Folks,

I've just posted an introdutory painting, but as I accused myself of cheating by using Painter's Liquid Metal plugin layer, I'm posting a new one, made with just two brushes and a cool paper texture in Painter 7.

http://web.newsguy.com/carpen/images/gigeresque.jpg

No cheating in this one, and no reference except for the inner turbulences of a twisted mind :) . And there's always my mind trying to forget Giger's disquieting nightmares - Giger who was probably trying to forget Lovecraft's disquieting nightmares - Lovecraft who...

Peace,

Paulo

I see a lot of things that should not be named...

This piece is a lot stronger than your 'nightmare thing' post. Your skill level and talent is a lot more evident here since you're relying on more 'traditional' means to render the image.

I guess it's just a personal thing, but the 'liquid metal' stuff wasn't doing anything for me--sort of like lens flares in Photoshop.

This image would make for some great wallpaper if by great one means 'mind numbingly horrifying'.

Good stuff.

this image makes great use of using lots of ambigiuouly terrifying shapes, all of them evoke a sense of fear, its realy well done, it hard to make art like this and escape the shaddow of geiger. geiger is geinus in the way he juxtposes his symbols, his aliens wich i belive to be one of his most sucesfull designs are a sureal hybrid of the human skeleton and an early stage of embroitic life forms. by combining two images that both have heavy emotional currency, he fuses the basic symbols of life and death together to create something really horriable, dont forget what geiger did, learn it and then take it further.

Very nice work! The half-images and colours work extremely well together. I bought a Taschen book (a series on major artists) on Giger last summer, and have to say, they guy has an admirable (and messed up) life. He has two stories of supernatural events, one including this weird devil's head thing, that are just out there. And the Black Room? Sure wish there was something like that around where I am.

Nice comments, guys.

Will try to post from the Brighter Side of the Moon next time. I don't do nightmarish stuff all the time, believe me.

Peace,

Paulo
