yo, i really really like those two anatomy studies 17f0, 15c9.
the technique and accuracy you put into them is incredible compared
to your other works - it's almost like they're from another artist!
keep it up! good stuff!!

Some nice stuff; Very nice anatomy stuff, I share the same opinion as rewind, they look incredible compared to your other work:)

Thanks a lot for your replies, rewind and GunTrouver.
I am glad you like those.
Funny thing is, that those two studies you are talking about are really small 5.8x8.3 in. (A5). It was really fun doing em like miniatures.(But afterwards I got the advice of drawing on bigger formats.)
They are of litle artistik value to me though. As I consider them only as being studies same as some of those:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/Ich.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/romantizism.jpg
They are supposed to twach me skills I might need for drawing without refferrences someday later. These are studies I did without ref. (I'm sure it shows, specially on left hand of first one), but only couple of month ago these would have seemed impossible for me to do.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/afro.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/sidevievathlet.jpg
I also try to draw as much from life as possible as like that guitar player here
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/guitar.jpg
and lately I've been concentrating on giving forth emmotion/ Ideas, as simple as possible.
(partially because I barely have time to put much effort/work into my works, any more(at least till crismasvacations))
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/girl.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/mask.jpg
I'aint actually sure if conceptart.org is the right place to put these. If not, please somebody tell and I will try to post more conceptual art as soon as I'd get around doing some.
Cheers.

Crossbow forearm's a really cool idea. Also dig the girl in orange from Nov 15, and the quickly inked guitarist who appears to be playing a Gretsch, great job at describing those things so quickly and loosely.

Your pink series is amazing also some very strong violent images and strokes. the best of them are the most expressionist ones. dont give up on them. the weakest ones are the ones you try to go with the wave, to be more mainstream...

Thanks guys, those replies mean a lot to me.
Now as I've posted my "better"- stuff already (especially at first posts,)
I'll be posting more random, rather ordinary stuff. Sorry. It's a scetchbook and I want to look at it as a steady line of improvement. So I have to be more honest with you, and most all myself.
Here we go with a really crapy SP. (messed up left eye among other things)
I like second though.
There's also some stuff I did during classes and some more of those pinkseries.
Those 2 Inquisition pics are sort of old, but I like em in some way.

Blacky, I really like feeding off of the energy that your figures put out. At least for me they do. I find that your creativity is addictive, although I couldn't even begin to replicate any of what you do. I just hope that some of that energy rubs off a little. You have a very interesting thread with all of its imperfections and perfections; it's a visual process.

Like your works <> see major talent here <> like the color pieces a lot <> need to gain more control over the value structure <> if you squint your eyes at the color pieces you will see they get a little spotty <> easy to fix just make sure your darks and lights are is the right places and don't let the color destroy the harmony of the values.
Very cool works with a lot of style and energy

Ok who are you?
are you the guy with the first paintings on this thread or the one with the last ones?
latest stuff is more on my cup of tea so id say its superb. the life drawings are amazing and very schielesque. although the new ones are more constrained to look good than the old ones so i think they lost a bit of the personality.

Thanks to all of you folks....
madplanet- Am surprised to hear such glorifications of my creativity, as most of my recent stuff's been studies n all. (was even afraid It could hurt my imagination...) But, say, what imperfections were you speaking about? I ain't know no imperfections!!
har, har...just kidding...
Pesmerga-thanks a lot, and glad you liked the tour :)
mentler-yupie! (all those annoying posts I left at your sb, finally paid off... ( ;) )) Seriously, I am very thankfull that you tossed a bone. Re-read it like 30 times...
You are very right on your crit. I'll have to be more carefull about hatmony. Am not sure if it'd be such an easy problem to fix though. Made such mistakes at times recently again, but I'll bear your comment in mind.
bumskee-Oh my gosh, all that talk about me being extremely talanted and all makes me feel odd (and flattered of course). Tell my art teacher, he wouldn't give me an A (I'll get an A- or B+ :( ). It also seems to put pressure on me, like I'd have to keep up the high level and improve from post to post....
Don't get me wrong though, I very much appreciate your post and crit. (Was it sve who send you that link?)....am I sort of like an Insidertipp now?...now..thats a hell cool compliment :)
blkn-thanks man. Their (rather)thorough execution makes me feel better when messing up my lifestudies ;)
marrioucci-ah, always a treat to see you drop in....thanks.
Who I am?.....I my selv couldn't tell, (but there are two new sp below.)
Those old lifedrawings were "shielescue" (great word by the way), because at that time I came across shiele for the first time and got inspired by his stuff. Meanwhile I've been working on anatomy and proportions and all so I'd be trying to make this effort show in those new lefedrawings. It's funny you say I was trying to make them look good and that the old ones where better.
It's something I got told recently by some other guy too. Among other things, so I am rather confident, that I'll get the hang of it again. Perhaps not next time or next month, but better bevore next year or else I might not get tacken at art scool (commercial art/ illustration) :( (they have like 25 contestants per study-place)

Imperfections? Did I say imperfections? What I meant to say was quirks....yes, artistic quirks, that's it. And yeah, I still think that you are one creative dude. Even if they are studies, it's all in how you approach them. I kept one of the first paintings that I ever did to remind me of what not to do in approaching a painting. It's horrible.
Don't have much to say about the latest, except that I'm enjoying the images. I like the variety that you put out.

Hello, Blacky :). first time when i was writing to you, I was so excited I wanted to share what I saw in your thread. Then the major cataclysm happened and I lost 30min comment. But anyway I want to tell you that I think you are awesome, beautiful talent. And the most striking quality, in my opinion, is your interest to world around you, your openness to any new information and visuals, your fearless approach to art and, of course, you attentive eyes and clever hands. Your drawings are so impulsive and engaging. Even when you draw or paint a static figure, I can feel the life happening around it, air moving, muscles rolling under skin. In other more dynamic drawing it's a great illusion of the body still continuing its movement. The lines are running, chasing each other, turning and they talk very persistently with me. Your art is hot and it's impossible, at least for me, to observe it calmly.
I don't know what kind of person you are in life, but in art you are ball of fire, irresistible.
I love everything in your book. It's wonderful variety of images and different approaches to art, but they all have you in it.
Still I want to pick some favorites.

(Burratino! hehehehehe)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/6b69.jpg ( figure is so smooth like it is made from the glass)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/c431.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/a6a4.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/7012.jpg ( this image is so beautiful, great movement, may i save it?)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/38dc.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/17f0.jpg (I saved it, OK? it's so bizarre)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/15c9.jpg ( I save it, strikingly beautiful)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/doggy.jpg ( I adore this image, it's so unusual effect, how those slightly skewed floor tiles create movement and sensation of my own presence in the picture. It's so great, I took it. I really feel like I'm walking to the dog and my view is slightly changing and those tiles jumping in front of my eyes. It's a life happening right in this drawing.)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/Scan10013.jpg ( I like the composition and form)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/pop2.jpg 9 - again very strange effect of my presence and image slightly changing in front of me. Awesome!
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/badsp.jpg
I love this portrait. Expression is wonderful, the eye is not a problem for me, because the manner to draw is very impulsive and vivid.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/pink3.jpg All those black pen sketches are great and more alive than some real people.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/corn.jpg (you know I can't resist still life, this is makes me hungry. Your lines are so crazy.)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/atTerrarium3.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/atTerrarium2.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/atterrarium1.jpg
Those three and the dog on the floor are my most favorite. They are making me smitten. again this wonderful effect of real life happening and sounds, movements, breathing right in front of me. Never saw anything similar in my life, very talented life depiction, thank you so much, Took it all.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/akt8.jpg Again great feeling of being involved, I feel dizzy.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/simonh.jpg I saw this manner of creating an illusion of air movement in background in Renoir sketch and in Van Gog art, of course.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/study001.jpg (a beautiful image, I took it)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/Burratino/jazzband.jpg I love it so much, took it.
all nudes studies and all paintings
So thank you so much. Please post more and attach a link of your book to your name so more people can see your awesome art whenever you go.

Good stuff here man.....You seem to have a genuine vision and unique way of seeing things. There is a great "free" feeling I get from your work...never lose that. If I had to crit one thing...it would be consistency. Sometimes your figures look real solid and thought out, yet keeping the looseness. Other times I feel the loose quality takes over too much and compromises the integrity of the drawing...in other words, instead of being expressive it just looks kind of wrong.
But don't misunderstand me ..I really love what's going on here, and look forward to seeing what else you do. Cheers

Thanks peops.
madplanet-it's alright to speak of imperfections rather than quirks (had to look it up, nice word), as I do actualy want to be called imperfect so I'd know that I'd have to improve on and on. 3/4th of a year ago I thought I was considerably good, so I wouldn't have to practice too much anyway. Meeting some real artists and learning about this site changed my point of view a lot.
Sve-30min, ...lost.....oh my god...me unlycky chap ;) . Thanks for your input a lot (update your sb so I could write back :) ) I was surprised at the choises you made on my images. Piced some of my favourites right away, glad you liked em. Makes me work harder on the quality of updates (I'm trying). Thanks for making me atach a link to my signature as well. (Was against it first, as I was planning to pile up stuff first, before peops. would get to see it. That's why title of this sb is so newbish, to keep people from visiting for a while, untill I'd get some reputation....sounds weird, I know)
Loomer-thanks, your crit is very well justified. I tend to have problems on keeping up my concentration. In real live I also mumble at times, for being to lazy to state s.th. that appears obvious to me anyway. That is egocentric, will have to work on it as far as possible (migt be too late).

Oh, Blacky! What a wonderful update. I love your crazy lines. When you know me better I hope you tell me your real name. I expect a lot from you in the future, providing that you work hard and don't fall for chemical "stimulators of creativity". They are useless, because you can not analyze their effect and use the knowledge. Sorry, just I take it seriously.
Wonderful portraits, so alive and full of different personalities, I especially like the portrait of your teacher in thick sweater, analyzing student's drawing, guy with the cigarette, Vladimir and Kiril portraits (I love Vladimir's hands and Kiril's pose is my favorite in all poses, I like to sit like this :), Like the effect of his slightly clouded eye, that's a great catch)).
In subway I like all the portraits, the most favorite are two last ones. Especially the woman, seeing pictures in her mind, a good catch again, in my opinion, bless your smart eyes :).
Quick study is awesome, you are really make it very enjoyable to look.
And the most appealing for me in this update is the drawing of jazz musicians, So much fun, I saved it, OK? Now I'm gonna educate myself about Egon Schiele.
Thank you.

Oh sve, what would a many scetchbooks on this forum look like if it wheren't for you...they probably would be half the size they are. Your support is very much appriciated. My real name's Andrej, blacky is what my hostbrother would call me at times cuz I'd be listening to hip hop and rap a lot at those fun times. (Now it's Classic music, Bluess n Jazz n so on (mostly)).
What do you mean with "I expect a lot from you in the future"? Of course I'll keep on drawing but there is no way to say what direction it will tacke me yet. Big compliment anyway, thanks. ...Oh, and don't you worry about me being serius about "stimulants". My dad's an Anasthesist, so I share some interrest bout those things with him. But I've been too busy to have any sip of booze or any of the kind for quite a while now and feel no need in doing so in future. Those remarks I left earlier where of more theorethical nature as of practical. I also don't want to stress that issue anymore here (got relatives and friends watching :bashful: )
I am very glad you liked these latest scetches of mine. I usualy have more stuff than I post as the rest would not be showable, so don't thing these would always turn out like that. :P .
Well anyways,... here are the last lifedrawing pics for this year. Will be busy with preparations for exhibition on January 12th. (those workshop pics are part of my contribution so far). So, grand stuff to come next weeks or so!!

Hey Blacky, everything looks great. I said it before and I'll say it again, you always have such a variety of images to look at and they are interesting to me. I like that when you change from pencil sketches to colored work how it affects the feel of the scene or pose. I don't think that my stuff has that feel when I change mediums or subject matter. Some of the proportions in your figure studies from the 23rd are off but, they still have character in my opinion. I enjoyed looking at them.

Ah, ok. that's a pretty sweet deal to have access to blacky! shit man, i pay $10 for 3 hours sometimes. (Of course, it's still worth it.)
ok: It's pretty impressive that you are able to bust out that many colors and complimentary schemes within those kind of time constraints. I would like to see longer poses, but there IS definitely something to be said for collecting amassive portfolio of a certain amount of timed pose and then having an entire body corpus of work.
oh, and i'm loving the new work from your post: It has kind of a unique psychedelic quality that is really enjoyable.

madplanet-Thanks a lot for your input. Am glad you liked the latest bunch. Expression is something I was heading for doing those lifestudies, so yes, proportions would have to suffer from that (as I would not have enough time left for such). I love to switch mediums as I never know how it would affect my attitude and the look of what I do. Has its dark sides too (speaking of inconsistency and quirks ;) )
guggenmanoever- Thanks for dropping by again. Oh, yes, I know, shame on me for not keeping track of my Photobucket affairs. It's just that I ainn't am that scilled about web stuff. 10$ for 3h? That's crazy, how in hell am I supposed to afford that. Com'n I have a lousy job at an Internet-cafeŽ! ...but I'll consider that option....speaking of psychedelic, thanks for noticing. Although only last one was ment to look disturbing. And please do believe me, I'd LOVE to draw some longer poses, but it just is not possible. Those other folks, where I go to, would be crying for 2-3 min. poses for no end. :(
Anyway, I intend to get to page 2 some time soon. So I'll keep on posting despite all (Photobucket will not let me display my fair share of 15mb untill January 11th.:S )

Hello, blacky! This spruce branch with ornaments is beautiful. I love it. When I look at it I have a feeling of slight rocking, swinging of these shiny balls. And i like that I can feel their weight, they're light, almost weightless, but the tree's branches are very thin and tender, so they sag a bit, And you showed this in this quick sketch. Beautiful! Kudos to you for seeing this and be ably to show this in your drawing.
I like life drawing with forth shortening, your feet, and the drawing of a hand.
And your last portrait, it's very interesting, you look very alert and ready to some energetic action, hair have their own life :).
And i like this colored drawing of a Christmas morning, unwrapping presents. Interesting lighting and boy is curious to look at :). a bit of surreal. I saved him and the spruce branch.
Thank you,

Ahhh, more quirks to view...
I like all of these last self-portraits. I can't quite put my finger on it but, it's weird that the pose is exactly the same yet, there are different feels to each of them. And I don't think that it's because you used different mediums either. Interesting.
I also liked the pencil sketches of the legs and feet. On one of them the big toe needs to be bigger.
Blacky, have a great New Year and I'm looking forward to seeing more quirks in the coming year.

Hey joe!- thanks a ton for letting me know how to change title. I like the new one so much. (Old one was O.K., as vew people would be interested viewing it (which was O.K too) but I wanted to get to page2 soon, realy badly, so I thought I might do some promotion ;) )
tis one picture http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...ashka/abc3.jpg, took me like, uhm, 3-4 min, I guess, am not sure, only remember that my fingers would hurt afterwards since I had rushed the pencil all across the paper, almost in one line. Had a similar one too (but left it at some friends house)
About tis one ; http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...rashka/up1.jpg oh, yea, by now I can't stand it no longer. Am soooo much not happy with it. It deprived me of about 50h of my lifetime already at its completion (the way I want it to be) is still nowhere near in sight, its paint would start to crumple and fall of anytime I have to relocate it (as there already are so many layers of acrylics on top of it) :( , I attached a thumbnail so one could "decipher" details n such.

Ha, ha, "special" quirks, I love it! I got a kick out of that as I was scrolling down. And as part of your inner circle of fans let me help you on your quest for page two...
To the quirks...Among my favorites from the latest few, I like the abc3 sketch, it's simple and raw, but works effectively. Sometimes those are the best sketches. I also like the faces from the last post, they were done nicely. And of course, there is the painting. This is still a work in progress, i take it? I'm glad that you posted a thumbnail for it so that we can see the background. I was having a hard time seeing just what was going on back there. Maybe you could tighten up the background, not too much, though, just a bit to clarify things a bit. That might help. I think that you did a good job with the rib bones directing the eye to the woman and to the explosion at the end of the spine. Very interesting painting.

HAHA---madplanet got the same ERASED MESSAGE thing in my book! we should start an extra exclusive club! :)
i know that you're not feeling the whole painting, and are getting frustrated, but try to see it through until the end. if it isn't for class maybe you could put it aside as "preliminarily finished" and then come back to it later once your anger is subsided.
Your color work is quite sophisticated ( Thanks for posting that big scan / photo btw... much easier to decipher:) ) and i like that it has the saturation of the whole thing is kind of high key. i was listening to a radio program about the artist cezanne today and seeing this painting reminds me so much of what i love about cezanne's work / use of color. the composition and subject here is totally challenging. maybe you could work on another painting or just do some studies in oil while you deliberate on how to finish this bitch up without going berserk? eh? Please keep up the great work friend... it's great to see what you've been up to... a real inspiration!

madplanet- thanks a lot for your steady stream of replies. Always a pleasure.
Yeah, the new name of this thread was obviously inspired by one of
your comments. This one painting is finished as I ran out of time.
Things are rather clear to distinguish, standing in front of it though.
To create depth, through the use of sfumato, was important to me.
Glad you find it interesting. Gives me convidence on trying to do s.th. like that again (sometime)
quircks
guggenmaneuver- glad you like this painting so much. (You're right I could go berserk on it right now) So it is "preliminarily finished" as you put it. (How you got the idea, I had scanned it, it measures 5x6 feet, dood) ;)
Cezanne? Well, I realy don't compare but to hear, my colour work was realy sophisticated, was realy a treat. Thanks. In fact I am going to start a series of monochromatic painting (mostly on jazz) in yellow. So I could work on my colour work still on (reduced coloursheme).

Official enrollment begins now. But anyways, back to the art of Blacky...Nice looking hand studies; the top ones look very Egon Schiele-like, I like those, and the next looks a lot like Hogarth. I think I have a Hogarth hand studies book about the pad. Nice sketch of your mom, that would probably make for a nice painting. Put in a cool background and she should be pleased.

Finaly, this second page got me waiting for quite a while. Now people will hopefully be able to view most recent updates without having to upload the imageheavy first page :)
madplanet-thats a fun game I see us playing. Like tossing a ball back and forth between one another. ( leave a crit at your sb, and you at mine) Thus one can concentrate on latest updates (already knowing of the rest the other person's done) and comment on these. (Instead of leaving "good job" crits)

That Hugarth book you're mentioning, is exactly the one, I did these studies from. Thought I'd have to work on hands some more, so I decided to copy as much from it as time and motivation allows.

Hey man. The whole bouncing back and forth is what it's all about. Bouncing images and ideas back and forth and hopefully something somewhere will stick. I know for myself, I don't see things that others will, so it's nice when someone can tell me what they have noticed good or bad. Plus, it's something to look forward too. Those jazz sketches are nice in that they capture the energy of the group. I miss doing sketches like that. I haven't gone to the coffee shop near my house in awhile; they usually have a guitar player or two that are fun to draw. I'll have to get back there soon. The student sketches are good; they all seem to capture a personality of some kind. I obviously couldn't know just what their personalities are like, but they do seem to capture A personality, some character. The third one down is my favorite.

I did most of these student scetches out of boredom, (have finished all assignments already), but I like em too. It's not necessaryly so, that these kids would have any sort of extraordinairy character, but I just caught em of guard, when they were occupied by s.th.>:D quirks

Keep up the great wurk dood ... I really like even the abstract ones You mean to tell me you don't have a 5 METER wide scanner anywhere around???? haha.... my bad! somehow i assumed it was maybe smaller somehow. hard to judge the scale for me.
the hand studies are looking stellar, though it seems like the knuckles area is a little too wide.

Well, let's just say that you gave those students some personality. You can show them and say, "see, this what it's like!" That will show them.
Your painting is a bit different and I don't know just what to say about it right now, I'll need to see more. The one thing that I do find interesting is the man's green shirt; it's almost like liquid. The hogarth hand studies look good, especiallly the top one. The palm on the second one looks to be too wide, though. I always thought that Hogarth drew his finger tips kind of strange.

Yeah, I'm realy happy about that too (duh..). This one is actually middle part of two other ones I've done (which look too bad right now though) http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/Tcheburashka/brw1.jpg put together these are little more than 4 metres wide, so....well...'ve got to get me one of those 5m scanners ;) . You'r right, those knuckles are too big (exagerated.)
Appreciate your crit. Salutos!
madplanet-thx. Hmm yes, I probably should not have posted those paintings yet as they're not finished. Just wanted to show you guys what I've been up to and what direction these are tacking me. Agreed, the palm's too wide and the way H. drew his hands seems odd, but I think that this exageration, teaches more than "custom" hands drawn by some other artists. Have a good one.

I think that it's good that you are putting up unfinished 'quirks', they show us all in glorious color just what you are doing! Besides, it's interesting seeing the stuff that is a bit different than what you are usually doing. The Carravaggio looks like a good lighting study (an area where I need to work on!), so is that fun to do or was it a chore? Seems like fun. Are those two women fearful of what the artist is painting? Now you have to show us what scandalous image he is shocking them with!

Hello, blacky :). How are you? You are drawing a lot, but I wanted to tell you, maybe you should try some other ways to draw, with short, slow brushstrokes ( or pencils) and careful rendering and look what will happen. You have a lot movement and expressions in your fast sketches, but reality is getting a bit distorted sometimes, to the degree that my eyes don't' recognise it as possible. I might be wrong though, but I wish you were more careful with form sometimes. Still life is all about forms and shapes, in my opinion, not about dynamics. Slow down a bit and try to depict life in some other manner, just to find new ways to express yourself
Jazz musicians are great sketches, the composition could be better, but it's probably just very fast drawings, so they have very nice mood and volume.
Hands studies are wonderful, very similar to Hogarth.
I really like the study of Caravaggio. Lighting, expression and lace are very enjoyable to watch.
I like people sitting around the table a lot, has a nice feeling of everyday life about it.

I hope you will take imy comments easy. Keep drawing alot.

:yayca:Hey hey hey blacky!
(This is the second time i've written this because of some silly firefox forward / back button stupidity i did. :( Guess i will have to make this post even better!)
Here are some thoughts about scale- the scale of those abstract paintings really makes a huge difference... next time you are photographing them you might want to put some small object off frame so that your fans (:groupie2:like me!:groupie2: ) can get some idea of what the scale is. I did a lot of thinking about this a while back and came to the conclusion that a pair of scissors was probably the best thing to use because it's pretty much universal unless someone is from a tribe deep in the rainforest or something.
a ruler, a coin, or anything else really is quite difficult to translate the size of for people who've never seen an American Dollar, or don't use inches. this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/guggenmaneuver/030-2i2005.jpg) is an example of a place in my sketchbook where i did this to demonstrate the scale. because everyone has hands and uses scissors, it's hard to imagine that someone wouldn't be able to guess the scale. Scale is so important that it certainly affects the crits and suggestions of people who see your work here.
this 'un (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e197/Insulaner/up1.jpg) is looking pretty awesome. when i first saw it, i thought that the blonde guy at the right side of the table was some waify-kurt-cobain-type snorting cocaine off the table... on second glance i realized that in actuality, he was furiously drawing really intensely in his sketchbook--a much more rewarding and valid pursuit! Is this a scene from one of your drawing classes?
I agree with what sve's analysis regarding your style of drawing ... I totally love the intensity and the way that you are using the stroke economy concept to enhance your work and save time, but feel that sometimes you are working too fast. For instance, in this one (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e197/Insulaner/up2.jpg) i don't think it is helpful for you for me to say that the painter is kind of problematic anatomically. You know this. The speed with which you are painting is preventing the figures from a proper development. That said, i DO really like the very varied color palette which you employ and that crazy looking woman behind the painter totally TRIPS ME OUT! :) :) :) it seems like your work has some of the stylization that was so gorgeous about francisco goya's work; have you ever tried to copy any of his stuff just to learn? him or the really nice portraits and sketches by Daumier. I know you are from germany, but i'm seeing some similarities there. I'd like to see the faces that you draw get better with anatomy and expression... your painting technique applied to a knowing anatomical rendering of a face would be quite awesome :)
you should post some ofyour stuff on the toned paper that you mentioned in my SB--
PURPLE PAPER POSSE FOREVER! I will be back soon friend! Keep the BURNING Blacky METEOR BLAZING!

madplanet- thx, the Cravagio was a chore, and lots of fun too. Was my first time trying to controll acrylics some more (before that, all that would come out, would be nonintentional quircks ;) ) I added the two girls because this guy from my artclass has got a napoleon-complex. He's a macho too (in a very funny way). The shocking masterpiece he was working on, was a picture of myself......it realy turned out horrible (we were painting each other, painting :)). Guess mine turned out like some sort of carricature. Cheers.
sve- (hugs n kisses) thx, I'm fine. I wish I could draw more as scool, sports and work's depriving me of most sparetime. I do try to scwitch mediums and try new things, but you are totaly right, I should get back on solid fround again. ('ve been flying around experimenting for quite a while now, time to get a new load of basics and reality shoved up my forehead :) )
Yup, I totally rushed myself on those Jazz scetches, (have a faible for quantity instead of for quality). I am planing on making some paintings about jazz (in about a month or so). So I'll try being more carefull with those.
Thanks for your crits, very much appreciated. Am not at all upset when people point out my weaknesses. These are like medicine, bitter, but very healthy :)
joe!-sorry to hear you had to post twice, you're an awesome fan. (Am one of you too, though :dur: )
I get what you're talking about concerning importance of scale (me idiot, was thinking, people could tell, by the widh of brushstokes....:nohope: )
Can't wait to get back to my artclass at scool, to tell this girl, bout the curt-cobain point of view. She's gona laugh her &%# off. (I did). She's quite talanted, would in fact be a decant artist, had she the motivation to draw more. She's giving much thought on shading, details and clarity. You and sve are right, should concentrate on such things too. Glad you liked my "stylazation" and the colours. In fact, Goya is one of my favourite artists. A study on one of his works is yet to come, as I was hoping the exhebition of his works in Berlin, would be relocated to Hamburg some time. So I could study those beaties "life" :)
Haven't done refed face studies for ever. Will have to start some on the scull model I have. Thanks a lot for your input here, greatly appreciated.

I like the third figure down from the first post; he has an interesting look to him, however I don't think that that background works too well, it's kind of distracting and takes away from his quirkiness. See, how I worked that one in there? The pencil sketches look good and they look like you spent some more time on them. And I like how you do the Hogarth hand studies; they are Hogarth all the way, but you definitely add something to them. They almost look creepy in a way. Cool.

Heads are sometimes are a bit too small in your drawings comparing to bodies.
Hands studies are wonderful, interesting that you chose this Hogarth hands, I think they are very dynamic, like most of your art.
Jazz musicians are great and if you put them closer they will look even better I think.

You know, membership cards for the Blacky fanclub that you were talking about. Kind of like the CA cards, but just a little more exclusive.Ha, ha.
Your pencil sketches are really freakin' good. The guy with the book, the self-portrait and the one of your ma are the ones that really stand out. Sometimes, I think that your pencil sketches show us a bit more personality than some of the more finished stuff and that's not a bad thing at all. That monkey thing with the boxing gloves looked like a lobster when I first saw it, so I thought that it was going to be a lobster still life...but I guess it's more of a monkey/boxing glove kind of still life. Good stuff, man.

Heroic- wow, that reply was so much fun to read. Great combo of critique and encouragement. Thanks a ton. Will do try to improve still on the way you described it.
That fat kid- aint am sure how I might slow down on ink and pastell ones (as Y usualy have only 10min.), but I'm glad you're liking my stuff enough to check on by again and help me out with some crit. So, I'll try to slow down whenever the time for it would be given. Prcision realy seems to be a weakpoint of mine right now. Cheers
Shylone_Breath- Oh, you're very welcome to get to know my sb ;). Glad you're liking it so far. I used to be shy when it came to scetch people at public places, but after a while you get used to it. I never had a "model" that would be like: "Stop drawing me, I feel uneasy about it!" Even when they do feel uneasy about it, they never tell you. So I aint am afraid someone could physicly harm me for scetching him/ her. In fact, the angrier they get, the more interesting the scetches turn out. Eye contact involves viewer into the drawing. It's like comunication. I am not trying to get on peoples nerves intentionaly though. I want them to come out as natural as possible. As a practice you could ask your friends or relatives to pose for you.

Oooh, a customed designed Blacky membership card! Well, obviously it would have to be quirky, but other than that I'd have to think about it.
I like the sleeping dog (that's yours I take it?), but he almost seems to be floating above the floor. The only time I can sketch my dogs is when they are sleeping or from a photo. I like the jazz club sketches too (what's that second guy doing?), so were they discussing politics with the crowd or just among themselves? It's kind of funny hearing it on this end, but I wasn't there, so I don't know how mad I would have been. Bums. That skull was done very nicely, but I would try to make the eye sockets and nose a lot darker. Great updates, keep 'em coming.

Glad you liked the Jazz guy, tried to slow down some on these. The second guy's the same as first one, except that he's having a beer :). They were having a break and since I was the only guest to their show, they didn't feel like playing on and got cought up in a discussion on Europian imigration policy compared to the one of US (Way too many Mexicans, Latinoes n so on...bla, blah) and Newzealand (those guys barely let anybody in. They also discussed Hamazes victory in Palastine and Iranian nuce plans n so on. T was quite interesting actually. Knew most stuff anyway and would have prefered to watch em play still. Hello, Blacky. Awesome update, you are generous fellow. Love you variety.
Was reading your comments with great interest too :). Funny stuff :). Come to hear music and ended up listen complains about emigrations policy. Well, well, talk about emigration, Germany has a funny one too.... :) hehehe, Relax, blacky, I'll give you a break from politics, I'm in a kind mood today :).
Love the portrait of your mom. She looks very sweet, probably, not very chatty woman, calm, in control of herself, not very social and devoted to her family. Has a bit bitter folds near the corners of her accurate little mouth and small wrinkle between her eyebrows. Not very fashion conscious, probably, likes functional clothing more :). like you :). Nice portrait, has a very sweetmood about it.
I like your SP, all of them, especially the honest one, looks very much alive. Not sure what dollar sign means. You like it or something? hehehe
In the room painting I like colors a lot, especially the color and texture of your wood table, very truthful. Very pleasant painting in whole, your room, so personal and private, and silent. Your castle, love it :).
Man sitting and reading in the subway is wonderful, I can tell a lot about him, and about this day. I see this bus (or train) in motion, slightly swinging his body and your hand on the sketch book. It's pretty cold in the wagon. Actually I feel a cold weather in all your recent drawings.
I like the skulls you drew, especially the first and last one, very good volume in it. You know, the drawing from ref looks very good from you, I even think it's probably better then ref. Your last one looks like he is ready to give some words of wisdom.
Love the feeling of the current moment in your art: the girl reading a letter (or note), bums, portraits, dogs, all of it really give me the feeling being near me and being right now. Wonderful and rare quality, blacky.
So great update, I love all of it.
Wish you told me more about my underwater study, I feel a lot of wrong, but what could be done to improve? I just like to get this feeling of non gravity work.

Wow, how did I miss this before? Great stuff dude, I am fascinated by the experimentation and variety of style in this sketchbook. Really great work overall!
You use colour very expressively, my only crit here is that in this use of colour, you often sacrifice value and form to show these colours. I'd like to see maybe a bit stronger focus on value alongside the expressive colour.
PLease keep up the studies, self portraits and everything in between!

It may be just me, but on these last few drawings they seem to be a bit darker (line-wise) and confident. They really pop out at you. Maybe more time was spent on the hands, eye, and sp?
Ok, here's an idea for a Blacky membership card---of course, it has to have something unique from your end (quirky), but you could start with a deep sea diver or something of a crazy, mad planet. There you go.

Thanks to all of you that took a look
sve-the way you described my mom, could be perfect describtion of my dad and complete opposite of my mom. Ha, ha, real funny. She simply was real tired and occupied when I drew her :). I love dollar sings could draw em all day, (would do, did it do me any good). Yep, my room's my castle. Looks like a scrapyard at times, but thats when I like it most (me chaotic goof). How can you tell it's real cold round here? Does it realy show? Wow. It is realy nice to have an own scullimitation around. Will keep those studies on't up. Am very glad you're enjoying my stuff so much. Did comment on your underwaterpic already. :)
Heroic-thx a lot for stopping by again, appreciate it a lot. One of the reasons I picked up doing more stuff in pencil, was actualy to improve my hatching. You're totally right on your crit. Will have to workon it some more.
SirGreenSock- You've got a realy funny name, and your crits are always very helpfull wherever you post. So, I'm glad you posted in here samewell. Form and value-study on its way :)
Orosco- Thank you. Am honed to have you stop by here.
Fooxoo-Like your new avatar, your replies are pleasant to read too. thx

Gues I'll have to cut short the time planed on this membership card from 3 weeks to....hmmm..2! Great proposition of yours. I love scuba diving. Will go with it. I really love that skull pic, what was that done with? Looks like a mix between acrylic and pastel, maybe goauche? Was it done from ref?
Figures look great, very interesting poses, although some have balance problems, try maybe drawing a line of action or a gesture beforehand to ensure theyre balanced.

blackythe last several updates: -->very, very impressive! And I love the peak inside your studio / working space. the pencil portraits, self and of your mother are looking very, very nice. this skull drawing (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e197/Insulaner/scull3.jpg) is looking freaking excellent. It seems like you are starting to maybe strike some balance between the working really quick tendency and to do more focused observational type drawings ... This is something that i have a difficult time with in my own work; maybe you can share YR secrets on how you do it? For instance, if you had this piece (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e197/Insulaner/mom2.jpg) and this piece (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/KriwoyRog/assignment.jpg) side by side and showed them to a stranger, he or she would not think that they were by the same person! They'd be totally blown away i think. this is what i love about your artwork and why i think it is so special that you are sharing your improvement with us conceptart people.
very nice hand studies by the way (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/KriwoyRog/hand68.jpg)... they are getting better!

I agree with Guggen that sometimes your work looks as though it was done by different people. It's artistic Sybil-ness, hehe. I'm really diggin' the colored arm and hand study. That turned out nice and so did the skull. You do those skulls well, my friend.

Hello, Blacky :). hehehe, wrong parent? :). well. at least, I didn't go beyond your family. My dad is a major introvert too.
Well, I might be wrong, but yeah, I feel a lot of cold weather in your last images. But really it's not hard to see. Look how many wool textures you got in your artwork later. And poses of people. They are not opening up, they're trying to bend, make themselves smaller, hide their bodies from the wind.
In your last update I like the idea of a hammer and a gripper. it's funny and witty and ironic, as I see it. Such a waste of time and energy. Very cool. I love the simplicity of the figures. It was a little bit hard to recognise at first though, maybe a bit more define lines would be better, but overall, I love it, it's a great idea.
Thank you so much for being such a great friend and helping me with underwater study, I appreciate it hugely and agree on every word. I will continue to try.

Oh, ha...10 replies. :)
SirGreenSock- I have an own scul(replica)l at hope (me lucky chap). Did the study with white guache on watercoulourpaper, toned black with ink and watercolours. Those figures were random doodles, thanks for pointing balance problems out, will have to get a better feeling for that. Thx for stopping by.
Heroic- Hey, thanks a lot for the kind words, will work on some more handstudies for sure, didn't get this done until this update though (among other things). Interesting advise you got for me, will have to give it a try.
Thefatkid- thx for droping in, those werent lifedrawings but random doodles, I felt I had improved on (in comparison to the doodles I used to do), so I posted em. I will definately have to do a precise drawing of sth. somewhen but not in near future I guess, am working on some rather precise sp and lifedrawing in acrylics right now.
OroscO- Hey, that's very, very encouraging. Thank you.
Guggenmaneuver- Eye Joe, very nice reply you wrote. Made my day. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to send you a PM (thanks for the one from you) there seems to be a problem with the server.
Oh, and........Doublepost: 1up! and 500 Points, congrats.
and that "Joel blacky fan club member, checking in" one, gave me quite a laugh :)
madplanet- Thanks a lot for your support. Artistic Sybill-ness ? hmm..sound like a good name for my sb (he,he). Yea I try to come up with as much difersity as I can. quirks
Serpian-thanks for the ecouraging word, am trying to work harder whenever time is given (still am too lazy, though)
sve- Hey, sveta it's always a treat to read your replies. They give a lot of helpful insight. Am very glad you were able to read what the Hammer and Gripper-pic was supposed to say, not sure too many people did. An area for me to work on still.
It's slowly getting wormer, so people will hopefully open some more.
Criticising your underwaterpicture was actualy a healthy exercise for me. I love scubadiving, should do a picture on it some time. So having some thoughts about it, I'll hopefully know what problems to watch out for. So long..
darkchild-Thanks for checking out mine too. Glad you're liking it. The veyron one got soaked in te rain (parialy) so it created a nice effect. Like it too.

Hey Blacky, I'm really lovin' all of these last figure sketches. You've simplified them and caught the pose with minimal line use and done a great job at that. Wonderful update, Blacky, just wonderful. Many of these images could be great illustrations for a book. I'm enjoying them very, very much.
Especially I like the first one. It has wonderful perspective and people are alive, I just feel they are near me, it's happening right now.
Well this actually one of your strongest qualities, your art is very involving and has a great feeling of current moment. Proportions are very nice too.
People sitting and sleeping in moving bus. As always I can tell it from your drawing. Amazing ability to show movement and hint on what's going on around. you do it like nobody else. So this guy with his leg up is awesome, I can see his age, his social position and him using this hour to relax a bit, looks like life is getting to him.
Him again, still very removed from reality around him. I love those sketches, saved them.
All musicians are great too, well, it's hard to criticize, too many information one can extract from your fast drawings, so sorry, not much I can find. I would say though, you can make your lines more varied. Yours are mostly curvy and long. You can add short, straight and strict, let's see what happens after that, if you are willing to try.
The last sketch is wonderful too. Is it from imagination? where did you find the kid dressed so warm?
I'm wondering how your sketches will be if you try to color them, but for the contrast color them in careful, slow manner and in colors maximum close to natural, to fit the mood in your drawings. No pressure to do it though.
So thank you,
Sveta

Glad so many of you responded to such a tiny post of mine. Thanks.
madplanet-Thanks a lot for your "asspats". Was having a bad time lest couple of days over, so I didn't mind em at all. Membershipcards the way they were supposed to get done are endangered right now though. (Scoolstress :( )
mentler-Appreciate it, will have to go out and about way more often once it gets warmer.
sve- Your replies are awesome. Thanks. I drew this guy (who's sleeping) directly after Jazznight in the sub. It was great as I was all warmed up and ready to draw, and what happens? When I enter the wagon I notice this beatifuly sleepy guy, who's presence was so very expressive that one could not, but draw him. I probably was the only person around to realise the beaty of the scene...but it was sheer fun drawing him nevertheless.
Am not sure about what to do with my lines. On the one hand I'd like to give your suggestion a try, on the other hand my artteacher wants me to draw even longer lines, as he's a huge Fan of Egon Schiele.
Last kiddies were from imagination, samewell done in a sub.
Should make a picture of what our subs in Germany look like (We've got TV's in there :) ) and post it in the "Show your studio"- thread.
Concerning colouring....don't know, todays update has one of these, but I could get back to it, once I start drawing outside.
Pennington- ten mark? realy...damn I knew I had forgotten something...lol. Thanks man.
Farvus- I suck at shading, thats why I do ultrafast scetches ;). Glad you liked em.
timpaatkins-Hey, it's tim! How you're doing. Will have to check if you're still doing dayly sb's (Hope so). Thanks for your kind words. Made my day.

Hello. Blacky, you describe the scene in the sub perfectly. Great advertisement. I don't like the feeling of envy, it's destructive in its nature, I think. So, not an envy, but I sure wish I was in this moment in this sub too and with something to draw on. What an ideal moment. An artist and a model, and no one to disrupt, and the model is so relaxed, he will sit unmoved forever. Beautiful, indeed.
If your teacher tells your to go for long lines, well, what can be done? Nothing. Follow the professional, if you trust him. Just I think it's a good thing to try all approaches too. To never stop to surprise your viewer and yourself, you know.
And I can add that if you know your weakness ( you said it's a rendering, in your case) well, you need to jump on it and make it better. Although knowing your weak sides is the first important thing, in my opinion. So respect from me, blacky and now try to work on it :).
My favorite in new update are:
the Adam and Eve, lovely lines and contrast in the two figures, and I like the smooth delicate manner. You somehow did manage to save this baroque sensation, even though your drawing does have the contemporary feeling too. And I have to say you were on the borders to make it too loose , but you managed to keep it delicate, I think.
The same applies to cupids too.
I like your still life for the cold feeling of the plate, glass and bottle. It feels right. That's how I think it will be when I touched them. cold, smooth, polished.
Heroin addict, well, that's funny approach and a bit spooky. Looks like he dancing under influence or from pain of wounding his hand with shot, or both. Crazy feeling of pain and ecstasy. Dancing, incapable to stay still.
Your portrait is wonderful. Well I love blue, it's deep and moody, nothing better to show your out of world state of mind, I think. Love how you did texture of your hair and the beard. Love the expression of your face.
So thanks,
Sveta

glikster-thanks, I'll have to adjust leftupper corner still on't, but I like it a lot too :)
sve-Can't thank you enough for your input here and am sure I am by far not the only one endebted to you. You are awesome, I know you said the very same thing about me some time, but no, it is you of the two of us that deserves a Thank-you the most.
I will be working on my rendering and my lines, will sure tacke some time though to loosen up old habbits. My teacher liked the portrait too and even "allowed" me to put it into my future portfolio for application at artscool in November. Thus making it to the second picture I had ever done, that my future portfolio contains so far. Such a potfolio is supposed to have about 30 pictures :( . I could post the other one he "approved" if you wish, but it's real old. Like from 3-4 years ago. Besides, there are also two pictures he liked too, but he said they need to be redone in order to become viewable. You guys don't know em eather but I'll post em as soon as they'll get redone :).
Joel-ha, ha....I actualy was listening to the soundtrack of Requiem For A Dream while making it. Love Requiems, have Mozart's on repeat quite often. Strangely they don't make me sad but give me energy and inspiration instead.
The picture was an assignment and since my teacher diged the drawing itself but disaproved of how I arranged things, specialy concerning colour and intention/ idea, I'll have to redo it. So should you have liked this one, wait for the new, improved version ;).
All my final exams at scool are over!!!
YAY!!
Will still have to go to scool for a couple of month and get grades, but.....
YAY!!
Yesterday was last one of em. Fortunately it was my artclass and I won't have to worry about bad grades on that one.
Since they keep the pictures done at the exam for the next 5 years, I took a hasty shot of it. But flashlight distorted it real bad, specialy whitish area on top of center woodhead. The assignment was View Out Of The Window. 3h. Acrylics.

Hey, Blacky, read about your teacher, sitting here with an open mouth. Two out of all?! OMG! :x . I don't know what to say. I'm not qualified to say it's a total rubbish, he is, but still it's strange to the most for me. I'm telling you honestly. I was so excited when I suddenly found your book back then. Most of your musicians, your mom's portrait, man in sub, many of your nudes.
I would include all of this in your portfolio. The first four are the must, in my opinion
Of course, please show me everything that you have. Now hearing about your teacher personality I want to see what he allowed. Damn.
In your new update my favorites are the last two drawings, they look ready to be colored. But they are beautiful anyway. May I ask how long did it take to draw them? Lovely, I can hear the light bit from the drummer (well, he is holding the drum sticks lightly and not to high) and I can hear the energetic trombone. I have to say, please, don't lose your fast lines in searching for the best. I love it in you.
I like the first panting. It's has a feeling, lyrical and I like the illusion of slowly moving cars behind the glass. And the colors are very truthful, I do believe that the road will be this shade of grey in the cold day like this.
I might add that I think it would be better if the sculptures on the foreground had sharper borders than the rest, well, you know to help the eyes to understand the distance. And I don't get what are they made from. Textures are not very definite. But i like the colors and composition very much. And it has a nice, a bit sad mood.
And btw I like the fast sketches from the party too, they carry the information how you start your drawing and from where you start. Heads.
See you, blacky :).

Hey Blacky, at first I didn't know what to think of that painting of the window, but after looking at it awhile I realized that you provided a sense of depth very well. Those cars almost moved on me! Very successful image. The last two sketches are very nice also, very alive.

cool linework, a couple of comments about it though.. it seems like you're too shakey and timid with it, putting a lot of wavy curves where a straighter line would be more apropriate.. theres no reason to try to record every lump, as a matter of fact the less you have to leave in the better... its part of what people talk about when they talk about "editing"...

Hey blacky, what up? The jazz sketches are wicked man. I think its a good point drawing people playing instruments from life, cause usually people draw usual things, someone walking in the park or street, or in a pub.
Keep it up yo! :yayca:

Thanks for the replies ya all.
sve-I know what you mean. When I first showed him most of my works in November and he'd tell me that the only pic so far suitable for a portfolio was one, I had done 4 years ago.....I was realy shocked too. But by now I realized that the thing is, that he and I perfactly know that I most likely will get accepted at that artscool. He simply wanted my portfolio become the best I could do and thus eventualy one of the best among any other contastants. I realy think he can teach me a lot. Here's a portrait by one of his twin sons (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f376/Smulko/matveyarabota.jpg) (he's 18 ) it got sold for 500$.
Here is the picture he approved of being implemented into my portfolio to be: Bazar (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f376/Smulko/bazar.jpg)
And here are two pictures he wanted me to redo, so I could use em too:
Red Handkerchiev (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f376/Smulko/cominghome.jpg) done 5 years ago
Primadona (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f376/Smulko/elephant.jpg) half a year ago.
Furthermore he said that putting some of my jazzscetches in there would be a good idea too. The other stuff he wants me yet to do is a mass of quick inkwash or colour scetches of people out in the streets (scenes), scetches at the zoo, of architecture, landscapes, couple of portraits and perhaps what ever interesting I might come with in future.
He's from St. Petersburg and his twinsons got accepted at the artscool I want to attend, receiving best grades of all contastents (about 700). Having (expansive) private classes with him gives me furthermore the chance to hang out with his sons some time too. I've known em before, and they're hell interesting people. (Recite Puschkin to each other all the time or old latin sayings n such).
Concerning picture I did for exam, the camera distorted it a lot, it's way easier to read in real life I think. But, yeah, the wooden totem thingies in the foreground came out rather weird and undefined cuz I made em real quick and wanted to make the picture more interesting to look at (contrast to greyish reality behind window n such...)
Thanks a lot for your comments. I value them a lot.
madplanet-Thanks a lot. I was trying to achieve that sort of depth in the painting as it was part of what I felt was being asked for at the Exams. Makes me glad to hear it shows to you. Thus I can look forward to a good grade more easily now. There's a funny story to the last scetch. I sat down at the sub and started scetching this realy interesting looking guy. Then there was an anouncement that I had to tacke an other sub for some reason. So I ran out and catched the other sub. I was real pissed cuz I hadn't been able to finish scetching this guy. Suddenly a man jumped into the wagon right before the doors closed and walked right past me. I turned around and realized it was the same guy and he was standing there in the exact same possition as in the previous sub. So I could continue right from where I had stopped. (people around me where wondering how I got him down on paper so fast ;) )
Main Loop- Hey man, great crit. Thanks a lot. Will have to watch out for my line economy and quality some more in future. I realy tend to get real shacky at times, out of control and reason so to speak. As if I was in some kind of trance n such.
jtheanswer- I have yet to draw some people in the pub:rolleyes:. But hey, reriously I also thinks that those Jazzscetches do me a lot of good. Very glad to hear you like em. Besides....you live in La Palmas, right? You ought have a lot of "models" around too. Think of all the people at the beach for example or those crazy Tourists at the nightclubs. Hey Blacky, that's a great story and how lucky were you? That's funny how he took the same pose. The guy reading the paper is really good; that's a good sketch. The self-portrait is really cool, it reminds me of something that is found in the beginning of a book. Very dramatic use of color.

Hey, blacky, I closed my mouth and now as calm as cucumber. It's nothing that could be done, your art teacher and I have too different preferences. He probably knows what he's doing, but I like different sides of you. The guy seems to be fascinated with originality and fast talking colors. I appreciate it a lot, but I do the same with much milder effects too, and form is still very important too me. The paintings you kindly showed to me talk through the colors, they are very dynamic. But when you use the same way to express yourself in art, and actually a bit one level way, it's getting monotone too, even with such a bold vivid colors. It's like the modern architecture, skyscrapers, a lot of windows on the huge buildings, very intimidating, but eye recognises the small given to it information very fast and after that it's boring. But look at some old church or Rome ancient history buildings. There are a lot information for eyes and brains in colors, textures, rhythm, composition, bricks, arcs, steps... I hope I'm making sense, not sure about this, though.
In the paintings you showed me I like the Bazar, although it is done in style of primitivism. But it is sincere, so I like it. You probably know about this direction in art. I like the art of Niko Pirosmani, here the link, if you are willing to look at it.
http://georgiacult.fromru.com/man01.htm
I like the portrait of the twin too, because of the expression of the face, it's yours, right?
In the "Red Handkerchief" I like the perspective, but I'm not so fond of the composition. Seems like it's about separation, and sadness, and long lonely road ahead, not very pleasant one for the guy in black. Colors are worrisome. but.... I don't know. It doesn't look as the one unified composition to me. But what do I know.
The dancing elephant is actually pretty cool, with a perspective and phantasmagorical mood, a bit crazy one. But again the forms are not defined and you're making your viewer's eyes guess what this form is, and this in every object, in every thing, it's a bit too harsh and distracting, and annoying. But I like this painting, it has a story, and just adding some suggestive lines to define form would make it kinder to my eyes. The border to balance is very near, in my opinion. The mood is awesome though. Sorry beforehead for all this crits, it's intruding in creative process, the ugly thing, I'm sorry.
In your new update I like the SP, The dog (! :)), two sleeping beauties, the guy with a newspaper, and the boat.
The last picture, well, i do like the idea all the same, but this careless form drawing, well, it's very distracting from the essence of the picture. The more simplified the drawing the more careful you should be with making it believable and precise, I think. You're removing an information, the rest should be clear then, recognisable. That's what I think. The tube looks very distorted. I focus on recognising it, and ignore the message you want to carry to me through the picture.
The dog is great, a very nice volume and very sweet mood, I just feel its warm breathing, rising and falling tummy, I feel the strong impulse to go and scratch it. I always do that with all dogs. Wonderful gravity in this piece, Blacky, you are really have a sensative, observing eyes and very smart brains, so great.
Sleeping people are nicely caught too, very natural looking.
I like the drawing with boat for variety of lines. it's tasteful, at least for me.
And your portrait is very dreamy. Like a memory.
So thank you very much

blacky---are you about to drop an update on us? i see that you are online as well... doesn't matter... I can definitely come in and add some critique / praise for the lovely art drop you are planning. This is looking really nice, would certainly love to see more portraits like this, if you don't mind.
OK... I think that this (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f376/Smulko/grippernhammer2.jpg) is looking really fantastic, though I think that it needs to have some ink treatment and cleaner more mechanical lines to really drive the idea home. The elipse around which this thing is rotating / driving nails into isn't right; using some template to trace them might have saved you some time and frustration. All of your subway studies are really nice, especially sleepy old guy here (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f376/Smulko/subway4.jpg) and my grandfather (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f376/Smulko/subway.jpg) look very impressive. keep up the fantastic work... will be back soon!
Actually, Ha ha... i posted my reply and then your new update was here! That's so nice that you are getting to see a Rodin exhibition--> I have actually been trying to figure out what i will draw next wednesday night and I think that i'll go study from the Rodin sculpture outdoors here in Atlanta. Thanks for the idea (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f376/Smulko/Rodin2.jpg), chump :). the memory of iron mining and the bathing II are really impressive... Heroic- hey man, thanks for dropping by again. Nice crit, I feel at times like I'd have to prescetch things more often to get em right in the end. Will have to make an update extra for all the stuff I'd have to actually finaly finish. I mean, I will finish the G. and Hammer pic, but It'll tacke some time til I post it.
madplanet- When I did the last sp, I was simply keeping in mind the things that my artteacher had been talking about recently. After showing it to him he was quite pleased with it too. Will have to make more stuff of the like I guess. I wont be able to neather update nor check anybodies updates for a while as I'm off to Greece (Yay) for 2 weeks. Always a pleasure to have you drop by though.
Mentler- I'm having trouble understanding your quote.....The way I tacke it is, that you thought I wasn't pleased with my instruckor. But actually I couldn't be more pleased with him. I just sound at times like I felt like he was teaching me bull and wouldn't value my work. Well, he's simply a very serious guy who asspats close to never ever. All I hear from him is, do this or that better and this or that is crap. Do it again. .....That's depressing but samewise the best that he could tell me. I'm paying him 20 bucks per 1.5h after all (have to work for 4h for that (crap job)). So he's the brightest star I've got right now. Thanks a lot for leaving your comment in here. I collect em like rare baseballcards ;)
Sirio_Brozzi- Thanks. It's important to me to keep experimenting. Glad you liked my works.
sve-I totally agree with most things you were saying. Great analysis. I'll try to make a longer reply to it in a couple of weeks (when I'll be back from Greece). Right now I'm real tired and not in the mood of long replies (sorry). It's real great though how you critisized my older stuff. To my defense though; at that time I simply did know too litle about principles of art and these paintings illustrate the best I could do at a certain age. I wouldn't even know what primitivism was (thx for the link, will come back to it later). Actually there's a lot I'd like to tell and discuss with you in more detail but as I said....I'm being lazy (actualy am at work after I ought have shut down this place quite some tome ago and be gone home (awfull english I know). And replieng to your replies is also always so hard (in a good way I mean) I wouldn't dare write something simple or smaltalkish to you. So....wish me luck for my Greecetrip, I'm sure I'll have tons to report about it in about 2.5 weeks.
guggenmaneuver-lol, thats funny. The only reason I was online yesterday was to drop a post, you noticed I were online thinking I was being lazy and not working on any new artworks and wanted me to update not realizing I was doing the later at that moment. I agree with what you're saying on the Hammer and Gripper one. Might actualy do third version in bout half a year or so...me damn perfectionist. It had been first time I encountered some Rodin works. It blew me away. That guy was a genious. I'm a fan now. You definately ought make some studies of him since you seem to have the chance to samewell. In case you haven't heard, which is quiete likely cuz me lazy bum haven't told you yet, I'm gonna spent two weeks in Greece, so It'll be a while till I'll check back on Ca an all. So, you keep drawing some cool stuff during that timespan for me to crit and I on own behalf will be back with some ancient Greek stuff (hopefully). Cheers.

Hello, blacky. First of all, I wish you safe and wonderful journey! I'm happy for you! That's a greatest thing: traveling, I hope you will have a great fun and see a lot. I would love to hear about it from you.
The second thing, I ask you very persistently: could you drop this nonsense about thinking what to write to me. What do you mean you wouldn't dare???? :x Who am I, for you to do such a strange thing. I never enjoy these things.
The fun is to talk openly and laugh.
And you don't have to write to me if you don't feel like it. I don't expect anything from you. I value your opinion, because you see things in a very interesting light, different from mine. You noticed a lot. I value this free exchange of opinions and information.
In the post before I like the Rodin' s Thinker a lot. just very nice depiction of his state of mind, in your own style, very cool. The first image looks a bit flat to me.
In the third image i like how you caught the sensation of cast iron, very believable. And his torso looks nice too.
I like the little drawing of the satyr and nymph, it's beautiful, I like the soft lighting and dynamics in poses. Like the difference in the rough male and mild female bodies (you did the same thing before in the Adam and Eve).
Jazz man is great. Very good volume of the contrabass and I can feel the guy tapping his foot in rhythm. That's great, you are one of not many people on the forum who can show the sounds and motion in your drawings.
Iron mining in Ukraine I like the mood and colors and perspective and the pose, but you know, I think the figure could be done much better, the hand for example.
The acrylic still life is wonderful, I love everything in it, especially volume, colors and cold air. I like the texture on the bucket very much.
I'll continue tomorrow. it's too late at night now.
Edit: In the last two paintings are like this dangerous worrisome red color. The mood is great in both pieces, I think. Especially the first painting makes me uneasy about the events depicted. Something is not good happening.

Rodin and now off to Greece! Are you trying to kill me here, or what? I'm hoping to see lots of great sketches from your trip. Wow, Greece. So, where was the Rodin exhibit held? The one here just ended at the beginning of Feb, so I went one last time to get my fix. The sketches that you did from that show are very nice and you do such a great job with the backgrounds that the figures really pop out, so good job!
The iron mining sketch is a good mood piece. It left me with a feeling of loneliness and desolation. Maybe that's just part of the life of a miner, I guess.
Here's hoping for a great trip to Greece.

Dude, i'm going to do some studies of the Rodin sculpture for ya... His stuff is totally over the top. My figurative sculputure class way back in college was saying that in order to make his sculptures more interesting, he'd actually get really close to the model and then model say a hand or a foot, just to play with scale and give it that signature rodin looky lookiness
cheers and thanks for your dropping loads of sketchbook bombs!

Phuw....am back again.
Thanks a lot for all of your replies, will return favour as soon as possible.
Asoir- Thanks, I myself was surprised how nice it would come out like, out of my head. I really did enjoy Greece. T'was awesome
Pennington- Yup, fun it was indeed. Wish I had spend some more time on art while being there though. I start feeling real comfortable with inkwashes. Thanks.
sve- I've read your reply like 5 times over and enjoyed it more and more any time I did. Thanks a ton. I'm glad you liked the Rodinstudies so much. That guy became one of my favourite sculpors right now. Alongside with Michael Angelo, Whoever did Lacoon, Bernini and Picasso. You where right on your crits too. I ought have added some more volume on some of em and contours where nonapropriate on some of em too. (My teachers oppinion).
I like how Jazzguy turned out like too. Actually am afraid too finish it not to mess it up again n such.
Ironmining scetch was done to try out creating depth with inks. Agree on figure, I rushed him and thus messed him up.
When doing the stillife, I was being real careful and conservative for a while till I loosened up and droped some colours and action down on it. Interesting experience. I love it too. Hadn't expected it to look so nice in the end. When I started out with it, the task appeared real boring to me.
Those last two inkwashes where scetches bout the new topic at scool I chose so far, which would be Requiem. Haven't made up a concept or a decent idea yet. First one's too packed with stuff and too unclear though.
Concerning Greece.........I know you'd like to hear about it, but that's such a long story....I'll have to post some sort of report about it on the weekend or something for everybody who wishes so to read. I might tell you so far though, that it was great and that whe've been to Athen, Corinth, Mycena, Sparta, Sea and Taigheosmountains. I have about a dozen of pictures yet to finish and/or upload, too. My parents are gone to the Canarian Isles (for 2 weeks) and they took our camera with em. So I can't upload those works right now anyway. ´N other bad news is, that I lost a scetchbook with about 20-25 scetches on the bus :( .
Till later.
OroszO- thanks, he aint banging though, he's just trying to get his hamster out of there ;)
foxoo-heloo, foxoo.....always nice to have you drop by. Hope my teacher's going to be of same high oppinion bout my exampainting as you are. Bought myself a new inkrollpen, has a nice feel to it. (did the sub-guy with it) My other artteacher despites pens though. He says their lines are "dead" n stuff (wtf).
madplanet- Hey Bruce. thanks for the friendly words. The Rodin exhibit was held here in Hamburg. Hamburg has nice exhibits quite often, I merely need to visit em more often. Hey, speaking to you reminds me of my promise to do those membershipcards....damn, time's passing so quick. Somebody kick me in the but to make it move please. I've been a little bit lazy in Greece too. Although I have 12 pictures done (or started) there, yet to display some time and although I lost 20-25 scetches on the bus...., I drew less on that trip than on the one to Italy in Summer :( . Will have to make a report bout trip itself some time soon though (for those who are interested). T'was great.
Oh, and concirning mining-pic, some of my grandparents where working at such mines. So, my childhood memories made me paint it. Glad you liked it. Althou sve's right. I ought have done figure better.
guggen- Hey, Joe. You're too late ;). had you posted your reply before sve and madplanet, I would have told you in full detail bout Greecetrip (so far). But I'm too tired right now. Sorry. Please have a look at my replies concerning Greece to sve and mad.
Damn, I just realized that I haven't checked your guys' scetchbooks for ages. You wanting to go scetch some Rodin sounds awesome. I rcently heard that he had some sort of photographic memory. He could model, say, a face with one hand while holding a pipe in the other one and giving an interview to some guy, barely having a look at his work.
Cheers
That fat kid- Shoot me! Cuz I DID NOT draw like a madman. I know I should have. Gave up after first day and especialy after I lost a scetchbook with about 20-25 scetches on bus. Shame on me. Have a bunch of Greecepics yet to post though. Thanks for the kind words and your visits.
SirGreenSock- GreenSock, .... I have bad news for you. I'm on the fatal track of getting myself a girlfriend soon. Thus there will not be any more time for....for....US.

Sweetass update! Hope ya had a great time in Greece! I wanna go there again soon, havent been in 10 years :O
Really like where youre going with the sketches and studies, especially the first one.
Digging the jazz (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i269/Markthalle/goodoltimes.jpg) work, always have so much energy in em. Went to a jazz club myself the other night, never realized just how difficult it is to capture the life and music with these people. Mad props to you man!
btw, you posted this one (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i269/Markthalle/afterberninni.jpg) and this one (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i269/Markthalle/momunfinished.jpg) twice. :o Theyre both real nice so I'll forgive you this time :P

Welcome back, Blacky and I hope that all went well in Greece, although sorry to hear that you lost all of those sketches. I'd love to hear all about your trip (as I'm sure others would to), so whenever you get the time, let 'er rip.
What a coincidence that you have that hand study, I was just looking through my Hogarth hand study book. You did a good job on that, it really jumps out at ya. I really like the Bernini sketch, too. After Rodin, he is my next favorite sculptor. Walking around Rome, I really got a great chance to view his works up close. He was just incredible. The good ol times jazz guy looks like a young Marlon Brando, a very young Brando, a very thin Brando. That's a good sketch, I like that one.
Great batch of sketches, Blacky. It was worth the wait. You know, maybe you could rework that miner sketch, improve the figure a bit; it's a powerful piece and since you actually have a connection with the story, all the more so.

Blacky, you're going to go very far with this explosive sense of vision.
Keep up your fine studies ... you're rapidly honing the ability to harness your expression while maintaining your image crafting.
It's really a pleasure to observe your growth.
take care,

Thanks for the comments.
Here's a little update. Stuff from Greece.
(I've been real lazy lately)
SirGreenSock-thanks man, you definately schould go to Greece or Europe some time. Lots of ancient sites around n all. Glad you liked the Jazzscetch, why don't you talk Heroic or somebody else you know to go draw Jazz with ja?
We need more of't on CA :)
Serpian- Thanks glad you liked em. Although that watercolour didn't come out right I'd say. I like the one I posted today better.
madplanet- Hey, nice talking back to you again. I'd like to tell more bout Greece, but my parents are on vacation for a week still on and they took our digi-camera with them. I had to pay quite some money to make this little update here. I mean, that I still have pics to post and I'm waiting for the receiving of the Photo-CD that was made bout the trip by some folks to help share my Greece experience.
I'm tottaly a Berninni fan too. In fact, my avatar's a study i did on one of his Busts ("soul of a damned"......lol). Glad you liked the recent update.
I won't try improve the mining scetch though, since It's an inkwash. I'd have to use covering colours like acrylics to paint on top of't. I might do a bigger version sometime. I've been real lazy recently and have still so many things to do. We'll see what will become of all the projects I had been meking plans on. So long...
bk studio- wow, hadn't expected to have such an honed guest come by. I didn't even know you where posting in the SB section. Thanks a lot for the kind words. That's the sort of motivation that gets me the furthest. Will have to lift my lazy ass and do something not to disapoint people I respect. Because unfortunately I respect myself too little to care, at times.

Hello, dear friend. Happy to hear from you and see you new posts. I always like to go though your book, return to older work and see it. I'm just not always able to write, Syndrome of heavy hand, you know, probably suffering from it too :).
I'm glad you have a great time and even if you didn't do much art. it's great, refreshing, very much needed.
I'll tell you honestly, hope you don't mind, not all work from the post before I like. Some of the subway sketches and, for example. girl reading near the table are a bit too monotone to me. The lines and values are all the same, and eyes got bored. Although there is a lot of motion in these lines, but strangely enough this information is recognised by eyes as the same, and I'm losing interest to the image very quickly.
It's not the case with these pieces though:
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i269/Markthalle/studies.jpg I like the calm, quiet manner in which you drew this woman. Motion is nice in other images, but exactly this manner is good for this drawing, I think. Because it makes me feel cozy and relaxed and the woman look like source of piece, maybe consolation. So I like it.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i269/Markthalle/train1.jpg I like this airy sketch, very good proportions.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i269/Markthalle/afterberninni.jpg this drawing looks so dramatic, these black shadows and hawk-like profile do the trick, I think. Very intense character. I know it is probably study from the bust, but he looks alive, and he looks like he is suffering.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i269/Markthalle/Lena.jpg Lena looks very sympathetic and a bit funny, a little exaggerated features, nevertheless it looks realistic and has very nice sensation of happening in front of my eyes.
Love the musician. Although he is less interest than the one who was tapping his foot in the rhythm of music. :).
I like the fisherman and the waiter too, but the manner of drawing is a bit monotone for me, the variety of pencils strokes and values would be better, I think.
The last update is wonderful.
Especially the girls' portraits and especially the second one. The precious face, beautiful and full of thoughts. And self- respect. Lovely. And I like this soft shading a lot combined with fast pencils strokes, this is what I like, varied information for viewer.
The face of a tired tour guide is wonderful, too. Blacky, I love when you catch this fine emotion with your smart eyes. Great, buddy! ::) Very happy when I see this. One of the major attraction in your art, attention to people and subject.
His face is so dried up, so indifferent, it almost painful to look at him.
And I love the last landscape. Light, space had lovely calm mood. A bit sad, but it's probably just now. Wonderful, I like it so much, save it.
See you.

hmm thought i posted already. wierd. anyways, glad you had fun in greece! looks like it. likin' the studies, they're nice and controlled. all the ink washes are cool too. i noticed on your train sketches (with pencil) that everything looks as if it were the same color. like the chair and the clothes of the people are all the same i mean. really like the architectural study and the jazz good ol times is superb! later.

Your color work is getting better and better and is a real joy to look at, they are quick and capture the expression well. I like the top two sketches of the girls, although their faces seem a bit wide; I don't see this as a problem, though, because it adds to the personality of them, I think. The tour guide portrait is great, he kind of looks like someone from the 1600's that has had a bit too much to drink.

Hello, blacky, how are you doing?
I like the second and the third images.
The guy sitting near the fire with a guitar is very beautiful painting, I think. The illusion of a night is great, and the fire sparks, and the noises they make when they jump form the center, and even the quiet song the guy sings. Amazing really how you transfer this through the painting. But I got these thoughts, I hope they are yours. And what it amazing too that your night is not that black, it's brown/ orange/ yellow actually, but nevertheless it's a night, velvet soft night with its sounds and wind and forest smells. So cool. So I like this image very much. it's a top notch of expressionism :).
And I like the white cats, they look cozy and i like the composition and the wise expression of one the the cat.
See you, hope everything is going in a right direction with you.

Replies and some tiny update.
sve- thanks a lot for your visits and kind sencere and helpful lines you're cosistantly are granting to me. Recently I've been having some sort of artistic depression or sth. few of what I do looks as good as I might tacke it to, and I all too often don't care. It' some sort of lazyness whose only good is, that it might eventually make me work a lot some time later to make up for all that I had missed. So, if you're saying that some things you didn't like all too much about recent updates, then you're right bout that for sure, cuz I don't like most of what I've posted recently eather, except for the stuff I had done in Greece because it was a great trip and I had felt comfortable there.
I ought actually say that I although I have been posting some alright stuff recently and hopefully will do samewise tomorrow, there's lots of stuff that would turn out like crap. (Same as most part of last update). Some days ago I did couple of things, so bad, people would never believe they where mine...
I'm glad nevertheless, that you liked so many things I had done in greece (cats and "Sasha at fireplace", are from there too.)
Your words are very encouraging. And don't worry, I might be over the hill already. Have been to lifedrawing on thurstday and a friend told me I'd have achieved a breakthrough on two pics I had done there.
One more word about "Sasha at fireplace"... I like it too, but it lacks depth still. those white dots on the right where ment to be lights of a distant village.... anyways...so long...
pennington-you're always more than welcome. thanks for the crit and for the ecouraging words
madplanet-the faces of the girls turned out wide cuz they are Russian girls ;) thanks for dropping by, our tourguide slept for 19h through or so as soon as he got home. I offered that scetch of him to him as a gift cuz he loved it so much. He was even kidding about getting it mounted over his future tumbstone....
guggenmaneuver- I've gotta thank you joe for having a peek once again. Glad to hear you're liking my updates. Will hopefully update some better stuff tomorrow though, cuz I don't like what I did after Greece trip. (If you see anything good here, it mostlikely was done in Greece) ....later

good movement on the fight scene, and your color pallette is so sophisticated. between you and that dastardly pencil-smelling sirgreensock character from canada i'm really thinking about getting going on some watercolor studies. :yayca: you guys rock it.
anyways, one crit that i have on this one (http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j247/duuuu/vivien.jpg) is that her face seems a little bit skewed / distorted. good rendering of form though... and the dog drawing is really cool.

Hello, Blacky :). Yeah, depressions, it's a payment for being in Greece probably. You know, the feeling of being empty when you just lived your life on full capacity. That;s why many people live their lives small, economically spending their emotions. Well cheer up, buddy. you will see more of the world and you will become a Master in what you do, I'm strongly believe in it :teeth: .
Thank you so much for all the pictures, I was very happy when observing them. So great, these old stones, orange trees and you, people, it's a pure pleasure to look. I was in Florida last summer and wanted to see oranges on trees so much. We got lost driving around, but still I didn't see even one tree. And Florida has an orange on the car's license plate. So thanks for your photo double.
These old steps with grass growing through them are so tasty. I wish you painted them. Cool logo for Greece, don't you think? In philosophical sense too, right?
Your new update is very beautiful, I love everything in it. Especially the first and third, but the portrait is lovely too, the delicate mood of the girl is very nice, quiet and touching. Her not having an eye contact and low intensity colors are the main reason of the quietness, I think. And you are still having a cold weather, buddy, I think. The hair lock on her forehead and carelessly wrapped scarf are very nice touches to character. The only note that you are probably painted from some angle, and everything is slanted a bit.
I love the drawing of the dog, In sub??? How could you draw a moving object that fast . I'm shaking my head. The form is so right, the foreshortening with this look from above is awesome, Wonderful!! I just love it so much.
OK, looked one more time. It would be better, I think if you did its shoulder as prominent, as protruded as you did its little head. It would add to the illusion of looking from above. But anyway, I really love to look at this drawing, the same way as your dog laying on tiles.
The same goes to Movers. They are just great. Never will say anything bad about them, because in my opinion the feeling of movements, tense of their muscles and everyday's life is overwhelming. I love colors and shapes and composition in it. You know when I draw something nice one day which you will like, I would love to trade with you, maybe. Well. I 'm no good. Don't do any trading out of pity with me, I don't like it.
See you, buddy. Thanks for being nice to me.

guggen-fightscene? what fightscene?.....you ment moving/ scene right? It's an asighnement I'll have to redo till Wendsday, cuz teacher said it was too simple and non-original......ghhhmmkph....he's right, but you thinking it to be a fightscene cheered me up a bit. You definately ought give watercolours a chance. I cheated on that last picture though, mixed em with sepia-ink to máke some colours look darker ;). Can't find my delyxe set of watercolours. (and I had 2 35$-brushes in there....holy ****)
That one portrait's sort of messed up I know, at least I could keep it cuz she wouldn't like it eather.lol
Today I arranged to meet up with some girl to portray her in acrylics on canvas. The canvas had been layered in dark blue in beforehand, and when I was al ready to start, I noticed that I had no white along......that sucked. I had to chop a whiteoutpen in half to have at least some white and make some sort of picture. Too bad that the stuff smelled as hell and I'd be having headaches for the rest of the day. Nedless to say the picture turned out like complete bull......
Your comment bout that one photo made me crack up as hell, thanks.
sve-ohmg, so much text....and I rellied on your heavy hand symdrome and posted that tiny update yesterday, so I could tacke it easy today ;)
't was great pleasure to read through it but I'm having headaches from the whiteoutstuff that I used for making a portrait today (realized I had no white acrylics along, so I choped a liquorbased-whiteoutpen in half and tried to paint with it on prepainted dark canvas.....it was horrible) I'll write a propper reply as soon as possible. Hey, hey, Blacky! Great pictures from Greece, I'm glad you posted them. They were inspiring to just look at, I can just imagine what it was like to wander around all those ruins (well, not imagine, I've done, just not in Greece). The one picture of you on the beach is cool in that there is one cloud right in line with where you are sitting, like it was directly above your head. The artist and his cloud.
The portrait of Vivien is nice, although her head is slanted a bit, but I don't see this as a bad thing, it works well I think. It (she) has personality. Good dog sketch, with his ears back he kind of reminds me of that old Memorex commercial (I've just dated myself!). On the life drawings, I know that they are from you, but they seem different in a way. Maybe it's the heavy conte outline. The top two are the best of the bunch, I'd say. Good stuff.

Am back again, have been to London 'twas awesame (4 days). Haven't seen any of the sights cuz I spent all my time eather at museums or at nightclubs :)
Means I didn't even get around drawing anything there :(
sve- I did actually paint some ruins with some gras growing through em, am posting one of these now. Some others have yet to be finished.
I wasn't really happy with how symmetry, volume and proportions turned out on that girls portrait and you're also right on us having cold weather still on....sucks.....even in London its way warmer 8(.
The decision to draw this one dag was quite spontanious and I also am happy with the way it turned out, went over with some eraser ontop to get more linevaryation going on. You're right about flatness of shoulder part though. Thanks for noticing. Was concerned with his head and ears that were moving wildly as the doggy was real scared of driving sub, so I wanted to nail it down.
I'm amazed you liked my movers scene so much, wouldn't mind trading it with you at all, a charcoal childportrait (with squinted eyes) or something would be real nice, cuz I think you do a fabulous job on these. And my art teacher disliked it, cuz he said it was too simple and that most people would have done sth. similar on subject of movers. He wanted me to be original and so I had to redo it (almost finished). But he wouldn't like latest version either and I'll have to give it another try.....sights...
Anyways, trading would be cool.......later...
Asoir- Am pleasantly surprised to have you check by so often thanks a lot (damn, have to reply to your sb once again...me lazy bum...)
Bruce- yeah,...posting those pics was the easy way round not to write all that had been going on there. But I'm still wayting for another CD full of pictures to be arrive, so I could make the story complete (In case I get around doing so). I really enjoyed wandering around all of those ruins. Coolest thing in that respect, was to be able to wander around a well preserved Byzantine Castle-city (once 40 000 citizens) allmost all on my at dusk. It was on top of a steep mountain and was so huge I almost got lost there.
Glad you liked Vivien, you're right though saying I slanted her features a bit. Am stil practicing portraits. (to capture animals seems easier to me :) )
I don't think I've seen the Memorex comercial. (mind explaining?)
I was experimenting on last lifedrawings a bit, havent gone there in quite a while. Nice to hear you liked em. Cheers...

as usual the sweet stuff. Not concept, but fine arts, i guess.Love some of the gestures, the colors, the varius mediums. But some of the drawings don't look right, they look "stretched" in one direction:" especially the ones in post 147, some of them.
Keep on working ;)

The first one has a real nice mood to it, like the selective linework, too!
Dig the blue ink ones, although the gesture and movement gets lost in a couple of them in the hatching, its a common problem with the medium, always been impressed with the way da vinci treated it.
The two portraits have a lot of character to them, the lips alone tell a story!Great work there, maybe just tone down the texture in the back of the second one so it doesnt pull attention to itself as much.
Life drawing still life is my fav in this update, love the vase and the way you treated the surface materials.Cloth feels a bit heavy though, could be the high contrast shadows.

Hello, blacky. Yeah, I like the Movers very, very much and it would be great to trade with you, I'm a bit hesitating because of my drawings, not sure they are tradable, but it's not a problem. And the other thing I kind of feel bad to make you spend some money on shipping. Well, But i will be happy to have you artwork :teeth: and I will send you mine. Need your address.
I loved your crocodiles and spiders and dog too, but you better never trade them with anyone, keep them. They are gems.
Thank you so much for writing in my thread from London. That's very sweet of you, having all these great things to do in my favorite dream city and writing about my ugliest update ever. Too kind. You are great, Blacky, don't lose your sweet heart on your way up. I believe you will be great artist, well, with a little bit of luck. But really believe your art is wonderful and i think it will be loved. Should be loved already.
About new update and update before.
My the the most favorite are two portraits of Katja. The similarity are not perfect, I don't recognise them as one person, but it's a wonderful portraits, both. Can't tell which one is better. In the first one I like her friendly open glance and cozy pose. Looks like open, sincere person, because of the body language, very inviting to conversation. And I like the use of white, makes the lighting sharp and dramatic, feels like an evening, with an artificial light (sorry you had a bad headache afterwards, be careful with these things, probably bad for you).
In the second portrait I like the light irony in her eyes, and the colors, these bluish shadows are really nice. Blue is so deep color, has so many meanings in our subconsciousness, don't you think? I like it and the spots of yellow orange and green, very good energetic spots on moody blue.
Looked at my Movers again :). I have no idea, but don't you yourself like it? don't you feel this push they make, both, and don't you feel the roundish hand movements of the guy petting the dog? I feel it, that's why I like it, this and colors, and speed of the happening.
I like the portrait of the other woman too, but it is a very different mood, she is almost numb, absent. Her mind is in the beginning of wandering, :).
I like the still life very much for the striking colors. Something is lacking though in composition, Maybe deepness, everything is in foreground, maybe cool colors, maybe the placement of items could be more interesting.
I love the first page, lines are wonderful, the composition is not through, a bit empty on the sides for me. and the front view, with almost no side planes. i wish it was a bit 3d, you know. But I like it very much anyway.
From imagination, some of the sketches are so great, the guy with a spear, torrero with the bull, the hanging guy, they are great.
So thank you very much, it was a treat.

Hey there Blacky! Any time you feel like posting some more Greece photos feel free to do so, I find them interesting and I'm able to live vicariously through them! Greece, now London? You are the little world traveller, aren't ya? I thought that the Memorex commercial might have been a bit old for you to have seen, but it was pretty much an ingrained image in just about everything about 20-25 years ago. i'll have to see if I can find a pic of it.
I'm really liking what you are doing with color lately; there's a lot going on with it in some of your latest, such as the first one (I just like the contrast between the background and the ruins), the portrait of Katja ( the background seems to be echoed in the face, and vise versa) and finally in the still life (the hat, umbrella and vase are nicely done amid a nice composition).

The Gnoll- I know what you mean, have a tendency for making heads small and limbs stretched. The upside down gracies on #147 are a stusy from a manierist artist, they did that on purpose. Thanks for your comments.
SirGreenSock- Good critique points. Am blaming my camera though. BG on original dimmed some. Contrasts on second one are lower too. But you're right about heaviness of cloth. Am not too glad about how I managed to do it in generall. I did last 30% of't from Memmory though. Thanks a lot for dropping by.
sve- sve, you're one of those few persons that seem to believe I could make a living from what I'm going to do in future. Thanks a lot for that.
Likeness of Katja was caught well actually only on right (bright) part of her face on second version. She liked it a lot still. The time I got headaches from whiteoutfluid was a different one, the picture that evolved from that looks horrible and I'll have to redo most parts from memmory.
I added the blue to her left face side after showing it to my teacher (he advised me to), simply went with blue inkwash over it.
You capture psychology expressed in pictures very well, that is really impressive.
Concerning composition....you are absolutely right on about first picture of last update, I'm no expert and hope my teacher (who used to be Proffessor for Composition) could teach me some in that respect. Funny enough, he was the one to assemble last lifedrawing. Perhaps it's the high contrast and distortion of colours due to my poor photography scills, that it appears a bit boring.
I send of the movers to you, but I had switched your adress with mine because I didn't know what korner each one belonged to and was being send it back. Send it off already again though, so don't worry :)
So long...
madplanet-I'll try uploading some new pictures, If I won't manage to do so by tomorrow, then it'l tacke some time though.
I really do love to travel. Last year I had been to Itally twice (3 weeks overall) and to the Canarian Isles. This summer I am planning to go to Poland for a week or so (celebrating end of scool and such) and I might go to Moskow by the End of the Year. And next march I'll go to Egypt.....well, we lazy Germans have more holidays you know...and I'm tacking all the chances I get to travel and see the world as long as I am still young. Wish I could make it to Montrealworkshop though.
Thanks for the kind words on last update.

Architecture stuff is looking tight! Colours are fantastic!
Life drawings are damn lively as always! Watch where you're workin in the focus point on them though, seems a bit frantic on some of these, maybe try making a more conscious effort to where the viewer should be looking.

Hello, Andrei. If you are able to show more photos from your trip to Greece I will be very glad to see them, I enjoyed them.
Wonderful update, I'm so glad to see it. You are so open in your art, amazing really. I think it is a most important thing in art, being open, not hiding anything. Well, at least it's the most enjoyable thing.
My favorite is again the movers, and the most of all the colors, composition and this soft, velvet texture, I don't even understand how you did it. It is a great painting, again love it so much. What strikes me the most is how it effects me. I'm entering in this image and I feel like I'm surrounded with all this cloudy colors and textures. Wonderful dreamy surreal atmosphere in it. The train is streaming somewhere and air balloons slowly moving too. And I love this strange feeling, kind of like a dream, or memory. Air in this painting is like warm soft blanket or coat, wraps around me, relaxes me, lullaby me. Wonderful. I like the landscape, not very detailed , but just enough to create the same soft feeling. And I like the pose of the boy, all work for one united impression. sweet memories, being in a pleasant trans.
I like both jazz drawings. the first one the most for the illusion of sounds a motion around the musician.
I like the sketch of Simon, he is listening music so privately :), like he is hiding from everyone. Like a stork hiding his head in his long feathers. Could it be that birds are suffering from reality too? and need some escape into soft, unwanted sounds removing feathers. :). Well, he looks like those birds, and his nose looks like the beak.
Modigliani inspired painting. I see this artist a bit differently. Honestly, I think he never would've used delightful saturated colors. No, his colors were dark and numb. That was a special purpose to create this silence and out of the mind mood. Everything is static in his portraits, as I see it, almost no life whatsoever. The only sign of life is the inner world of the person and the doors are closed actually, not possible to read his/her thoughts.
So despite the dead eyes like in his portraits your mood is very different, I think. It's a energetic portrait of young person, I think.
I like the life drawing/ painting very much, my favorite are last two and the first sketch. although you are a bit careless when drawing faces. it adds to emotion, but steals from truthfulness. Not sure is a bad thing though, but my eye did notice this and it was out of general harmony.
Well, all the best to you.

Keep up those travels when you can! That's great that you have the opportunity to see so many cool places; you and your art will benefit from it. I like the sponteneity of the architectural sketches; they have character and the one of the flying buttress seems like it could come crashing down at any moment. You did a great job at capturing the pose and attitude in the Simon sketch, very nice. The second jazz sketch really pops out, especially after just viewing the first one. You have a nice touch with colors, even the earth tones, they all have that "Blacky" touch.

Asoir- Thanks man. Damn Photobucket thought those lifedrawings to be porn and deleted em though....arghhh.... . Hope you like Moving III too.
guggenmanuever- Yea, I liked that 5min thingy too, as I liked the other inkwash lifedrawings, but bloody Photobucket accuses me of being pornographic or sth. which is rediculous to the utmost. Had a lot of exams coming up anyway so I couldn't attend lifedrawing for a while. I hope to continue with the subject of architecture and move to cityscape as it is getting warmer and I'll be able to go out scetch on holidays as I hope.
SirGreenSock- Thanks for the comment. I know what you're talking about. You're doing that at your lifedrawings. It's a fine approach, but I still need to concentrate on whole figure more than on the "interesting" parts. You often leave out legs on yours for example, although some legs that you draw are obviously too short. I guess I still ought leave some parts less developed that add little to the overall impression or that better be not payed attention to as much as to those parts that are in foreground or focus....so...yeah...I guess you made a good point, which I wouldn't like to accept as your short poses in pencil are so damn good....:)
sve-Thanks for your kind words, I am always astounded on how you can put pictures into lyrics, if I read your comments out loud to a blind guy, I think, he could visualize the picture quite well. It's amazing. Thanks. Concerning Greecepictures.....I'm too lazy, at least throughout this month. Even still have some pictures yet to finishe that I started drawing there. You're absolutely right concirning Modigliany. Was merely fooling around, first one was a SP. Am really mad about the Photobucket acusing me of obscenity issue and that I had to write this edit twice. Later....
madplanet- Hey Bruce, thanks a lot for your C&C. Have to pay more attention to colours still. Am eager to learn more about how colours work. Looks like al my money will be earned to be spent on travels in future, as soon as I'll have saved up enough for an own decent PC (at last, yay! ) that is.

Hello, blacky :). Thank you so much for talking so poetic about my comment to you, hehehe. That's sweet. But I'm not doing it to make a blind person see art. I'm just telling my impression. I really felt this. I'm not word manipulator, poet as it is. I'm honest in my replies, dear friend. Never want to give other person false hopes and play on his feeling. You can be sure. I'm writing what I have in my heart, not even in my mind. it's pure emotions, not anything else. I do try to say it as clearly as I can.
Sorry, about this Photo bucket nonsense. Although their standards make me giggle. So crazy. Which reminds me a conversation of two my girlfriends. One is member of baptist church, relatively fresh believer and the other is an artist with whom we went to a lot of model life drawing sessions. So the believer shocked from the simple fact us liking to draw nudes. So from time to time she tried to push some sense in our heads, asking Olga (she knows it is useless with me) why she doesn't paint landscapes. Olga does paint landscapes and everything else, but she is very independent thinker, so she answers with pride, that because it's fun, and interesting, and human body is beautiful. and I'm falling on floor laughing from all these conversations. Life can be so much fun sometimes.
Update is very strong, thank you so much for it, lightened up my day. Especially the movers. It is precious. And the big resolution really opened my eyes. You know I rarely laugh in a full voice, but i did this time. My, so much fun, this image. Moving, in the most extraordinary way!!! hahhah. love it.
Those young guys, it is great characteristic of them what they pushed on top of each other into this net. Fu-u-unnyyy!!! TV on the table, unkempt bed, tube with shower, cat, dog, stuff. This is crazy! Wonderful, Blacky! I love your teacher for pushing you to this. Love the indefinite landscape behind them, and the hint on cloudy day, maybe morning (they are lucky not to move in rain). The outlines of the whole moving conglomerate could be more definite, it is a bit, tiny bit scattered right now, but really, I like the image so much, it is so funny, so fresh and the story and idea are so sympathetic, I don't want any changes. Hugs for this painting. I saved it for myself.
Love the rain image too, mostly for the street drawing and the effect of water everywhere. For the lighting, for the interesting details about unknown for me city. The girls figures although there is some charm in how you did them, still I know they could be better. Especially the running girl. The body language is very precise, the proportions are not, her head is too big. Not convincing fore shortening, in my opinion. Street is awesome though, like to look at it. Wonderful, hugs for this one too. Saved for the effect of rain.
Like all the people in the portraits, including Mr Steue. Well, he looks like a very melancholic man. Hard to impress probably. Nima is sweet. I would've probably just laughed in front of him, listening to his speech and looking at his clowns shoes. Hugs for Nima. And I like the girls chatting. very vivid picture.
Both doodles are very interesting too.
I don't like your ships much, though, they look heavy done and don't make me feel anything. Except the ones on water, colored, but they still look heavy. How do the wind push them? The real sail boats are light looking, I think. It is obvious looking at them they are able to run on waves. They are designed and constructed this way. I might be too harsh though. Disregard it in this case.
See you
Sveta

you have a pritty louse line there... but man... learn to control it so that you can describe a shape with it! i mean.. i haven't been through all your stuff.. just the last page... All i can say is that you have to describe something in your stuff... (i don't know if you are trieing to do an "art-line" work there... and to say : "hey man.. this is the way i see life" ...) your stuff is chaotic...
in your long hours work, try to think about construction too... not only rendering and color...

Hey man. Moving III is really a cool piece, it reminds me of something that would fit nicely in a children's book. The image really appeals to me, it has that "special quirkiness" to it. I like the Under Rain piece, too. the rain effect was captured just right, although I think that the composition could have been tweaked a bit more, maybe back up the view some to show more of the tunnel or overhang some more. It's still good, as is though. Good stuff Blacky, keep 'em coming.

Thanks for the comment in my sketchpoop, bro.
I like what you have going here, very loose and easy linework, fun to look at and reminds me alot of Egon Schiele's drawings. On the color peices you might want to tighten things up a little though, some work well but others just look a bit messy.
Just keep drawing and posting!

Oh, Blacky, I'm shaking my head in full admiration, so many beautiful paintings and drawings. Just don't know what to say, I love it. So wonderful, not spoiled to any other influences. so alive and vivid. Just great.
Well, some of my favorites
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g242/russisch/sp.jpg Light personality :), you face is glowing from light mood you are in. :) Just awesome, such a sweet, expression, when it is hard to say if you are smiling or just did fast, exploring glance checking lighting and shapes. glance of the artist. But it is sure one of the lightest painting of yours, no cold weather anymore in your portraits. :).
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g242/russisch/lions.jpg Love it, so effortless and graceful, Ahh. no words.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g242/russisch/akt3.jpg Love it double, just wonderful simple way to catch figure and it's motion with very simple bur expressive means. And I'm glad you are pretty strict with proportions. looks great.
Man on the red couch
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g242/russisch/bottle.jpg The metal texture is very charming and the fearful colors too. And i like the simplicity and modesty of this still life. I like this crooked shapes of the vegetables too. The rotate my glance like arabesque in Matisse paintings. :)
The feeding elephant painting, it is so sweet and involving and I relate to it right away somehow, probably because it is honest. Like the modest cool colors too. And gesture of the girl. So warm, wonderful.
All studies of animals, weapons and gestures, oh the figure of funny walking guy on my left is my favorite.
Colored animals, my absolute fav is the polar bear. and the fly. And the goat.
As a note some of the nude drawings look distorted and done in a hurry with disregard to proportions and gravity sometimes , they look slanted.
Man on the red couch, well, would be great to define the form better, some highlights and shadows. the couch has more personality then the guy. I think it is wrong, a bit mithantrop :),give him some personal features :).
Old car painting, I don't know, very chaotic for my taste, forms are badly define, eyes are struggling to define it.
OK, I'm going to Russia in 6 days, be back in one month, so all the best to you. bye.

There you go violating that photobucket policy again! Blacky, your such a pornographer, ha, ha. Now, there's afew others that you have that I'm surprised they didn't omit, but at least you won't have to "offend" them anymore now that you can download directly to CA, so shock away.
In some of your color figure works, the values and tones create some interesting patterns, like there's something else going on on the surface of the skin.
Interesting expression on the tiger's face. I like that. Your second sp is really nice, but I think that your goatee is on a slant. I like that you make the effort to draw and paint those around you. Besides making for a good model, it's also a good reminder and record of who's who in your life.

Aoir- yeah, that bum was bleeding like hell on his forehead, wouldn't notice it though and simply wanted to sleep. When ambulance and police showed up, he was trying to fight for his right to be left alone and be able to rest some more. Although I was thinking like; leave him alone, you're in my way, cuz I'm about to immortalize this man on paper, they took him away never the less :( . I had to continue from memmory.....
sve- Ca/ forums's been getting on my nerves lately. Had writen replies already (30-40min) and when I was about to post it, they asked me for my login...arghhhh. Concerning Photobucket- it's real funny that the ones they decided to be too pornographic (or whatever) were pretty much those, that my teacher decided to include into my Portfolio. (2 month left and still half of it yet to be done....yay). I remember how I've been at a big public summer event in Wichita (the place I had stayed for 10 month at), me and a friend of mine, took off our shirts cuz it was way too hot to do otherwise. I didn't even pay attention to't until we passed a 12year old. He gazed at us in shock, pointed with the finger and went like "Look dad, that's sooooo gross!!!".
We had a good laugh about that. Same whenever I got asked if we Germans run around naked all the time, if we have light already or weather I came by car.
Am glad you liked the new Movers so much. In fact I usually need several attempts till something (to my teachers standarts) satisfying would come out. The movers series is very charakteristi for't. I don't post those that turned out too bad though.
Nice to hear you liked the rain scene too. I alteres it a bit though, might post it soon. Am not sure though if it has been to the better.
You're right on the ships, I actually was concentrating myself on capturing how they were build and what they actually look like. They were passing by and I had little time to pay attention to anything else than the later aspects.
Scools out and I might do more studies of ships some time. Will come up with more outdoors scetches for sure though :) .
Frank Wade-thx man, appreciate it.
Icey- ahh, finaly somebody to make me feel like a lousy artist again. thx. You're right saying that I'm caotic. Sometimes I'm way too loose and also don't give much thought about what and why I'm doing sth. But on the other hand I'm still trying to attain some more skills concerning technique and recognizability of things. I also get told what to paint/ draw anout from my teacher, since I'm preparing my portfolio. I think I used to have an art line at some points back in the day already, and should concentrate on't and on construktion (which has always been a weakpoint of mine) some more in future. So I'm not all too worried. But thanks a lot for that kind of critique, I need it.
mull77- thanks, always a pleasure to have you drop by. Had some technical problems. Update on it's way
Guggenmaneuver- I'll try to upload those images that got removed soon. My reacher decided to implement em into my portfolio. So funny, he picked the ones, that turned out to be too naughty for Photobucket.
That fat kid- well, I'm doing a stillife every once in a while already. Don't have time to spend more than 4h on't though. Will try to tighten up my stuff some more though...thx for dropping by
madplanet- Glad you liked those 2 works so much. They're part of my portfolio . I want to apply for Illustration, so it's good it looks like a childbook's illustration. Changed the rain-picture a bit, in accordance to your critique. Will try to post it soon, am not sure if it's been to the better though. Anyways, so long Bruce.....
document- thx, for c&c. I'm hearing that I've got to tighten up my stuff quite often recently, so I guess you guys leterally force me into it. So I'll be working on't.

DAMN IT; IT'S THE 3RD TIME TODAY, THAT WHENEVER I'M ALMOST FINISHED WITH A POST, IT GETS DELETED!!!!!
sve- "you shake your head in admiration?" .....PHA!, That's Nothing. I've got plans for sooo much more, so many new and shiny things.......but....Damn, I'm hooked on JA2 again (a computer game), watch TV til 3am , go to fork quite often (where again, I play JA2 ) and thus I've got no clue how to actually get all those things done I've got in stack :( . Me lazy bum...
Na, halfway kidding.
Glad to hear you liked that SP. Did it for an artteacher at my scool as a farewellgift. In fact it's sweating hot in Hamburg right now. And it's still getting hotter by the day.
I was astounded on my own behalf, how nice those lions came out like. Had spoiled half a scetchbook trying to realize what lions actually look like, though. Have been to the Zoo once again, this time only for 2 hours. Besides that bear in new update, I started painting a Gazelle or sth. , but then some kiddies came up and started throwing apples at it.......ghhmpf, GREAT. My masterpiece to be was ruined :( .
That lifedrawing that you've pointed out, was done with a penbrush I aquired recently. Also found out that I could fill it with own coloured ink. Did some more works with it, but among others I'm holding em back a bit cuz I'll have to finish em first (my teacher gave me some tipps).
The guy on red couch was a task at the scool I want to attend. They wanted us to paint both, couch (red drappery) and person). (I sneaked into some classes pretending to be a student. :) ) You're right though, It lacks some personallity among other things, like propper volume.
Some of my stilllifes had to be finished from memmory, perhaps that's where those fierce colours in FG came from... glad you liked it.
You're also right about some of my stuff looking slanted....am even too lazy to think up an exquse....
The car-picture's alright though. Took it to a portfolio examination meeting (or sth.) and they thought it to be my best piece so far....I might not agree on that, but the photo quality of't is real bad, perhaps that's why it looks so weird so far. (might replace it by a new photo some time)
Hope you're having a wonderfull time in Russia, and don't you dare keeping your impressions secret. I even finished up (almost) all of my remaining scetches from Greece, to cut you short on excuses. And as I take it, it's your first visit back to home since a real long time.
pennington- Thanks for your c&c. And despite Mr. Fatkid being absolutelly right, and you thus samewise, he's Enemy Nr.1 of my Lazy State of mind ;)
madplanet- Yeah, Marshall, my former hostbrother in the US, who wanted to become a pornstar, would've been proud of me.
It's awesome CA now's hosting my pics, thus I'm reposting those that got lost, but I am having some difficulties with CA now. Weird stuff going on...
Those portraits I've been doing lately were mostly eather farewell gifts to people from scool, or as you mentioned, records of those people for myself. Cuz after scool's out, I'll never see most of em again. Am not all too sad about it so far though.
Asoir- OMG your postcount is incredible, you trying to tacke on that one Carnifex dude from austria? I'll PM him or davi a Looser, whenever you'll manage to pull em of their throne. Anyways, thanks for dropping by, update on its way.

Hey, hey Blacky, nice to see some updates. Although some of these latest figures don't have that Blacky something to them, maybe they are less dynamic or something. But on a better note, they seem more like color studies than anything and that's working well. There's some subtle things going on in that parade/crowd scene water color that is particularly effective. And the still life's are looking good, too (and I'm not much of a fan with the still thang).
Talk to ya later.

mentler- Thanks for dropping by, am trying to cut my line expenses short without loosing credability
madplanet-Hey Bruce, I'm fine. Besides being a notorious Computergame junkie lately (am on rehab), I'm doing some process about my art alongside. Should tacke those thinks more serious though, deadline for portfolio's getting in sight (mid of Oktober). You're right, I've been much more concerned with scintones lately and have been experimenting with different approaches. That quirkiness of mine had to tacke a rest at times, cuz some people acused me of having slanted things.....and they were right. Guess it's different from update to update.
Besides, I was drawing that Getrman fan crowd at the fanzone in Berlin during the match Germany/ Sweden (there was a crowd of about 700 thousand people standing in front of me). Didn't see a thing of the game though, cuz I was standing under the monitor.... unforgettable still
So long...

hey blacky, these recent watercolors you've been churning out look great. You're expressing a lot more with less, reducing some of the 'muddy' look that you seemed to be struggling with. The combination of a few ink lines in the composition of the figure paintings really helps them pop. Strong works!

That fat kid- thanks man. Right now I'm trying to loose those ink lines. Cuz line and wash, are two different techniques that struggle with each other in some of my works. (At least it's real tough to combine em, am glad some of these came out as nice as they did.) Concerning "muddy look"; am still on trying to get rid of't. Right now I am busy with a paintover of a recent piece that turned out way too muddy. I'm glad it's summer, helps me avoiding those dirt like colours.:dur:

Hello, Andrej. Saw you on the photos in Lounge, looks like the drawing session went really well. You look like fraternity or something,
Hope you tell your impressions.
hahah, the story about Photoshop pictures and your teacher. hehe, did you tell him this interesting nuance?
What your parents told you about Russia? I bet they were very careful in their words. That's what Russia creates in all us, Russians. It is awkward to talk about. You know, it's like hitting someone who is already down. I want to say something good, it does have some very good qualities, but the bad ones , they are very prominent, and whenever I start talking positively I will end up talking with a bitter feeling in the best scenario.
So in most cases you don't want to tell anything, just to talk about some happy-go-around country.
One of our friend is working right now living in Moscow. American firm, specialist on finding optimum decision for some businesses, big and small. He has to think positively, that's his job, to help to remove the problem. So we talked about Russia and future of it. He sees something good, but through deeper and bigger poverty of the major part of population. right now Moscow is robbing Siberia treasures. The receptionist of some firm in Moscow has a bigger salary (many times bigger) than some manager or director of plant in Siberia. That's not right. So money are mostly in Moscow, everything goes through Moscow. It's strange economy.
People are, well, it was never a norm to smile to stranger in Russia, but now, It was hard to see their faces. Dead faces, hopeless. These people will not see better life in their time and they know that.
OK, I saw some great paintings in Russia. I was in Tretyakov gallery, the wonderful collection. I bought two great albums there, Serov and Repin, and some more in other city, and great anatomy book. So that's what I took with me from Russia, books mostly, and CDs. And my children books. I had great children books in my childhood. I have to tell that choice of what to read was very rich, books were deficit though. But all the best treasures of World literature were translated on Russian. Some are still not translated or not known here in America. The translators were very talented too.
So in my childhood I loved to look at huge, over sized, very heavy album of illustrations to Gogol novels, really great album, although very old. Seeing it again and taking it finally with me was like meeting old friend. So strange was to sit near my bookcase and hold my books in my hands. Unreal. It was strange to see the window in my room and hear the same sounds of street behind it, the sounds of bicycle, car passing by, neighbors. And to see almost the same colors and lights as I remember them. Hometown changed considerably. All Russia changed, it became louder and more vulgar. Style is kind of lost. I personally think to live in Russia you need to lose some normal features. You need to grow some new ones like a selective vision, for your own sanity.
OK, back to art.
What I like in your painting of the street scenes is illusion of the life, people talking and moving somewhere, Your pictures are almost a documentary. The colors are especially natural and truthful. I'm so glad to see you don't go for the popular over saturated ones. I wonder how long will you be ably to stay like this.
So thesis one I like for this qualities:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=6938&stc=1&d=1153336067
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=6937&stc=1&d=1153336061
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=6924&stc=1&d=1153335927
What I find a bit disturbing for the better word is that you don't care much about truthfulness of perspective and relationship of objects, meaning how they are comparing to each other in size and in space. You are very eager to depict current moment in its motion, that you don't care much about forms. Or maybe you are in a hurry to catch everything at once. But the fact is there are very many untidy drawn things in your work, And I know that your eyes are truthful and good in catching proportions and negative / positive space in any object, so it is kind of sad for me that you are not inclined to go for the biggest, most accurate depiction of the object in front of you. I wish you saw beauty not only in catching the mood, but in the forms too. It is not a random that Picasso is your inspiration, he was a hooligan with what he did with forms.
Mood is still very contagious and great in your work. But I wish I could tell you, don't be one sided, go for the maximum effect in seducing your viewer.
My favorites
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4570&stc=1&d=1152297869 I like the slight fog in the picture, lovely atmosphere
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4575&stc=1&d=1152297903 truthful, very lifelike colors and overall very pleasant composition.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4578&stc=1&d=1152297922 I like that you caught the effect faces behind the glasses and I like the idea, story in this picture. It is strange, because it never came to my mind, that toys are looking at us when you looking at them.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4581&stc=1&d=1152297962 Just like it. mostly for colors and some charm in the picture,
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4582&stc=1&d=1152297972 textures of glass and bottle are great. I love the cool tones a lot.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=6908&stc=1&d=1153330959 hehe, it does have feeling of the flight.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=6925&stc=1&d=1153335934 You are good in catching play of light and time of the day very truthfully, I never can do anything like this, so cool.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=9187&stc=1&d=1154368823 My favorite, for the mood. It;s great, very lyrical, and kind and nostalgic, mostly for this awkward, broken pose of the toy., its strangely placed legs and arms. they look so similar to humans and weird in the same time, because human will never sit in the pose like this.
I like the Jazz men, all of them really great feeling of it is happening in front of me, although you are still very rough with forms and proportions.
O like truthful textures in the last one.
OK, see you. bye.

sve- Hey sve, the trip to Brussels was insane. Definatelly will try to get myselv a place next year. On first day I had been up for 24 hours, witch were wiselly spent on meeting new people and ART! We'd stay up till 6am, scetching, n scetching, n scetching. Awesome, huge motivation to be surrounded by people who draw (them drawing mostly creatures, monsters and cartoonish thingies wouldn't bother me too much, except that I got tempted to steer in similar direktion at times too). Peops were insanely friendly and easygoing. Food was delicious and ..., well everything was perfect. Way better then I'd have expected. The way scetchling, floris, koshime and hurricane handled Photoshop on their Intuos touchskreen -notebook combination. Opened my eyes concerning the infinate range of options one receives with that tool. Wathing em work was stunning.
My parents were not at all one sided when telling me sth about Russia, and I feel quite well informed about what's going on there. I just have that romantic view on people and countryside of east european people. Sort off like Gogol had.
Thx for the additional info from your own experience on that matter, really interesting.
Am envious to hear, you visited the Tretjakov Galery. Wich I could too. (Well, some day....) . Asked my artteacher on his oppinion about Repin some time. He said that he was no doubt incredibly gifted, but in his oppinion he got to much entangled into his realism. It wouldn't matter that much what you draw as how you draw it. He said that the direktion Repin was steering at with how he drew, was the forerunner of what would become stalinistic-classic. I can't second that to a full 100% as I'm too much in awe before Repin and Sirov's paintings. Glad to hear you got yourself all those wonderfull things on the trip. Luckily my family was able to get all the old childbooks, novels, magazines (a whole library) back from the Ukraine by car. (had to bribe a lot of people though, ridiculous).
Don't be afraid I could go for the oversaturated tones too much, those tendencies were merely provoked by the blistring sun we've had over here during the summer , and what's wrong with being a form hooligan? :p . (I've got a picture in the making thats gonna shock you, and one to calm you down again he, he (tease, tease...)) But you're absolutely right with that crit. I've been quite lackadaisical concerning proportions, form and stuff lately. Colours and mood have caught me in their fangs. But I'm simply trying out different things, so it's hopefully only a phase. Thx for pointing out though, wasn't too much aware of it. Glad to hear you're liking my stuff so much and thanks a ton for the real good crits again. Can't have enough people to tell you where and why you lack sth. still on.
bumskee-wow, those words hone me....really.... thx man....

M:chel_ - thx, for the enthusiastic praise man. Glad to hear, but the above statement should be the opposite, first learn the basics (which takes tons of time), then you may draw faster. Sth. I ought stick to samewell, cuz my anatomy's lacking a ton of things.
sve- he wouldn't pick too much work out. One of em I won't even post cuz proportions are horrible on't, but he liked the topic composition n all. (might be usefull to make a complete drawing about some time). He picked the scetch i did of Floris on bluish paper for example. Some others I tried to make a picture of, but camera fucked up, and my scanner's broke (and I won't see him till Monday). So it'll tacke some time. handed Mark, his son the "Best of CA" images. hey, hey Blacky. Whoa, what an output. Your pencil and charcoal drawings are alive with character and detail, but some of the color pieces seemed a little flat to me. But the effort and enthusiasm is all there. By a little flat, maybe it's just the color combinations aren't to my liking.
your trip to Belgium sounded like a great time and it's cool to see what became of some of that in the form of your sketches. I like seeing the different impressions of the other CAers there. Hope everyone had fun there, it seems like it.

Tons of improvement and great work blacky! Really like where you've been going, your watercolours have gotten real strong, cant wait to see more!
Only crit i have is that in some of the jazz sketches the background is sketched in so loosely and roughly that the musician himself can get lost in it, losing focus and distracting the eyes. Maybe try using contrasting areas of flat tone rather than hatched tone to work with the composition and areas of interest more?

Ryan DeMita- appreciate your comment, thx ryan
Bruce- Hey thx. You're right some of my colourworks are flat. they have areas with almost identical values. when I scan em and switch to B&W, they're flat as a pancace.
SirGreenSock -thx, sir. Although I'm not sure what flat tone means (vocabularywise) I believe I got what you're talking about. It's a really good point. Thanks.
Serpian- oh ....yeah, I like the scetch I did of scetchling too, unfortunately I had to chop half of the original off, cuzz the bottom part sucked. Thanks for droping by.
It took me quite a while to get most of the mud out of this (first) painting. As a resultI fucked up bottom water-part (I'ts too aktive now), since I redid it from scratch.

That’s some great progress you’ve made with your life drawings, Blacky.
A common characteristic of your work that I see is choppiness. All of the marks and colors seem. . . hesitant, I guess. You seem to be shedding this, but I suggest that when you make marks, do so boldly. If it’s wrong, it’s wrong, but at least it’s unafraid to be wrong. ;-) Anyway, the least hesitant of your pieces so far is the still-life of the palette and pipes and skull. Take what you’ve learned from that one and run with it!

Aaaahh, you've emerged from the color flatness with the marina scene. Some of those whites really jump out atcha and the water in the foreground has that nice optical illusion of movement. Nicely done.
Like Seedling said 'don't be afraid to be wrong' and I really feel this way about your work because even with some of its flaws you take it on.

hey blacky, I still happen to enjoy those few ink lines, you put them in with a ot of precision. I don't think the wash and linework contrast or compete too much at all, especially with the restraint you have with the ink. I do think it'd be good to slow down just a bit every now and again to allow the paper to dry a bit more (That's just speculation on my part, as I don't know if that's causing the 'mud'). Either way, slowing down will help you with making delibrate decisions to further your examination of the subject.
Despite that, you do the best job of capturing a moment that I've seen recently, keep it up man!

sve- "mental patient diary" sounds great. I like Repin a lot actually. But I think my teacher's also kindof right saying, he kould have been more inovative about how he'd be drawing. Ingres and David where wonderfull artists samewell, but Delacroix pushed art a bit further then them.
yeah, the face of the girl's kinda okward. Couldn't do better though. The flirtation actually was there. Perhaps not during the pose, but that model definately loved flirtation. (The models sticked around for 2 days, you'd notice their character). Form fell for her charme, or she for his, by the way. Glad you like it. It's been tacken into my portfolio. Have 15 images so far. Might post final portfolio somewhere, somewhen. You're right about the recent livedrawings, the're weaker and lines are too heavy, to be depicting human flesh. Was trying new aproach/ was also giving paints a break cuz 10 min aint is enough. Did old mistakes though. Perhaps I ought practice my pencil skills some more nevertheless.
In real live the dog image is valuevise not quite as contrast full as posted here. there's a greater variation of value, both in light and dark area. Everybody seems to like it, but I'm it's biggest fan nevertheless cuz I'm glad my experiment turned out fine.lol. I prepainted bright area dark and dark area orange, showing quite a lot of it through, specially on dog. It's actually thought as a series. like a 3-picture-comicstrip. Hope I'll have time to finish this up. the stilllive was the last one I'd do at the sessions I had over, at my teachers place. (Now we're doing 1h speedies (0.5h for brainstorming on a certain topic)) Surprisingly it took me only 3 h to finish it, so I'm quite pleased. although you're absolutely right again. Perspective is slanted. I'm not to good at it anyways. Will have to work on't some time. So long....
Seedling- thanks for stoping by man, but unfortunatelly I can't agree with your crit to a hundred %. On some of my works it's true that I've been hesitant. On the recent girlsportrait for example. But that's cuz I had to come up with that portrait from imagination and I couldn't quite recall what the girl actually looked like. When I did these jazz musicains (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12027&stc=1&d=1155754614) , I didn't pay attention to clearness too much because it was a watercolourpencil and I was merely making a prescetch for a inkwash, but decided otherwise later on. The stillife with scull and pipes you're reffering to was actually one that I would call hesitant as I had spend a lot of time on the fixing of muddy colours that used to be all over the place.
I don't think chopiness is a sign for hesitation. madplanet- is that a late revanche for this one time I told you, you ought watch your line economy? he, he just kidding :). As already replied to seedling, I don't really agree on that crit. Thanks a lot for dropping by and having a look anyway.
That fat kid- You're absolutely right, I oughta slow down sometimes. Unfortunatelly I have a bad habit of rushing things, also due to deadlines of my teacher. I also will cease to do any more stilllifes, and do 1h speedpaints instead. But don't worry I'll be reserving 1/2 h for the thinkingprogress each. The speed doesn't affect the mudd. In fact it's faster to come up with clean colours. Simply tackes practice. I'm getting there though I'd say. Thanks a lot for c&c.

I love the immediacy of your work, but I agree with fatty that some more concentrated or at least precise studies would help. Hmm...same goes for me though :P

Don't worry about it, Blacky. You aren't obligated to agree with the critiques you get. Critiques are like fishing with a net: you throw it out there, net a bunch of random stuff, and then keep what you want and throw the rest back in. Or something. (Hmm, catch and release critiques?)

glad to see the improvement is still strong in this thread.Excellent studies, life drawings. The old animal studies were great.Great sense of "life "and light in your paintings and sketches, rought but soooo damn effective. That last dog painting is really very nice, excellent contrast in the whole picture.
Got no crits, just keep it up ;)

Hello, Andrej. And to your mom ;). :overhere: , here, international language. :). :hatsoff: and virtial die Blume from me to her, der Flieder to be exact , one of my favorite.
So, Repin is great and just yesterday I looked at his illustrations to Gogol novel, " Mental patient diary", in my album from Russia, it is precious drawings.
Back to art.
My absolute favorite is this graceful, lovely girl model in bower hat and with a cane. Very graceful and has light flirting mood, and I somehow think you added it yourself, which is great from my opinion.
Her face a little bit slanted just a bit, it is tolerable, but you could be a little bit accurate though. Stricter you know, because this distortion doesn't add to emotion I think but on the contrary it distract form it and honestly it kills the perfect harmony of this image in my opinion. The rest is wonderful though. Light elegant silhouette, transparent colors and the whole gesture, has a sweet personality in it. Flirting and jazzy too a bit.
So I think everything is pretty much in harmony in this one.
But when I look at the drawing reclining nude I think differently. it might be too strict approach, but the lines and mood are in contradiction in this one for me:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=15024&stc=1&d= Pose is relaxed and melancholic, lines are swift and awaking and too thick. Draw you this pose with light gentle stokes it would be more harmonic for me, talking thought your lines too you know.
Shoulders are too far sticking out on my right in this pose. Should be smoother transition from shoulder massive to overlapping because of the foreshortening arm.
Dog is wonderful, maybe the shadow is too deep, but I don't care it is great lighting in this picture and I especially like some roughness you manage to depict in the textures, it is noticeable and add so much to the interest of the image, IMHO.
The still life is very beautiful too, but again, in my opinion you did do all you can, being strict with forms, so the back of the chair in perspective looks wrong to me. Too slanted again. The colors, imitation of polished wood and the rest textures are very truthful and easily recognisable with eyes.
There is some distortion in the faces of the rest of the nudes too.

Your work is wonderfully expressive but I think you'd need more basic objective drawing to really flesh out the expression. Great improvement but I'd still have to say your first drawing in the thread is my favorite (just my taste).

Now I write back:)
Great new stuff, if you go on with these life drawings you`ll reach perfection very fast I think. The colors work very well together and the lightning is very good, just the rendering needs a bit more work, try to make it a bit more "smooth"(I hope you know what I mean...)
This dog on the street scares me, that`s a good thing. Reminds me of some expressionistic paintings....
Keep it up!

I also am enjoying the freedom I have bevore enrolling at Artscool, oh and I'm too lazy to accuire some more basik skills too :P
GunTrouver- Thx for dropping by. I have a big isssue with consistancy so I don't know If I'd be able to keep up quality of livedrawings in near future. Stopped doing em in colour too for a while. Poses are way too short. More dogs are yet too come.

Hey man, how's everthing been going? Busy as usual, I see. When i first looked at the one of the dog in the ally, I didn't really know what to think of it or if I even liked it. I thought that maybe the contrast between what was in shadow and what was in light was too much. But the more that I look at it the more that I like it. I feel that the reds in the shadow areas are kickass and really add to the piece. It's very moody and gritty and i like that the darks have more details that the day lit street.

Whats up, Blacky? Youve got a huge, huge collection of images. I wish I could be as prolific as you. I admire your thirst for experimentation. Almost every image is fresh. Your line quality is also of note. Very expressive. Nothing I could crit really, except the finer points of anatomy in some, where there is no ref used. But I shouldn't be talking, since my anatomy sucks :P
Hope to see more.

Hello, Andrej. I love your book. And I hope you will not lose or change your colors, I love exactly these shades and effect they produce, energetic and comforting in the same time. Or you can change them, but I hope you will keep something of them too, maybe on new exciting level.
Sometimes I think while looking at an aggressive use of colors by many artists on this site, that it is not natural. and we supposed follow nature in our art, it is our biggest teacher, the combinations, shade, forms, everything's so finely adjusted in nature, it has the best taste.
Sometimes I think using strong effects kills sensitivity in an artist and his viewer. Kind of dumbs all feelings. That's why I care about your colors. they are close to nature.
Cool update as always.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=21240&stc=1&d=1157799144 This is wonderful sketch. the pose and the face expression, my , it is so true. I will tell you one of my biggest compliments ever. I saw this expression of musician being deep into his musics just once before, and it was Repin "Portrait of the Composer Anton Rubinstein."
http://www.abcgallery.com/R/repin/repin52.JPG
It has the same feeling of the person being closed to the other world, kind of distanced, covering with his eye lids, hiding from all the outside disturbance. You have the same in your sketch, a musician being free from the world around him. He looks happy and limited in the same time, so concentrated on one thing. I read that musicians in general are very limited people, just because this passion to music makes them so obsessed, they just don't have time or ability to know or like anything else. It is probably true for really devoted ones. Music is major isolator from life, escape from reality, more than art I think.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=21239&stc=1&d=1157799138 I like his gesture very much, heheh, not the most comforting pose, probably, all muscles are so tense, but it looks attractive. Very believable too. Funny to recognise this scene, I saw it so many times.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=21243&stc=1&d=1157799161 hehehe , this portrait is so crazy, makes me laugh looking at it.
Camels, lion and parrots are so beautiful, love them all dearly, remind me my old children books illustrations, I am getting pretty sure we saw the same books, it is 50th style. It was done with great deal of love to children.
A parrot is especially beautiful, it is just pure pleasure painting to look. Such a great talking though colors and textures.
Guy who lived in double bass's case is very curious drawing, I wonder what he got there, I wish the image was bigger. I might try to draw something like this too. Charming theme.
Love the hot dog seller too very much, heheh, hilarious really, his pose I mean. King of the hot dogs :).
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=21237&stc=1&d=1157799122 I like this one very much, I wish you show more fluent of the lines in her back, it looks so natural, that flow of her back, this twist, I think it could be increased even more. it will stylisation, but very beautiful in it, I think.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12033&stc=1&d=1155754675 I didn't say this before, but this one is beautiful. like the composition , simplicity and colors very much., Good volume and textures too.

sith- wow, that's very encouraging to hear, thanks man :)
GunTrouver- Yeah, I messed up sky. But it's watercolours and it's in my teachers claws, so there's no way to alter that. Glad you liked it and thanks for dropping by again.
sve- Well sometimes I'm simply too lazy to mix colours. If I see a green tone, it sometimes looks easier to me to just smak down yellow and blue next to each other instead of actually mixing em bevorehand. It gives the picture a nice visual effect too. But you're right, it aint is good for a better colourunderstanding and dullens the senses after a while. I'd like to do a minimalistik kind of colouruse on a bigger painting sometime, but I'm lacking time and motive right now. I think some people on the forum use agressive colours to immitate vividness, force and impact. But it's like with music. You don't make a song sound better by turning up the volume.
Thanks for the real huge compliment I'm honed and flatered. Although I like to think I'd appreciate crits more :p . That musician I made specifically for my portfolio. Needed a person to face to the right, as I'll lay 3 bluish-jazz-pictures on one sheet. I'm not sure about the artists being limited sort of thing. You're right on one hand but on the other I'd say that an artist, no matter if musician or painter, needs to know the world, or else his art would be a monologue instead of a dialog. Art is communication I'd say.
I've playing with the idea of doing a subway-week or subway month someday. Where I'd leave the house specifically to scetch some people all day long. Hope I'll have the guts to do it, whenever time permitted it.
That portrait was just a way of getting rid of some splashes of guaches that where left over from sth. not artrelated. It where only like 3 colours, but I had never tried Guache before, so...
Glad you liked the animals. I was send by my teacher to the zoo to do em. It's funny cuz he'd show me old Russian Children book's illustrations as prime examples of what I should pay attention to. Perhaps hence the similarity.
Thanks for your kind words on the rest of my stuff. Will be quite busy to come up with new ones, but aint am sure about next update, since I'm not gona be in reach of a decent enough pc for about 3 weeks, partially due to vacations (yay ). So long...

Critiques. Hmmm. It will be no crits for the dog and crystal vase with flower, because I like them very much. But figure drawings, well, here I can find something. On all drawings the model looks too short legged. Or her head is too big and it is a bit too big, but mostly I think you did her legs too short, which btw a rare thing in your life drawings. You tend to make their figures a bit too wavy and sometimes slanting to one side, but I don't remember the proportions being wrong. The strange thing the legs are too short in my eyes in all drawings. Maybe you were truthful and the model was built like this. But I doubt it.
You still doing tiny distortion of the faces and figures, not being accurate with form. It is especially noticeable in this one
http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=23569&stc=1&d=1158339416, her head, a cylinder is slightly slanted to my right, looking a bit like reflection on the moving water. Knowing that she sat unmoved for at least 15-12 min, it is kind of careless from your side, don't you think? Why to be in a hurry with your lines and shapes when it is almost still life in front of you in very static pose.
I'm telling this but I remember my life drawing sessions, I did the same thing, was always in a hurry. So ... Don't take it too close to your heart.
Symbol of vanity is looking finished, the idea is swell, but do you think people will look at your image for long? there are not too much information for eyes there. Are you sure you though out everything? It is too simplified, I think, and static, and monotone, although that is the whole idea.
I like the dog very, very much. The colors are so beautiful and full of life and energy. The textures, fearless brushstrokes and swirl created by those two dogs are wonderful, very exciting too look. I love this deep blue and explosions of other colors. A lot of energy from all this in the picture. I love it.
I like the abstract painting with flowers too very much. I think it is very beautiful in colors and many shapes and more of it there is a hidden motion from the bottom to the top with this beautiful curves.
Thank you for posting the first image in bigger size. He is real bum, on the other hand he is very homey person. His bass case is cozy and will be great home in sunny warm day.
OK. Hope you are doing great. I need to draw something and update to give you opportunity to strike back with crits.

sve-well, yeah the modell did not have the most awesome legs one can imagine lenghtwise, but you're still right. I messed up leg proportions on her. Sometimes on recent update too ( or I wouldn't post pictures where issue would be too obvious) I caught her face quite well thought, I'd say. Anatomy might not be perfect, but the picture youre pointing out is quite close to what she loocked like. But its hard to catch the face, specialy when everybody around you is simply putting an eggshape in there.
You're right about the hammer and griper pic to become boring real quick, but it's really merely the idea I wanted to bring across. Was getting tired of the pic too. Must've been my sixt or seventh' version of it.
Glad you liked the dogs, am quite happy with it too. Having had a dog on my own for 13 years might have been a help on that one. I'd fail if I tried something somimlar with people instead of dogs I guess.
The vase pic started out as a quick warmup exercise and evolved into a huge task, that took up lots of energy and time. Not all to happy with it, My teacher was confused that it was neather really abstrackt nor figuratife as it has elements of both in it. I wish I could have done it more dynamic too. Flowers still lack some detail. Besides, its actually a prtrait of flowers that are captured in a vase and want to break out. See the face?
That fat kid -hey, thanks man. Really apreciate yopur kind words. Well, the first dogpic had harshcolours already although it was of a calm mood, so second had to be reall agressive.

Hey Blacky,
lots of goodness to behold. You've been busy, I see. That second ally/dog scene is fantastic. I love the cool colors with the warm ones peaking through, it adds to the tension. Very effective. I find your coastal/seafaring scenes very appealing. They have different feels to them, but all tell their own stories. The one with the lighthouse shining over the man's shoulder is a great idea and as soon as I saw it, it was one of those "I wish that I had come up with that idea" moments.

Asoir-yep, lines are what I'm I've gotta practice more since I was getting too confident(sloppy) with colour I guess.Thx for dropping by
madplanet- Hey, man. Thx for the kind words. For my standarts I've been busy indeed had a prtfolio to prepare n such. Now I'm on vacation again. Have those up and downs in Motivation.
Glad you liked the dogs and seaside scetches. The later ones where all done from life. I had scetched out enviro of sunrise one in advance though or else it would have been impossible to capture sth. in given time. When I started out the Lighthouse one, I was actually standing inside that cave and remembered how my teacher told me to always be thinking up sth. to add or how to change the image you are beholding. Glad you liked what came out of that lesson.
The Gnoll- Thanks man. Very encouraging words. I was doing most of these as a preparation for my Illustration-portfolio hence the Illustrative approach. WHich I feel quite comfortable with. You're right, my lines are very slopy/wavy and anything else but precise need to work on that. Will restrain from colour more in near future. Need some more basics again.
