Wow... easily the best work I have seen from you since I've been on these boards... beautiful!

I don't mind the hand size as much as the others, he's a GIANT for fricks sake...

:D

I think my favorite part is the strength of the pose, especially in his legs... just gorgeous.

I'd add something to make it clear that he's a giant. Otherwise it's looking good.

I thought i wrote a reply, but this piece basicly took my idea of you as an artist from AMAZING penciler, to AMAZING EVERYTHING. I haven't seen much else besides the last thunderdome that you've colored and this...ooo and this is just amazing man. I saved this image under my mcotie folder, under my armored warrior reference folder(which is larger than you might think...[500 images+]) and as my new desktop background.

This is seriously my favorite painting of the month.

koudos.

thanks Guys I'm glad you like him. I thought I would take the time and fix the hand size. Thanks for noticing.

I would love to add something that would say "Giant" but again; when your'e working with a certain given direction it's not always possible. I think since it is going in a book full of Giants that might help send the message. hopefully.

thnks again.

here is the updated version.

great job, i can't even tell which hand you fixed just by looking at them now but they work ;)

is this the only giant in the book that is going to be by you? Or will you have others? If there is more of this quality in the book i'm buying it no doubt.

Hehehe, do you remember an old Amiga game called "GODS" by the Bitmap Brothers? This instantly reminded me of the pic in the intro, especially the pose and the axe.

Great work man. The painting style is lovely, too. :chug:

That's really cool (pun not intended, really). I like the way the horns on the helmet curve and the diffuse light through the ice is good too.

Good god! That's it, I quit.

*throws out pens and pencils, burns all unused canvases, and starts working for my dad's law firm because I'm never going to be able to produce that kind of art*

Just great. Iti's too bad you can't use something to give somescale, a band of silhouetted warriors at his knees. Other that no criticism.

Thanks davi> I shrunk his right hand. I did a lasso selection of the right hand, really close, copy pasted on a separate level, then transformed the new level ( the new hand) and redeced the size to scale, then flattened it again and smudged and airbrushed out the evidence.

I have 14 pieces in this book unfortunately I don't have any color pieces. I just added color to this one for practice.

ceenda> i don't remember the game but i'd like to check it out if you have a scan of it.

Loga4, rimwalker, Irate Customer> thanks guys.

Swedish Chef> hey man I know it gets frustrating, but hang in there. I didn't just wake up and just whip this out. I got a toilet paper roll list, full of sacrifices to get to this point and I'm not even through with the roll. You're at one of the best schools in the world, take advantage of it!

Phalanx3D> yeah I could have but I don't want to get stuck with doing that on all of these giants I have to illustrate. I've already used that a few times. Thnks

Azulblue> thanks

Nimrod> ha ha you caught me. This giant was from some freelance stuff I'm doing. the environments stuff is another project. I didn't forget about it!

Rictus, thanks.

Wohoo I can see them now! :nana

Yeah, that's really nice! :)

Nice detail work on the armor there!

I think perhaps the horn on the right is a bit different than the left, either perspective wise, or just shaped differently(you choose which). It kinda leans more into the helmet than the one on the left, so even if he turned to face me directly, I think the one on the right would still be closer to his face than the left. Doesn't really matter too much; maybe the horns were shaped that way.

Oh - remember that since he's a giant, there would have to be giant goats around too, to get horns that size. Maybe there are though. Or maybe the horns are made out of wood or something. Either way you should keep them like they are, so I'm not sure why I'm mentioning it.... :p

Very nice piece. :)

This looks freakin great. I love the many different colors. One small question for u: Did you do this digitally and traditionally? Because I think I see some hints of color pencil, but Im not sure.

Can we see the other pieces? When is this book coming out?

OOoh.... fantastic pose, Mitch!

Those legs are great, not only in form, but colour too. It's very contrasty and inviting, complementaries. I wish you'd give some tasty colour variation to his face/head as well. Seems a bit like the pencil grey keeps your painting back a tad? If I remember correctly, I thought so about the Norse warrioress as well(?) But you're definitely on track, FFG are lucky to have you!

Did you use any reference?, because the anatomy and construction of the arms, legs, and chest is simply amazing. Plus the light and shadow on the upper body give a great sense of depth. great job.

Awesome, beautiful work, mc. I love the colors. Very inspiring for us other "young, old guys" too - can't let all these young punks constantly hog the spotlight! :)

mcotie
April 16th, 2003, 05:37 PM
thanks John P.> actually on the horns I was thinking more on the lines of horns from a White (ice) Dragon. The lesser races of the giants around 11-13 ft tall, whereas the elites are usually around 20 ft. (according to DnD monstrus Manual).

thnks Chuk!!

I.was.ink> thanks!! I started off with pencil which is what will be used in the book, I then added color digitally using PS and Painter.

which leads me to, Nordstrand, T, yes it does hold me back I really should let go of it all together. thanks.

keyth> thanks

weapon82> danke shoin

cityworker> thanks, no reference on this one.

Blackwell> lol. that's right, thanks.

Thanks guys i really appreciate all the replies on this.
