It was a quiet afternoon sat in front of my computer at work, nobody else in the office and I really liked the show. Did these just for fun but the second one is still a long long long long way off completion. Anyways, thats enough waffle from me:

forgive me if i go to far.. but do i see you painting over photos of the actors? it doesnt seem you yourself have painted his hair, and the slightly transparent ear would suggest this. this is missleading, for the most part, as youre using the values from the photograph to make your own painting more accurate and true the subject. sorry again, i mean no offense.

Judging by the proportions of the preliminary sketches and the color portraits, I second you, 'stoph, that these are very likely paint-overs. One of the hallmarks of paint-overs are the *perfect* proportions with the shoddy color/shading.

Hopefully Mantroon will have a response :/

yeah i do have a response.

Well, first up yeah i traced from a photo, hence the perfect proportion and shoddy shading. But no i didn't paint over the photograph. YES i did trace the highlight of the hair. I sampled some colours from the photos to get the right tones, others i picked up from the palette.

Basically i was feeling lazy so i traced. These images are only intended as a bit of personal fun for myself, and i didn't aim to mislead anyone that i could draw those that perfect straight off the bat, maybe i should have made that point in my first post, oh well.

Well hope that clears it up for you guys.

peace.

P.s. If those images do get people strung out, let me know and i'll happily remove them.

I saw this over at fireflyfans.net ... out of politeness I havent said anything but you should really state your sources. Its in the rules.. and its just good practice. No reason to not finish it. Your composition is decent. Your colors just need work. By the way... Mal's (Nathan Fillion's) eyes are grey-blue, not brown.

yeah dude, you might be better off not tracing em, i think youl learn a whole lot more :) currently your dangerously close to blatant copying. Which is fair enough and all, but seriousely use them pics as a reference, but eyeball the proportions, they will be a little worse but itl help you loads in the long run.

Forgive me but I too agree with stoph, its looks like you used the magnet tracer in adobe and outlined them, then painter over it. Sorry Dude I just call them how I see them.

Your comments are fair enough. Like i said, t'was all a bit of fun while i was at work. I''m new to digital painting so i was easing myself in slowly.

Mr Sribbles... never heard of the magnet trace before, mind telling me more about it?
