I finally finished some joust sketches, for the thunderdome contest . remember Im not competing in thunderdome, im judging, i hope these give you some ideas of how far you can push an old sprite. i drew most of these at a cofe shop, i dont have time to paint all of them in time and i want to still make some more sketches but i wanted to show you what i got to get your juices flowing.

it looks like mixed media, all of these do. marker and pencil sketch, looks like from .. a coffee shop .. and taken into photoshop, painter and touched up .. he was drinking .. something icy ..

Although a part of me after seeing these pics wants to jab my pencil through my retina, since I too am doing Joust, I must say that they have gotten me thinking and I appreciate it Andrew! I'm extremely impressed and I WILL TURN this around and pour it into my own work! :D

to anwser some of the questions

all the images were drawn with mechanical pencils some markers, vine charcoal and white out pen. i scaned them in photoshop and tweaked a bit.

i do sleep once in a while but some inspiration came into my life and I have been on a drawing binge, I i also found a 24 hour coffe shop i can smoke inside and drink bear, dangerous combination. i havent been to bed at a resonable time for the last week.

oh and the lances are coming soon,

oh and the poly thing, yea well a do have a habit of breaking my own rules, i deal with that so much professionaly i just needed to indulge my details. got carried away. i will be leianent on that aspect of judging.


the joust universe is pretty simple, 2 good gouy two birds, one perdactyl, a lava troll, and three bad guys, the bounder the hunter and the dark lord. i will try to do a sketch of each before the deadline.

thanks agian everyone, your encouragment makes me want to draw more and sleep less, but I can hears the birds chirping and that means the suns coming up so I better get my dream on or I will go even crazier :D

i must be a brave soul.... i'm critisizing android. um the evil knight, his right hand (our left) looks inversed? kinda like his palm would be facing out instead of facing his thigh. also his knee, the right one (our left) looks to be too high up. and the player two (oh no!!! his favorite!!!! hahaha) just looks strange. like his neck is too high and he appears to have no thumb on his right (our left) hand. now i don't know if you can misproportion anatomy as long as you have the right muscles, etc.? i mean his arms look too long (good guy #2) but they appear to be anatomically correct. now i am no professional by any means and i'm just getting back into my art, so don't take my word for it. this is just my observations. also it just couldv'e been the beer :chug:

but anyway these are pretty fantastic. i love the sublet use of the birds on the armour and just the whole overall style. can't wait to see it or them painted!

honestly, did you ever think about making a compilation of your self portraits or just sketches? i think both would make a wonderful book...
sketches of skilled artists are great to look at anyway and the sheer size your self portrait project has taken on until now would make a book like that a milestone.

what kind of paper is that you have in your sketchbook? that tone is really nice.
(speaking of sketchbooks: what brand is it? i plan to switch to actual books from sketch pads soon and i am in need of just some names to look out for...)

24 hour coffee shop with smokes and beer... a dangerous but sweet combination. Seems like this sleep deprivation's working out for you too - if you can't have real dreams, you'll just have to have them on paper!
