in honor of your Mexican heritage I'm going to go have a Chimichanga. Buenos Noches! ;)

You have a most excellent sketchbook, it's everthing that a sketchbook could and should be. Not just studies, but a journal of experiences, as well. The sketch at the airport showing the seats and the plane just blew me away. Too cool. I recognized all the Firenze sites even before the statue of David! Those were great to see. Please post more.

dCepT: Dude!! Grasias por darte una vuelta por aqui! thanks for the post
I would have loved to go hand hang out on Sweden!! be sure that ill
find a way to cross the ocean again (not in the near future but
some day, ill manage to do it :^^: ) I miss ya guys, I had such a GREAT
time and the inspiration I got form all of you is fueling my hand like
nothing before!!
Jens: He he funny you said that cause I do plan to frame those
portaits you made, be sure of that, thanks so much for beeing so
cool with me, and for the pen and inks tips, good to har you diged the
landscapes, those are my favorites as well :)
Pencilator: Hi there you crazy sweden blond, Im so glad you liked the
update (I was very nervous about it cuase inks couse me lots and
lots of headaches so theres a lot of not very sucessfull experiments here :P )
but theres lots of fun experiments so I guess its allright :confident:
ZebzFree: Ryan!! bro, its good to have you around! thanks for all the
ecouragment, really, you comments are always wellcome, Im glad to
hear you diged the eviros, I liked too as well, as far as your request for
tales and tips from the workshop, one of the main things was that
el El coro and Jens told me to slow down and really draw what I see,
and El Coro, told me that using inks forces you to be more acurrate,
cuase you cant erase one bit you really need to think alot before you
act, so right now and after the workshop I started to REALLY use
inks every single minute, and Im goona be working with them for at least a year,
I mean ill do some other stuff but doing my daily ink-observation
excersices is a must for me now, plus I find ink to be very liberating
for the same reason some find it to be limiting, you see if you cant
fixe it then you can move one to the next study wiht out any regrets :P
and that for me is like nirvana he he, as far as the trip it self, I would
urge you to do it, it quite an experience man! you should go for sure,
of course I have more things to tell but I need to sleep as well, so
ill keep on updating and writing as usual, in an almost daily basis
You too keep it up, ill drop by you thread tomorrow for sure! :)
fukifino: OH! man those last oil portraits on your SKB are amazing man,
my jaw droped to the foor seriously! thaks for the post man, it good
to have around, thanks for the warm wellcome, REALLY! :^^:
seth1: he he he, hold those urges :P now seriusly
THANKS for the ecouragment it means the a lot to me!!!
madplanet: DUUUDE thanks for giving me such a cool complement
really Im so happy to har you recognized the eviroments, that is so
cool, thanks for the ecouragment, and I completly agree with
you I use my SKB as a diary of sorts, a visual one :^^:
mentler: Michel!! thanks for droping by I means the world to me
that you tooked the time to drop by my new SKB, thanks for the
ecouragment, ill start been activly posting at SOFA soon as well :D
SirSushi:Yes Sir! you can bet I drawed my ass off every day he he:P
Im glad to read you liked the sketchs :D
adraude: yeah I post lots of unsucessfull images becase that way maybe
one of the persons waching might have the solution for that image so
I belive is worth showing them to learn more form the comments of others,
and I did not posted all the stuff I did, I leaved like some pages out becuase
I was really tired of scaning Im glad you finded my SKB inspirational,
It means a whole lot to me, so THANKS for that! :^^:
Ok Im really tired and I should go to sleep early, il just say that Im
Really happy that all of you gave me such a warm wellcome on my
new daily journey to improve in the realms of life and arts :D so
thanks for this REALLY!!! CA RULES! :yayca: :painting: :^^:

Fucking awesome stuff!! I've been looking at your other sketchbook as well. Your studies are freaking great, I really like your use of lighting on them.
You have a really cool gestural line (don't know if thats the correct expression).
Muy bueno. Praga parece haber sido algo genial, me hubiese gustado poder haber ido. A lo mejor con suerte pueda ir al proximo (aunq lo dudo, pero voy a tratar!). Un saludo, y espero ver mas! :)

Hey Maxetormer!
Those inks are working really well for you!
Your sketches of buildings/environments are awesome, such as the fountain, Notre Dame, inside the cathedral, etc.
And I think it's great that you are sketching so many different people from life.
Keep doing that!

advicate and a good lawyer is a good politician so he has a querubin
mask wings and a aureole to make deals with god but deep down
he is only loyal to the dark lord..., or is he? :P
I did maked a losse pencil understructure for this one,

Great updates, Max! Lovin' the stuff you're postin' bro! I can't wait to see more! The inks are lovely as well. The image of your Dad is my fav! Great work! The colors are looking mighty good too. I have no backbone for color so it's nice to see someone making some strides in that area! I need to hit the sack as well but I wanted to pop in a issue some words for ya! Keep it up!!!

Hard working man you are. Great stuff here and I really respect the amount of effort you've put in your drawings. There's progression thoughout your sketchbook, especially in the shading. I like that last post of yours, but at the moment I'm not using colors at all, so I tend to look at the sketches more carefully. Only thing that bothers me here is David's boobs. :P Will have to follow your progress in the future.

Nice effect with the lighting on your self-portrait. With the whiteness of the torso, the beard comes at ya like it's in 3-D. Very nice. I also really like your pen work; you pack a lot of detail in with even the loose sketches. You have a very unique style of line too. I think so, anyways.

Good stuff. That coro-style drawing turned out really nice. Those inks make for some interesting tonal shifts. Well done. I'm familiar with the technique, but I'm not familiar with wood inks. Where do you get them? Are they cheaper than Prismacolor ($9 for 40ml)? hmm. so many questions...
Anyway, the sketchbook's looking great. Showing some improvement, especially with faces. well done, and keep it up.

Wow. That jump from an ink drawing to color is amazing. It's always great to see all those differences that color can bring to a piece. And I'm a sucker for oranges and ochres. So, do you use a very thin wash of acrylics and inks and then go over it with the colored pencils? I have experimented with something like this in the past, but with no real great success. I guess, i just need to do some more; I like the effect. Well, have a great New Year.

shyamshriram: hi there mate! Thanks for the props, Im glad you liked
the last kid stidy, doing outdoors stuff is real fun, you should
dfenity try out doing some f them for sure, about the wood inks
they are real easy to find I read Coros Tut and he said to use
alcohol based inks, this were the only kind I could find, the idea
is that this type of inks do less damage to the paper as oppossed
while using acrilics or watercolors plus they dry super fast so you get
results in a very short time, give it a try is really fun check out this link:
http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=566

around 6 to 5 hours of work, form laying down the construccion to thinking
how I wanted to lit the scene, and from that to making mistakes, erasing and
hitting my head to the walls of my room cause things dont look right :P
I wish I had a better metod, becuase I know that with out that Im unable to
repeat the things that looked good on the next pic, the only thing I can
do is pratice, practice, practice on the hopes I will over come this.

Luis! I look away for a second and you've filled your sketchbook with awesomeness! Its good to see that you havent lost your relentless drive, its inspiring to see your dedication. My absolute favorite this far is the kid with the candy. Very good piece! I have a little crits on the chow tho.. I think his arm holding the gun looks a little short. It also looks like his lower legs are a liiittle bit too short as well. I would also check that shadow under the cross he's holding, it looks a little out of place. I think the whole pose could be more dynamic if you place his feet even further apart. One more crit before i'm through.. his vest kind of blends in with his coat on our right side. (his left) I think that if you defined the transition a little more it would look much better.
So long, keep rocking, and NEVER STOP!

Hey man,
ZebsFree told me to check you out, so here I am. Wow! You must draw ALL the time! I wish I could say the same. You have some fantastic work here, and I think you just inspired me to either work much harder, or just give up all together.
I think I'll stick with more hard work....
Your self portraits are incredible, and really... Even the stuff that doesn't work as well, is still going in the right direction. I know what you mean about not feeling like you have any direction in your art, but I've found (like it sounds you have too) that just "working through" it helps me find my focus again.
I look forward to seeing more of your stuff in the future.
Later.

Well, happy belated b-day, it sounds like you had a good one. What painting was the Dali print of? Just curious, he's one of my favorite painters.
All of the self-portraits are great, so full of life, they really are. The eyes in the ink one are just fantastic. Is the one with the question marks from when you were wondering where to go with your art? I believe so, because that face has the captured expression of the weighted thoughts.

the rendering on the hogarth studies is very good, but you look abit skinny on your sp. or is that just me? i seem to recall you having more flesh on you. so to speak.
edit: something makes the face seem askew. i can't tell if it's the jawline or the placement of the mouth though. something about the mouth and beard area.

Carnifex:Yo!its good to have you around! thanks for the spot on critique,
I made some changes based on it, Im glad you liked the shading on the
hogarth studies, see ya later!! -Daddy Smurf-
kingcoyote: Hogarts is kinda exagerated but its great to see the muscles
as volumen instead as just abstract shapes conecting here and there,
Im happy to har you wanted to do inks after seeing my experiments I made
my day :D you will see studing anatomy does pays off, but it takes
some time to even start to kick in, so keep it UP!
Burning Eyes: Your last SP looked hell of a lot nice cool harsh dramatic
lighting, I diged it a lot, just keep doing em, Im still way far from doing
a really good face, its a matter of pratice thats all, you doing really
good man!!
young paddy1: Hey Im glad you liked the inks and the shading, as far as the
hollow thing, well I was gonna write that ill overcome it with practice
but truth be told Im not even sure if Ill be able to pull it off, I mean
its not the first time someone tells me this (Jason Manely sorta told me this
same thing on the workshop) and well I dont know what to tell ya, I guess
time will tell, its not like I dont see "it", its more like Im not even sure if I
can fix it, and like I said time will tell...I know you dont meant to be
harsh on anything but man, you comment really bumed me out, its like
I prefer to be told that my tecnichal skills are bad :P oh well back to the

The portal creature is a good start... very dark. It reminds me of the Naz'gul from LOTR, and also some of Brom's stuff. The arms on it look a little "off" though, like you couldn't figure out how they should attach... um, it looks like you added some mass in between the torso and arms to make up the difference, instead of getting them positioned well in the first place. Does that make sense? I'm also having trouble figuring out what's going on with the triangle shape next to him... I'm assuming that it's the "portal", but it's position in space isn't consistant with everything else. I love the head-piece/body armour, and tatoos though...
The SP and portraits are awesome, as usual. Do you work from photos with your SPs at all? The reason I ask, is that I always have trouble maintaining (or, failing that reestablishing) facial expressions with the angle, and lighting etc. when I'm drawing myself from life.
Great work, man! I always enjoy looking at your stuff.

kingcoyote: Spot on critiques, I will develop this creature some more
for the next post, so ill take all of your coments in acount for sure,
about the photo thing I have never made a photo selfportait,
you see you can always use photo refs of other people from magazines,
but the beauti of using a mirror is that its almost as good as a life
drawing, and doing stuff form life activates diferent parts of your brain
that you dont use while coping from photos translating 3D to 2D is much
more streessfull for your brain and you learn the doble of things,
as far as expresions I dont mantain my face on the expresion all
i start with a losse gesture and then I try to tighten it up by going
back and forward on the expresion on my face, say... I consentrate on
how the the nose goes a littel up in my face when my lips are contrated
on anger and then I try to refine that area, and so on and on on the rest
of the features and overall expression that I already skeched on the gesture
underdrawing, (not that my system is all that good, actually Im pretty
dam far form doing good expresions :P ) I hope this helps you a bit :^^:
see ya and thanks for droping by!!

No crits with your pencilwork. And I guess that your digital stuff would enter the next level if you dared to use a not so transparent pencil tool instead of the airbrush-tool. I guess that this was -as your strokes would nor blend one into another -it would look more vivid.

That's rough man... It's one of the hardest things about this field. We constantly feel like we're not good enough, and then... Well, I'm not trying to kick you while you're down. Just keep plugging away at it, it wasn't a rejection of you, just wasn't what they were looking for.
You didn't seem as comfortable with the girl and dog as you are with the majority of the stuff you've posted. Do you think this is maybe because the balance of "out of your head" VS "life" drawings is off? I don't think so... I've seen a lot of imaginative stuff from you, and it still seemed to have the vitality of your life drawings. It's really hard sometimes to "switch gears" from one type of thing to another... I don't know. I'm trying to be encouraging, and truthful (as I see it) at the same time, when I know you're feeling a bit down... And I think I might be coming off as an A-hole, so I'm just gonna let it go.
Keep on doin' it man! I love your work, and it always inspires me to work harder. Take care, and be good.

Luis my friend, you never stop amazing me! Your streak of rock solid pieces never stop, its inspiring to behold! I like how every page you post has a constant quality. Normally when i do something cool on a page i have some crappy stuff on it as well.
I noticed something kind of freaky on that last page, there's a few of those thumbnails that looks VERY much like some thumbnails i did a while ago! atleast the way i remember them! Its almost scary! :D
No crits from me this time, I just wanna thank you for rocking my socks! :D If i would have ONE nitpick it would be that the heart on the bottom of the "queen of hearts" piece looks like an upside down spade with that thing coming out of it on top.

The initial concepts for the ChOW are lookin' good. I was going to give it a go, but didn't really get started yet, and I have to go back to work tomorrow, so... The guy with the biohazard emblem on his armour, and the cod piece just cracked me up! Your brain takes you funny places sometimes, innit?
Those ink drawings are just beautiful, too... I totally agree with what Hurricane said, and actually was thinking something similar. There's just some people's work that is sooo... I don't know, it's almost painful to look at some of your drawings because I admire them so much.
Take care, and be good. Keep on keepin' on, and keep on rockin'.

I love all the little stories your pictures tell... there's a lot of little comic gems, that crack me up sometimes!
I guess I can see what the curator meant... The pose looks "locked up", like you were frozen in place. Upon reflection, this really fits with the theme of the piece... I mean he is locked up both figuratively, and literally, but at a casual glance it could appear to be a flaw... I don't think that curator is very good at his job. What I mean is, he's supposed to think about art. Is that the only reason he gave you? what a dick! That's like saying, "You aren't getting in just because I say so." Don't let it get you down too much man... he's obviously a fucktard.
Oh, and I'm glad to see you're feeling better. You are aren't you? 've missed you lately.

Hey dude!
Sorry i haven't posted here earlier, almost all my time have gone to the school applications and other work related stuff. I'll be more active by the end of this mpnth when all this settles down.
I like the bold ink stuff, and your pen rendering is really good. The inca(?) in
ArtistArticle14210.jpg is one of my favorites so far.
The last painting you posted has some anatomy issues. His right shoulder looks a bit off, the tricep looks a bit large compared to the other one. But when doing fantasy stuff, i don't think it really matters that much. I think it would benefit from tightenining the edges in the light side too.
Btw. check out our group forums in conceptart.org 3.0. There is a thread about a weekly activity inside our SSG.
All the best

Asoir: let your prayers be heard by the fantasy and concept desing gods!! :P
Inkfish: duuuuude thaks for stopinb by and for the honest criticing, yeah
the left arm looks kinda detached, I should work that out but it was
more of a color speedpaint so I just let the error stay, ill work on
this one a bit more perhaps more texture and some tighteing like
you say could make this one shine a bit more, bw good luck on your
school applications!!
liam.c: he he maybe we should fund a company to get hired by eachother :P
Cold: well actually value is everything if your grayscale is working then
you can use even graiss ugly tones and things still will hold up,
I mean ill look better if your color choises are good, but if your values
are wrong it does not matter how good you color is it would still look
like crap, thanks for stoping by and keep that SKB updated man, you
have some asum stuff there!!
seth1: he he yeah ill try to tone stuff down tho I liked how the color on the
orc turned out, It slightly on the to sat side I agree on that, Im still
struggleing to find this nice middle ground on color, Im glad you liked the
inks man, Im having shitloads of fund with em!!

Hey there!
Looking good as as always, bonus points for including Hulk Hogan too ;)
There seem to be some placement issues with a few of those inks(the eyes are a bit off with the second dude top right), but i think thats understandable when inking without a sketch beneath, i think it's a great way to practice precission.

Love the robot legs on that guy! ...Aaaand the cod piece! I wonder if it makes it easier or harder with the ladies? Hs-ha!
Watch the hands! His left hand seems a little small to me... It looks a little odd to me too, but that might just be the angle. Hands always look off at the wrong angle, I think that's part of what makes them so hard to draw.
Awesome work lately! Some of it's a little wierd... But Awesome!

There are a lot of small mistakes, but these are only sketches, so that's to be expected. I don't see any consistent problems so that's really good.
