actually im kinda disappointed with this post, Mr. Briones.. No Lloyd balls??? not even mark english triangles.. what the fuck man, you gotta represent for Val Open-A.. I didnt see enough Barbara Knees, but you had decent Heartbeat Lines.. Good Sanchez squares too.. bust out some Crayola Watercolors, and I'll be giving this 5 stars for sure.. You'll be the next Salaryman, but without the salary..

my favorite parts of your drawings, as always, are the swear words next to the heads..

Thanks for the reply. was wondering about any other artists with a loose style like sienkiewicz, ashley wood. Loop, will work on the lloyd balls as soon as possible. sorry about the barbara knees. Got to give my props to VAL open-A. The heartbeat lines when necessary. but the sanchez boxes are definitely a staple.

i think there are a lot of artists with a loose style, but not many who use it in finished works. i find myself looking more at peoples loose sketches than their slick finished pieces. the cool thing about sienkiewicz is he does keep it loose and rough right till the end.

i would say hardcorepixxx has kept it pretty rough though.

Whoa. Is Bill Sienkiewicz on Concept Art now! I bet you own every cover and comic that sienkiewicz ever did. It's all projected though.

Some Ken Dallison links. I don't know if he projects.

Spot illos. Just scroll down. (http://www.bugsweeps.com/info/esquire_5-66.html)

Dallison is in there somwhere along some other cool album covers. (http://www.belafontetracks.ca/caricatures.htm)

Hey. no making fun of the cookie. - A word from the proud sponser

Can't belive I am here before the Mexican zhao.

Here are a few things I see,

-on Bob, the forearm shapes seems to be kind of strange. Mostly the form of Brachioradialis and Extensor carpi radialis.(Wow... Malone brainwashed me) Basically ,the high point(the point where it turned direction) needs to be located properly, especially on the lateral side of the arm. Main part of it is just to know where the bones are located. The Ulna is always showing, going from the elbow to the pinky side of the wrist. After that is established, it should be easy to figure out the rest. However the arm holding the axe is looking very sweet.

-the red wing is not working on the winged lady. The drawing looks nice without it.

-About the photogaphy, your camera probably have the wrong settting for white balance.(Assuming you are using digital camera) It is set to to outdoor and turning everything warm in the picture.(to balance the reflection of the sky outdoor. See the logic?) There are two way to fix it. One is to set the white balance to the proper situation(In this case "in door"). Since you are using white paper, you could also just fix it in Photoshop.(This trick won't work with Newsprint). Open the image in Photoshop. Go to Image>Adjustment>Levels. Click on the little "White" eyedropper, then click on any part of the raw paper on the image. The image should align it self much closer to the proper color now. It doesn't always work and it is not perfect. But it is useful sometimes.

Just my two cents. I can really see your drawings coming together, especially in the past two semesters. However, for a perfect drawing, you should still use a projector instead.... :dur:

Not sure if the image is sufficient to show what I am saying... but here it comes.

i can't do the smoothness thing, along with finished work. don't know how to overcome it. i get to frustrated at times. then i watch some porn. really enjoy drawing from a live model. every time i use photo reference i just can't get into it. i have a real hard time drawing from my head. with most attempts, i look at the finish and just want to wipe my ass with it. got to start using smoother paper. http://www.remtek.net/0/giantmadflip2/default/images/14/141.JPG

Screw the smoothness man, your stuff rocks as it is. I think you keep more life to it if you keep it loose. Awhile back I commented that your stuff loked like Seinkiewicz's commercial work, which is also loose liek that, but it works. You also asked about other artists that are loose like that, have you heard of Celia Calle. I believe she used to do fashion design but then went and started doing her own style of illustrative art and its very loose. Not a ton on her website but if you ever get to see one of her artbooks they are amazing. Check it out, inspiring!

go check out on ebay how much that sketchbook goes for. Shocker! Becard may say he thinks the sketches look good, but when given the ultimate test (you walking around the room) i just can't get that 5 second glance. so i guess that means i still got to work at it.
Becard-
love the finished stuff you've posted on CA and your blog. your digital stuff is getting so fucking good. are you working professionally yet? if you stuff is not good enough, i'm screwed.
Tensai-
thanks for the confidence boost. i gotta stop drawing from life and more from my head. i really like the stuff that glenn orbik puts on his website. his drawings are amazing. wish i could do that.

Damn man, still kicking ass. Hey what do you use for all this reference, alot of it is really cool. Like you just sketching while watching TV? Stuff like those boxer poses. Its that form life? What were you looking at? Just curious, cool subjects for your poses.

Very nice stuff. I like your lines and shading!
One crit I have is that you could edit your stuff a little before posting, it seems to be photographed and they look to dark, maybe you could adjust the levels and brightness/contrast so it stands out more.
cheers

feeesh-
all the drawings are from life study workshops. the boxing pieces came from a quick study workshop 1-3 minute poses.
voraz-
thanks. i'll work on the pages so they stand out more.

Nice arms!
I like the nudes. The boxers are awesome. The clothed figures are... well not as strong. To many drawing short cut maybe. But it's cool. It really make me want to hit the workshop next semester.

are you working professionally yet? if you stuff is not good enough, i'm screwed.
Are you implying that I'm not good enough ;)? NA, I have couple of stuffs going on, but no fix job. If that's what you want to know.

Cheers,

That dude with the African tribal hair cut is wearing Asian costume and smurai sword while holding an umbrella... That is so wierd... yet I really like it for some reason... Maybe you are acctually learing something from Sienkiewicz... :P

Those are some lively sketches man. Love the way you simplify the shadows. Got to agree with the more round lines comments though.

I remember some dude put he's portfolio on fire at the entrance of the Beaux art school in Paris couple years ago. But I'm not sure he felt any better...he probably should have piss on it after.

I'm not fan of the helmet guy pages. The angular breasted woman are really cool tho. There is some nice shit happening (those were fake. Right?). The cowboys are sweet. The one with the smily made me think of chuck! That's such a perfect role for him and he's mustache! To bad he's hat is levitating around he's head... and what's up with the banana ears? Nice lines dude, the cracks are looking good.

thanks becard. didn't notice that floating hat on that piece. and the banana ears... ears scare me. i'll work on them. the helmet guy was a challenge to do. not used to doing quick poses with head gear on. got to work on that shit to. at this rate i'll be doing the work crap for another four years. but by next week everyone will tell me attending them is useless, that they won't help me in the real world and shit like that. who the fuck knows. great work on your blog though, http://2monkeytale.blogspot.com/ , keep the work coming. can't get enough.
