Topic: Steampunk Anti-Airship Pirate Harpoon.
Description: During the age of steam punk; Airships and blimps were used to travel the skies. Many Airships were used as trade vessels. Pirates developed Anti-Airship harpoon that would allow pirates to anchor an airship and either climb up and/or pull the ship to ground level.
These Anti-Airship were ground based and extremely effective against airships. All though they cause massive destruction, the A-Aship guns can easily be built on top of an urban rooftop, and are usually camouflaged effectively.

Deadline: Nov 19th Midnight'ish

So its a combination of steam and mechanical engines with a gothic design in an early "Metropolis" futuristic age. Interesting....

How can this thing be some sort of harpoon that allows pirates to board/pull down a ship, which is seems like an idea for a non-lethal weapon, yet it causes massive destruction?

I would imagine it simply does a lot of damage on its way in, and anchors on the airship once it's stopped, say by the internal structure or maybe it goes straight through the ship and anchors on the side opposite it's entry. In any case, the Airship is left mostly intact, and the pirates can then pull it down/climb in.

That's the way I understood. The Airship will obviously need to be able to handle a heafty impact without being blown apart.. something I'll be taking in mind as I design. :)

I have come up with a more different approach then llothcat. Its an airburst-gun in which air is compressed using a steam-engine. My next post will be the final version or a colored update.

think waterworld and mad max meets disney's Atlantis and baldur's gate.
or, if anyone here's played Arcanum: Of Steamworks and magick Obscura, think same technology but a bit further into the future.

Awesome topic, im scratching out something in traditional (gasp!). ill have some scans soon.

Deviously hidden behind a fast-food billboard, the Buzzards, a Pirate gang, lined up their trusty harpoon gun to bring down the 8:55 from Chicago - the airship was right on schedule.

My idea.

it's all made out from copper. the oven is directly behind the harpune so that no energy gets lost. only two people can aim the harpune that is shaped like a whale harpune for ripping the fragile skin of the zeppelines that are used to transport cargo in every form and weight. The swag ship is shot down. the pirates fly to the site of the crash. Mostly pirate bases are spread over a certain area so that the ways are shorter. One small scout is flying searching for swag ship, Base A (e.g.) shots the zeppelin down, pirates from Base B depredate the swag ship.

(sorry for my bad English.)
