I hope that you'all will give me some usefull feedback on what I've been doing as a late night hobby. Your suggestions might help me take my sculptural techiniques and style closer to the edge of art, or at least sculptural illustration, or anywhere more fun than the shelves of my own studio space. I don't know what this work could be classified as; perhaps art doll, figure modeling, or just plain sculpture. There is a little of each of those disciplines in the pieces, as I've borrowed techniques from all. So if I've managed to get the pictures here for you, let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Bing

Great detail ... technically very good IMO-in my opinion .
As for concept-art ... being able to create charcacters for things .. you are certainly able to do that without any probs .
By the way how long do they take you to make ?
Art ?
The way I see it .. & leverybody will propably have a different opinion on this .. but I think art should have a goal .. it should maybe have the goal of showing beauty .... something bejond showing the ability of very good craftmanship .. provoking a reaction in the viewer that is more than being amazed at the skill .
Dont like using the word .. but it should touch the viewer in some way ... sounds fancy .. but I think art should make a difference.
With this amount of skill you can create any kind of sculptural art you want to I guess ... it seems you are into realism so maybe create a house & people which could (usual topic) be a self-portrait .
Or maybe a mixture of things ... sculpture , painting ,collage all mixed together in one piece with a specific goal of getting a certain reaction from the viewer ..........
Just IMO :)

Thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated. Yeah, I'm way too tight on the details...need to loosen up a bit I guess. These three figures are the sum total of my output over a two year period of sporadic evening hours. I have no idea how much time I have in these. I learned a great deal with each, and I think I could pull off another in a weeks worth of 'steady at it,' now that I have some techniques that do work. I think that you who are accomplished scultptors must have spent a lot of time doing small, simple works, at first to hone your skills, before moving on to a piece of no return. I hated to give up on these...seemed like I needed to finish before moving on to another work. Some of the fun ran out of the projects towards the end, and at this point I need encouragement, or advice, as to what to do next. So thanks for the input.

I'd consider them mixed media sculpture, and very nice ones at that.
I really love the viking, the knocked over basket really adds a nice touch to show he's out raiding.
For some critique, the proportions look about right, there's a good amount of detail. I'm not sure what you used on the face of Napolean? but it seems too shiny. The eyes seem bugged out a bit, they aren't set back under the brows quite as much as they usually are.

Yes, you are quite right about the wana-be Napoleon. He's the second figure I ever sculpted, and my inexperience shows. I used an acryclic model paint as I recall, which is a bad choice for skin. On the viking I used acrylic tube paint, which still did not render a good skin likeness. The Shaker farmer's skin is painted with artist oils, and that works great, though again, the photos are not that good.
Thank you kindly for the input,
